If I could give it a 0 rating, it would still be too good. I left it in slightly longer than the instructions, rinsed as directed. My greys somehow look brighter! Aside from making a huge mess when rinsing, this product did absolutely nothing. My hair has a chemical smell and thats about it. Dont bother. Show details
What garbage! I left the gel in for the time required, didn't cover any grey at all. I tried again a few weeks later and this time left the gel in for 30 minutes and it didn't cover one bit of grey. Save your money, this product does not work. It would be a great and convenient if it did work. Does Clairol not test/trial these products before putting them on the market? Show details
Not sure why the old root touch up was changed. It worked. This new root touch up product is a waste of time and money. I have used it three times and three times total disappointment and no change to my hair. Recommend not to waste your time or money purchasing. Show details

Did not work at all. I applied the gel, it seemed like a good match for my hair. I waited the correct amount of time then showered and it all just washed away. What a waste of time and money. All my greys are still visible on my centre part where I applied the product. I'm in my 30s so just starting to look for something to cover the pesky greys inbetween colours and would not recommend this at all. Show details
Not even worth 1 star. Left on for nearly an hour and still nothing, I even used their clairol colour conditioner, no change at all, grey hair still as it was not even a little coverage. negative review, rarely do I get disappointed enough to be bothered I’ve done plenty positive, but felt compelled to write this because this product & experience was a complete betrayal of trust in an entire brand & I genuinely feel scammed.

Waste of time and money – Used this product for the first time and unfortunately it was a waste of time and money used it twice just to make sure it wasn't me making a mistake but it was definitely the product, couldn't put my hand anywhere near my hair or I'd end up with dye on my hands, the dye washed out after the first wash. 10-15 minutes recommended. It made NO difference whatsoever. I would have got better results if I had rinsed my hair in "onion ring water". I can't believe the company is allowed to get away with a product that does not even get close to what it claims to do. You might as well pour the contents of the tube down the drain because the end result is the same: the grey roots remain grey. Extemely disappointed and furious. Do something about this CLAIROL. I don't like the spay on colours, they feel yuck and the spray goes everywhere, I am lucky to get more than a single application with the mascara type colours and the powder colours are OK, but again make your hair feel 'dirty' Although, this is not 100% solid coverage, it is great for blending in the grey and giving a fresher look. The bonus is it is not permanent so I am not starting from scratch growing out my natural colour. It is easy to use. It loses 1 star for the price, its on the expensive side for what it is.
Perfect for what it’s designed to do – I’m going to disagree with most people who have posted reviews and say this product is great. Since going into lockdown I decided it was time to stop colouring my hair and go natural (ie let the greys come through) and this is a godsend. Being a gel it sits on the hair instead of being absorbed like dyes so it’s also important that your shampoo doesn’t contain silicone (which most of them do) as that prevents the gel from sticking. If I was still colouring my hair to cover the greys I’d agree with others that it doesn’t do the job as well as a dye but for temporary camouflaging greys it’s perfect. So if you’re trying to completely cover greys you’re better off sticking with a permanent hair dye (the ones you have to mix yourself) but if you’re just looking to tone down greys this is a lifesaver. I agree with Sandra below and hope they don’t discontinue this product due to the bad reviews. PS – although not great at covering the wispy hairline greys I find that it covers the root greys really well - until you wash it with shampoo. Another tip if you want fuller coverage is shampoo your hair first then put it on and let it dry. I’ve been using Dark Brown.

Disappointing – Thought I was doing something wrong until I read all these reviews. Not sure what lab testing they did with this??? It simply doesn’t cover anything. So wrong of Clairol to still have this on the shelf wasting consumers money, especially as I’m guessing someone from Clairol reads these reviews and should be fixing the problem
False advertising! – This product needs to be taken off the market and Clairol charged for false advertising!! Yes it’s cheap at NZ$17.95 but you might as well pay that for a tube of water for all the good it does! They should be ashamed of themselves :( Show details

DOES NOT WORK – As the other reviews say, it definitely DOES NOT WORK! I’ve used the third and last amount of the dark brown tube on my grey roots and absolutely no change even after 30 minutes and no shampoo. I’m also only about one third grey so it’s a useless product. Thankfully I bought it on a two for one special so I guess it was free. Absolutely Useless – I’ve coloured my hair for 30 years and worked in salons so safe to say experienced with colour. As per instructions I left this in for 15 minutes, did not shampoo but used conditioner. It made no difference whatsoever! Incredible that this can even be on the market Show details
Beware ~ the tube splits at the bottom!!! – Normally, I do not post reviews. This was an impulse lazy time poor buy ~ to my horror the tube split at the bottom, spitting dye all over my carpet & to add to my whoa, zero effect as the grey hairs are still showing despite leaving it on for longer than the 10 minutes as I was desperately trying to save the carpet plus my hair appears unusually frail, lank & thin which could be due to the length of time the dye was left on my hair. Wish I had read the review first - Time waster – Left for 30min, shade was medium brown. After washing it off, noticed there was no coverage of whites at all and I have to go out, so I was depending on it. Super disappointed. The concept is promising but the delivery was very poor. Waste of time – I’ve been using the other Clairol Root Touch Up product for over 5 years and have found it to be great. The ease of the gel applicator appealed to me so I tried it instead- but it was a total waste of time and money. I left it on fir 20 minutes and it had no effect. It did not cover grey hairs at all. Don’t Buy - waste of money! – I really wanted this to work & never considered it might possibly be a dud. I paid $18.00 at a supermarket - I thought the price was a bit steep, but really need to touch up my grey roots, it was easy to apply. Left on for >20 mins - recommend time is 10 mins.
