Is Comfortis safe to give dogs who have had an annual heartworm injection
Is Comfortis Plus tablets still effective 5 months after the expiry date? The expiry date was August 2023. Will my dog get any side effects of he is given expired Comfortis Plus tablets?

Ive been using the 18-27kg comfortis plus for my dog for years but i purchased 27-54kg one this time cause iit was cheaper. My dog is 27kg. Does it work if i cut it in half and just give half? I will ask my vet before i give it but would love to know if anyone else halves it
They vet gave my 7 month old puppy Comfortis 2 weeks ago. We have sprayed our yard and previously tried Saresto collar and put k9advantix on before the vet said to try an oral meds. We still see some fleas. What else can I do?

My vet sold me a comfortis tablet which I fed to my cat 25 days ago. I have now started seeing flea eggs again where ever he lays down. Can I give him another one every though the 30 period is not up yet?
I would say Comfortis is not working for your Cat. Be sure it's the one for cats, not dogs and the correct dose.

Yes, first of all you need to be sure it's for cats not dogs, they are 2 different recipe's. If it is for cats, then cut it in half.
The active ingredient (Spinosad) is identical in both the dog and cat version of this product. I use the dog one for my dog and both cats (it says on the bottom of the packet that it is fine to do so) Saves me buying 2 packets of identical treatment. You just have to make sure the weight is in the right range (luckily for me all three of my pets are). Might save you some money!! :)
I always split the 20-40 lb pills for my cats. The vet only had 40-60 lb pills, would it still be safe to split them except in 6 pieces instead of the 4 pieces I usually split them in??

I think the pet store gave me the wrong size comfortis for my dogs..my dogs weigh up to 8kg and the pack I was given is 9.1 to 18kg..can I cut these ones in half and will half be effective? I have opened the pack so can't take it back....

Can comfortis be cut into 4 small pieces? They are to big for my dog to swallow hole and he will not chew them. I give him all 4 pieces by putting them in mouth and rubbing his throat then he will swallow. Someone told me you are not suppose to cut them as they will not get proper dose. Thank you. Mine is for dogs 12 to 24 #
Hi Judy, I'm not quite sure but I cut mine as I have 1 small dog and one big so give my little one half a tablet then my big dog a full tablet. Seems to still do the trick and keep the flees away. Hope this answers your question
Hi Judy my dog will not take any pills of any kind so the vet said it was ok to crush the comfortis and place it in her food. I was told to be sure she took the entire pill. As far as giving them only part of a pill. Im sure the answer is no because the amount of medication may not be distributed equally. I hope this helps.

I gave my 2 6 pound yorkies comforts (160mg) since they developed a lot of fleas 2 weeks after receiving sentinel. I fed them first. About a half hour later one of the dogs vomited but I do not know which one. I did see the pill present along with his dog food in the vomit. The next day my one dog still has fleas running around his belly.
The vet said it was okay to give another comfortis dose of 160mg but to give some Pepcid first.
I'm just concerned if it was not him that vomited that I will be giving him too much
Any ideas?
Gosh, Linda, that's a tough call. I would be VERY careful about possible double doses, particularly if he was the one who vomited (which you have no way of knowing). My cat got so sick from Comfortis that she had to be taken to the vet for treatment. My other cat handled it just fine. (They are 8 lbs and 10 lbs.) I would say if you do it, watch him SUPER closely and be ready to take him in to the vet if necessary. Good luck!

Im not a vet but i do have an opinion. If you dont know which dog vomited i wouldnt give them another pill. You can use a topical flea treatment along with comfortis if you need extra help. This is what i would do. I wouldnt chance over dosing your little one. Just an opinion. Good luck
My dog, who eats everything, will not eat this pill. Is it okay to mash it until it's about coffee ground size and put it in peanut peanut butter? I'm wondering if is extended release in with case it I ground it would hit his system all at once and he would get a big overdose.

I always use peanut butter to give my dogs pills because they don't like pills, also I cut it in 2-4pices depending on the size of the pill and give it to them. I star in the morning and then the rest I give it to them during the rest of the day..

They won't catch fleas.
