NOT SEMI PERMANENT! Does NOT wash out. You WILL be left with regrowth. I have used two hair colour removers and clarifying shampoo and it's only slightly faded. Now I have regrowth and have ruined my long, previously natural, hair. It's been 4… Read more
months. This does NOT wash out. COLOUR: Medium Brown would be more accurately described as "Bogan Red-Black" On the positive side, if you are looking for an almost black dye that's gentle on your hair this will suit your needs.
Follow-up · - I used GimmeNow Colourless Hair Colour Remover Max Effect then Decolour Hair Colour Stripper - My natural hair colour is dark brown - I patch tested first but I was focussing more on skin issues rather than to see what the colour was (I mean, you don't buy two lots of colour to patch test then colour your hair do you so you need to use the hair… Read more
Unhappy with item – This is not the first time using this brand but it is the first time using this color.. it was 6 light brown chatting Clair.. my hair had many mixed colors including grey.. I am 60. I chose this to get a overall light brown color.. it came out very dark. But my bigger issue is that it stained my skin very bad.. my sink..and my counter.. I can not get the stains out completely at all. I am very unhappy to say the least.
Doesn't cover greys. Turns them yellow/ginger instead – Although easy to apply, wash out and feel of my hair is good at the end. Product failed to do what it claims, cover grey. Instead it's turned them golden yellow/ginger. Show details
Great colour but it lasted WAY longer than advertised – I have strawberry blonde hair and I really liked the black and how it naturally faded with every wash. My hair felt soft, shiny and moisturized after. However, it's been nine months and well over 28 washes and sections of my hair are still black. Beware if you have light hair and use the 2 black shade. Show details
So so many warm tones for a cool colour – I have been using natural instincts for 18 months and the colour lasts for around 12 months or more. It’s only the end of my hair that have faded, just faded. On top of that all the lighter cooler colours such as light brown or dark blonde end up being stubborn dark ginger, not at all like the pack. I have persevered with it My hair is a very… Read more
neutral blah colour so there are NO excuses. I have now had to use a colour remover to strip it out, that has wrecked my hair but at least my hair is no longer having an identity crisis. With the red tones gone I was able to try being blonde, the only colour that looks like the pack is the the light blonde and even that is a rather insipid shade. On a positive note I chose this range as it doesn’t have the hair destroying elements that permanent colours have. My hair did not frizz and break at all however the colour remover I needed afterwards has undone all that good work.
Brown, not blond – The color on the box appears to be medium blond just as the product claims (natural instincts medium blond 8A). The outcome is very different however- a mousy brown! I’m alarmed every time I see myself in the mirror - this isn’t what I expected. I’m hoping it washes out/fades soon. It did leave my hair feeling silky and it felt gentle - no skin irritation. Amazing! Feels so luxurious – First time using the Dark Brown Natural instincts range and it was the best home colour that I have ever used. The gloves fitted perfectly (other ones usually rip) the moment I put it in my hair it felt like creamy luxuriousness. There was no horrible smell and the coverage was perfect. Highly recommended!! NOT SEMI-PERMANENT! CONTAINS HYDROGEN PEROXIDE! – This dye is not semi-permanent. Semi-permanent tints the outside of your hair only. Dyes that contain hydrogen peroxide penetrate the inner cortex of your hair. My hair is so damaged now, like straw and frizzy! There is a definite growth line. The colour lasted only 2 weeks, afterwards you are left with dry/brittle yellowish/orange damaged hair. The only way to remove it completely, is to have it chopped off! Show details
Everything Fades EXCEPT For The Last 6 Inches Of My Hair BLACK PONY TAIL – It is almost impossible to get all of this color out of your hair. When it starts fading everything fades but the ends of my hair. Now I have gray roots, then faded color & then a 6" black pony tail! I wash my hair twice a week. I am 75 yo and have been coloring my own hair for over 7 years! I am sorry I tried this product. Show details
Doesn't work on my dark hair – It basically doesn't work on my dark hair at all even it was left on my hair for an hour. Very disappointing result. Show details
I deeply regret using Clairol Natural Instincts 5G – I purchased Clairol Natural Instincts 5G Medium Golden Brown as the regular Clairol 5G that I normally would use was out of stock, my grey roots turned yellow and the rest of my hair is light brown, my hair is usually soft and shiny after I have dyed it but now it feels coarse and dry and I'm having to cover the yellow roots with Clairol powder… Read more
touch up until I can dye it again with the regular Clairol 5G. Terrible product, if I could give 0 stars I would too.
Not semipermanent! – I was extremely unhappy with this product. As others have said, it does not wash out and the haircolor was very dark and a muddy tone and left an irritated red hairline. I've used other brands before and never had a reaction like this! Show details
Colour is totally different – I chose Clairol Natural Instincts 7 Dark Blonde to cover my greys. It didn’t cover my greys and worse, it’s changed my hair colour to a very dark brown ! I had my hair lightened many years ago and really loved the colour but this product has completely ruined my hair colour. I am so upset and deeply regret buying it. From other reviews, it doesn’t… Read more
sound like it washes off at all and even if it does, I might not be able to get my lovely colour back. Clairol should look at their colour chart and product specification ; very misleading . Not only does it not give you a true colour , it gives you a colour you do not want … I definitely do not recommend anyone to use it unless you’re prepared to take a chance and risk having a new colour which you’ve not wanted ! Buyer beware !

Great - hair feels natural and soft – It's my first time colouring my hair, just to cover some greys. I've been putting it off due to hesitations & fears - but happily, it turned out great. Will definitely purchase again. The colour: my natural hair is between medium & dark brown. I chose "medium brown" dye, and very happy with this choice. The result is natural, and my bit of grey… Read more
is covered - some of it turned brown and some dark blond, but the overall effect is great and natural.
Originally I had a few concerns, but luckily they were all mitigated: 1. My hair is slightly dry due to a thyroid condition (nothing severe, though). I was worried it would break or get a "straw" texture, but luckily it seems fine. 2. I was afraid the colour would look artificial, e.g. brassy undertones, or even just a flat colour with no tones. Luckily my choice of colour turned out natural, and I still see some tones. 3. I was afraid it would wash out quickly, but it seems to hold fine even after 28 washes. Personally I'm happy it lasts, as it saves me time and money. I try to keep it longer by avoiding very hot water, chemicals and sun (naturally, being sun-smart is wise even regardless of hair dye).
I wish I could give it 0 stars – I have naturally dark ash blonde hair and had some old blonde highlights. I chose this product because I wanted a light cool brown colour all over My hair turned out nothing like the colour on the box It was initially a very warm dark brown. I’ve washed it every day for 4 weeks in hope of this colour washing out I’m losing hope that I will… Read more
ever get my natural colour back. I think it’s permanently changed my colour, I’m gutted!
My hair is now ginger/orange! I don’t understand how it can come out so different to the box image/description
This is permanent colour not 28 washes!!!! – Very surprised this product turned out to be permanent colour for both my daughter and I (she used one of the very light blonde shades) on uncoloured hair (mine was even naturally salt & pepper light grey). We both experienced full-on proper regrowth, only slight fading. The condition of our hair has been beautifully shiny and healthy (hers in… Read more
particular), with no damage, and I gave it an extra star for this alone. Both colours have been firmly on our hair now for 5 months with 2-3 washes per week. If you're considering this Brand, use with caution...I've never had this happen in 30 years of home hair colouring across multiple brands.
A different colour from what it says on the box, but I like it – My hair is 50% grey. I used Light Cool Brown 6A, and it didn't turn out light ash brown, but a medium red brown. That said, I like the colour. The condition of my hair is nice after the application. I left the solution on for 20 minutes after I had applied it, not from when I started applying it, maybe this was too long. The pamphlet didn't say it was only 20 minutes from when you start applying it. Show details
28 days later – I used this because it said it would wash out in around 28 days. Hmmm. I'm at 28 days and it's sticking to me like glue. It has only lightened ever-so-slightly. Now it isn't so black that it absorbs all light around it (seriously when first coloured it i was shocked. It was blacker than vantablack!). I have been using black hair colour for a long… Read more
time, but I've never seen a black so BLACK!
The box promised that it would wash away with no "grow line" but I'm pretty sure I'm growin' a line.
This product is absolutely intense for a non-permanant hair colour. If you're using it to see if you should go a permanent colour... don't use this. It will not easily wash away. If you want a hair colour that doesn't use ammonia and you're ready for some serious black-hole level light absorption.... go for it.
So dark – I bought 5 medium brown and that came out as serious a level 3 or 4, borderline darkest brown. Too much for me. I cracked it back out with baking soda + head n shoulders and now it is a manageable 4.5-5 in darkness. This is hectic for 28 wash product. Go lighter than you think you’ll need. A light brown is probably medium. Good quality stuff though, just beyond pigmented. Show details
