My wife bought $496 dollars worth of Sri Lankan rupee. She received 60000 a 45% charge. Mid market rate was 215 rupee we received 120 rupee. I thought this company was reputable, fool me. Why should an honest hard working woman trying to change a bit of money over for her holiday have to check that they are not losing almost half of it today in Australia. I would give Fremantle Crown Exchange a 0 out of 5 if I could. I changed 1000 AUD for IDR and the rate was well under what I would have got from the bank, let alone the rate offered at the Indonesian official money exchangers. I returned to confront them about it and they advised that the rate they offered me then was in fact higher than today's rate - they're offering around 9 million IDR for 1000 AUD bearing in mind that the actual rate today is over 11 million IDR! At Crown Exchange rate, that's a loss of 200 AUD to anyone using them today. It is a blatant rip off and what is worse is that it is happening in Australia under the guise of a genuine business who are still allowed to operate. I have read many negative reviews of Crown Exchange businesses all over Australia and I would NEVER recommend anyone use them.
I visited Crown Currency on 26/02/2025 to exchange $1,708 USD and was met with blatantly dishonest practices. This kind of manipulative price switching is a clear attempt to scam customers who aren’t familiar with currency exchange rates. My daughter, who was inexperienced and just wanted to get it over with, agreed to proceed — a decision she regretted after learning how badly we were short-changed.
This wasn’t my first bad experience here. On previous visits, I’ve been able to negotiate fees down to half of the original charges, which only confirms that staff are inflating prices for personal gain.
Avoid Crown Currency at all costs. There are far more honest options out there.
Polite rip off is all I can say. No commission, no fees, seniors discount was advertised. What I got was so called Premium Service because I had the gall to approach the counter and not do the transaction online. 28% service for this privilege. Absolute theft and should be illegal. Gave me 24 php to AUD when the rate was 34 asked them to return it immediately and refused. My fault for not checking before hand but had a little more trust in a local exchange. Do not go here! Show details

had used an exchange rate of 15.08. I later found an exchange rate of 22 which means that Crown were taking a 30% markup and I lost a lot of money

I lost out on 700 Rand. DO NOT go there or any one of their outlets. You'd be much better off using someone else.

Crown Currency do not give the best rates as advertised. I asked the rate when I walked in for Euro and Pound Sterling then asked if I get a better rate as I am a Senior. Shocked at the exchange rate offered by Crown Currency Exchange, Maroochydore for NZD. Bank rate was 1.14; Travelex 1.086; and Crown 1.04. Very poor offering and track record not good.
Seniors Beware - Very poor exchange rates in Penrith store, always obtain quote first in writing or they will provide terrible exchange rates in person. In my experience was offered 20% less than other currency exchangers same Plaza complex, go elsewhere and save $$$ Show details

Horribly poor rate. I should have done my research before going, I assumed it would be a reasonable market rate. How wrong I was. I exchanged AUD for Vietnamese Dong and was left well short. Don't go to Crown! Once I was in Vietnam I realised I could use my debit master card and the exchange rate was so much better that I realised I had been totally ripped off at Crown! that good to be getting to many 5 stars. After some digging ive read many reviews that have also been tricked by their fake reviews. How can google allow this to happen? furthermore got charged $60 for exchanging, the owner even said to not come back and to just spend it all.

offered about 40% less than going rate at another money exchange 10klm up the road. Have used crown before and been really happy with their rates.. Do your homework people, I didn’t.

Horribly non competitive! Last month they offered 4.2HK$ for 1AUD and 14th April they offered 0.495Euro for 1 AUD. Just south of there they offered 4.72 and 0.532 respectively ....... and Crown look you in the eye and tell you it's the best available rate Show details
Very poor exchange rate!! This company are overcharging customers. I visited the store today to buy a small amount of Sri Lankan rupees for a gift. I was told $48 AUD buys only 5000 rupees. This is equivalent to $26 AUD. I’ve been overcharged $22. AVOID! Show details
Pacific fair shop told us was much cheaper than airport, we got 560 Fiji for $500.00 in Fiji we got 650 Fiji for $500.00 and that was including 5.5% commission and a $15.00 fee ,so Crown never again Show details
