Still Cool – i bought one from Suddies on sale summer 2010. its still good. cooling our 1 bedroom flat it stands by the window in our separate living room, we just leave the door open so it cools our room. the only drawback is the thermostat will eventually fail as mine 3 years later... but the water thingy mode will still work... frankly its all you need its… Read more

automatic. it will still give you the coolest it can : 17 degrees to 24 above... i was told you can change the thermostat... i didnt bother. A rating energy efficient, portable thermostat on cold setting.

Convair Supercool TRC – Living in 3 bedroom semi-detached aided by2 desk fans was able to cool, kitchen (where unit located), lounge-where my German shepherd reclined looking out the front screen door and my bedroom all at comfortable 23 deg C. It provided such a relief after 9 summers of sleeping under wet sheets or towels with just a fan blowing all night or day. Both… Read more

the lounge and kitchen windows faced west in our Elizabeth Fields home, so the arvos and evenings were the pits. But the unit worked wonderfully in cooling mode; never missed a beat. Through summer 2006,07, Jan 08: My shepherd died in Jan 18 - 08 and the air con went into storage.

Purchased the Reverse Cycle based on media advertising but what a rip off on the winter power bill and below 7deg C totally ineffectual in heating mode. Reliable, effective given cooling restraints, remote control, pre-select timer on or off, dehumidifier function Plastic exhaust hose: rather than PVC should have been an insulated reflective duct hose as used in ducted systems. To lessen heat radiating from the exhaust hose. A water pump to lift humidity condensate the dehumidifier tank to height of the unit to assist drainage from said tank when window head height is equal/greater thanuation_opted for 5L squat container to collect residue.

Very dissapointed – We purchased with portable air-conditioner as our landlord wouldn't put in an air-conditioner. It worked well for about a month then it started to leak all over the floor, we had it sent away and it came back all fixed that lasted for about another month and the same thing happened. The drainage tube would take out any excess water so therefore… Read more

our floor was always wet. It was sent away again this time replaced, We got turned it on only to have it make this horrible knocking noise. So they came and collected it yet again. only to have it fixed and returned with a huge dent in the front and marked on the side in black which we couldn't get off. We gave up and stuck it in the shed where it still sits today $999 collecting dust :(

bad warranty service, and had to have this product replaced 3 times

Good – After enduring many stinking hot summers, and being fed up with just a pedestal fan that simply did not keep me cool, I decided on something like this A/C since the owners of the place I live will NOT allow window mounted/installed A/C and it is not possible to install a ducted/split system. No regrets to date; very happy with something simple… Read more

like this baby, and I didn't want another evap. water cooler (not only do they develop leaks over time but also a clogged pump resulting in water spitting out of the rotating fan grille on the front naturally causing the unit to push out hot air as well as crap from the water leakage - Convair made those too.) - this one does not need filling with water - but it helps when not in use to empty the lower chamber since it collects water from the refrigerant during cooling - much like defrosting a fridge. Can't say I have noticed much noise either, and no service required yet. Fingers crossed. Sleek, curved white design. Cools a small room within a couple of hours. The only 'con' I can see with this unit, is the window/exhaust hose - it sometimes detaches from the brackets at either end (either the back of the unit or the extra adjustable window plate) when it gets hot - this in turn buckles and warps the window plate, but if careful, has presented so far no real problems. This accessory, is flimsy and prone to heat damage, but no perforations in the hose as yet (since December 2008 up to now). My model does not feature a heater element (just as well - the climate isn't cold enough to warrant a fan heater in this unit).

Terrible – This product doesn't work quite well in auto mode so need to select low temperature and cooling mode to get it work. The noise of fan is very high as soon as compressor automatic turns off. The service quality is very poor as no response even complain was dropped on manufacturer’s website for minor problem of loovers due to no response received… Read more

after 3 weeks of time from service centre. In general completely crap product and service. It looks good by appearance and has atutometic loover swing. It gives lot of noise when fan speed is high that nobody can bear it. It has automatic loovers sometime it does not open even motor already started. The product is not very good to cool a small bad room; the temperature does get increase soon so need to put in cooling mode with temperature less than 22 degree. This will increase electricity consumption.

Terrible – When I first moved into my current apartment, my landlord talked about getting air conditioning installed in the apartment. That was back in June of last year, the start of winter. He brought it up everytime I payed rent, and then randomly came over last saturday with this bulky hunk of junk that takes up too much living room space. But I was… Read more

pleased because it was the start of heat wave in melbourne. I switched it on happily, only to find out quickly that my apartment heated faster then this thing could cool it, even with the living room closed. So it got up to about 45 degrees.

So basically, the airconditioner only worked if I just sat right in front of it, cos the air was cool, but it didn't really cool the room down at all.

Then I heard what sounded like the motor switching off, so the thing just blew a lot of hot air in my face. Now I can only have it on for about ten minutes before the motor turns off, and hot air just blows out. So yeah, really not impressed. The cool air, when it works. that the air conditioning motor turns itself off randomly, making it a fan that blows hot air around.

OK – I purchased the Convair Supercool TRC around 2 years ago and have been happy with its performance. Found unit to be excellent cooler or heater for bed rooms or studies but any living room larger then a bedroom or study I found the unit to become less efficient. I also found that this units heating ability is reduced below zero degrees ambient… Read more

outside temperature and as a result the unit constantly defrosts which in some cases left the floor a little wet. Above zero degrees ambient temperature I found the Convair TRC to be an excellent heater and cooler with out any problems. Overall would recommend this unit for a substitute to a split system especially for rental properties but at the end of the day you can not beat a good quality installed split system air conditioner. Portable reverse cycle airconditioning (TRC Model only)without the cost of installation that can be easily installed yourself. Excellent dehumidifier. Noisy when operating even with fan on low. Only will cool or heat room approximately 20 m square. Inefficient heating ability under zero degrees and inefficent cooling ability above 35 degrees.
