Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHT runs flat after 3.15 hours! 360 degree Radar sensor picks up MOTHS! – Review reference: Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHT (63729 JY07/23) Purchased at Bunnings Garbutt Townsville Product imported from China by: Brunnings import export Pty Limited, Clarinda Road, Oakleigh South, Victoria. "temporarily closed", yeah, WONDER WHY! See pic below.
As you will see by the last photo below, one has MANY MANY solar sensor lights on my fence lines. Living in CRIME RAVAGED TOWNSVILLE, center of youth crime in the known UNIVERSE, my home is FORT KNOX. One knows sensor lights, and has been through many different ones before getting the mix right. I only bought this Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHT to try out, and was ultimately let down by the Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHT'S performance.
Not much one can say about these Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHTS other than DO NOT BUY! Here in Townsville we have STRONG sunlight from 5.49am till after 6pm, and the Cole & Bright MAXIMA SECURITY LIGHT only lasts for just over 3 hours, probably why the box does NOT tell consumers how long the run time is in comparison to other similar products. My cheap $37 Arlec solar powered sensor flood lights Model LVS935BK, of which one has 7, run ALL NIGHT and on cloudy days, work most of that night as well! Worth noting Arlec's have two light modes and THOSE stay on low beam CONTINUALLY till someone comes near.
Also, the Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHTS lwill only work when you UNPLUG THE SOLAR PANEL! CRAZY!
With the whizz bang Cole & Bright MAXIMA SECURITY LIGHT, moths set off the radar mechanism, and if you have insects, will more or less keep this light running ALL THE TIME! Have calculated that the Cole & Bright MAXIMA SECURITY LIGHT is on for about 2.5 hours out of the 3+ hours before it dies. There is no sensitivity control on the Cole & Bright MAXIMA SECURITY LIGHT so one can adjust for moths etc. Don't know what the people who designed these Cole & Bright MAXIMA SECURITY LIGHTS were smoking when they came up with THIS "radar" idea when the normal sensors work just fine?.
Also, what on earth possessed these people at Cole & Bright to develop a 360 degree radar sensor for something that is supposed to be mounted on a WALL?? See the pics on the box! What, they expect someone to come crashing OUT through a wall BEHIND the unit and into the yard?
I see this as a GIMMICK, a sales ploy for the gullible.
Also, NOT A GOOD IDEA buying these Cole & Bright MAXIMA SECURITY LIGHTS with their SENSOR OVERKILL if you have a bush or a tree in the yard either, the sensor being RADAR will pick up ANY MOVEMENT, not just a HUMANS BODY HEAT like the cheaper LONG LASTING units.
In keeping with my FAIR HONEST reviews, one must emphasize that there actually IS one good feature on this product, the bluetooth "LINKABLE" feature where if one light is activated, other connected lights will come on as well. THANK GOD one did not buy more than one! I did think of getting 6 or so at Bunnings when I picked this off the shelf, so LUCKY I DIDN'T!
Summing up, these Cole & Bright MAXIMA RADAR 360 SECURITY LIGHTS are nothing more than an over hyped LUMINOUS LEMON.

Don't waste your money – While the light works (for a while) after 12 months only one string of LED's illuminates. The light "on" duration is quite often too short in some situations and cannot be varied. The solar panel mounting material fails in the sun quite quickly and let's just say there are better offerings available - not at Bunnings - with better performance and lower cost. Show details
Returning to shop doesn’t work – Not great build, the adjustment screw thread was crossed ,so they’re place little nut on the inside as that didn't fit ground one side down . It’s headache trying to get it back on. Now found out it doesn’t work so returning it to Bunnings gif a refund. See if there’s a better build one while I’m there. Show details
Continuous cycling of the solar light – Mine started cycling on/off continuously even during the day, Took the back cover off and found that ants had a nest over the PCB inside. Evicted the ants, cleaned and dried the PCB and the inside if the light and it now works fine. The moisture in the nest was probably shorting parts of the circuit out. Show details
Too many false triggering leading to flat batteries – Like others report, this light is well built and very bright but the sensor falsely triggers and runs the battery flat. Interestingly it uses a microwave sensor instead of the more common PIR which gives it better coverage and makes it more sensitive to motion, faster the better. It also means it is more sensitive to rain. Adding a capacitor… Read more
(around 200nF) across C5 fixes the false triggering. However the solar panel is connected directly across the battery which may limit the life of the battery. If you want the sensor to operate during the day, such as having the light in the garage and the solar panel outside, you can remove R6, however the circuit then draws 25mA continuously which most likely will prevent the battery from being charged.
Unless you have other plans for it I'd give it a miss as it will annoy you.
Cole and Bright 2000 Lumen Security Light bought from Bunnings – This is a great light super bright 2000 Lumens except for one fatal flaw in the design of the sensor. It cant handle the rain even the slightest bit sets the sensor off which causes the light to cycle on and off continuously until the light gets dim and the battery looses charge. This will eventually kill the battery cant beleive the manufacturer… Read more
forgot to test it out in the rain. If its used under cover it will be fine the rain is what sets it off otherwise an excellent light. Im a Electronics technician so I had to modify it to suit my purpose.
Hard to decide on a rate to review – 10/10 for brightness for a solar the best I’ve had. Sensor on the other hand is crap & length of time it stays on is the worst I’ve had fix those issues & it would probably be the best value solar bright light on the market. Can’t comment on how it preforms in bad weather as we are in need of rain conditions to see & something we are desperately needing to fill dams & tanks. Show details
The light is great, the sensor is crap !! – I purchased this light at Bunnings & after I installed it I was very satisfied, until I found the batteries were flat every morning for the first couple of days ! I couldn't work out why until my neighbour complained about the light cycling on & off every 10 minutes.... EVERY NIGHT !! Obviously a sensor fault. I will return the light to Bunnings… Read more
tomorrow for a refund ! P.S. This is the second time I've had problems with solar powered security lights (different brand though) from Bunnings !!
Cycling off and on – I should have read the reviews before purchasing - as others have noted, I bought two lights and they both cycle on and off indefinitely. Obviously Bunning's are aware of the issue so I'm annoyed they are still selling them. I will be returning them tomorrow for a refund.
good light but poor sensor – Ive had the same trouble with these otherwise great lights, cycling on/off till they go flat and useless,i took them back a few times till I got a good one,now one wont charge.
Disappointed at Faulty Operation and Lack of Adjustments – I had expected a lot more from the Cole and Bright Maxima Solar light. Even on initial operation, the light switched off after twenty seconds and then stayed off for about five seconds before switching on again; even while I was moving around in front of it! Having no time adjustment is very annoying. Found that it cycled on/off at dusk; but last… Read more
night it was cycling continuously with no movement in front of it, presumably until the battery went flat. I'll try to phone the distributor today. Chances are that I will go back to Bunnings for a refund like others have done. Seems like a product with great potential, but it hasn't delivered.
P.S. Well, 'Gardman Australia' equals 'Bunnings Garden Products' (located at Bunnings Oakleigh South store.) The phone inquiry line is no good. So, I'll be going to Bunnnings Bayswater to return the light.
Waste of money – Set this up today on my carport, once night fell it kept turning on and off every minute, very disappointed with this product. I will be returning it for a refund.
The best solar light i"ve seen – for 50 bucks i thought i would give it a go. Well I'ts the best and brightest solar light I've seen, and has a great range. I mean it's as bright as a 240 volt light after a few monts it's still going stron and as bright as (even on low setting) Still amazed at the quality for 50 bucks.

Know better, choose better.
Sensor issues – Replaced it 3 times with same issue again. Light goes on and off without any movement. Returned and got refund. bunnings telling, im only 1 having issues. Bunch of liars
Faulty sensor – Like the other reviews here I consider this product has a faulty sensor and should be recalled by Bunnings. After charging, this light continually turns off and on despite there being no movement anywhere near it. Completely unfit for purpose and will be returned for refund.
Sensors seem to be defective – Having read the other views I was relieved that others had the same problem, after two attempts with the seemingly brilliant solar run security 360 radar sensor light, both have a problem at dusk the light cycles through on and off every ten seconds, it's very annoying tonite it took 20 minutes to settle and everything in site is still nothing… Read more
could possibly be setting it off. I can stand still and watch it cycle on and off, will give it another couple of nights to see, but I suspect there trying to dump faulty sensor lights that they know are defective, as I cannot find this light on any of there web pages, I probly will take it back for a refund.
Cole and not-so-bright !! – So bought these fancy new solar security lights from Bunnings. I was a little hesitant as they don't have the normal sensor on the bottom of the light that can be adjusted for light, sensitivity etc. My suspicions were confirmed when I got them home and charged them up and once night came they just cycled on and off every minute or so, extremely… Read more
annoying as they are very bright. Phoned Bunnings the next day and the chap I spoke to had no clue, just said to bring them back in. You would think with a new product like this and new technology there would be some product awareness or knowledge going on well you would be wrong. As usual Bunnings were quite happy to refund but offered no explanation as to why they were doing what they were doing. The lights may have been picking up tree movement which was never an issue with the adjustable lights. Anyway, I suspect they are rubbish and unless you have no movement (including rustling leaves) within a 10 meter diameter, they will do your head in coming on every minute.
