has had the keyboard replaced 3 times in last 2years (under extended bought warranty) – terrible. we have had to replace keyboard 3 times in last 2 years, luckily under the 'extra 2 yrs warranty we purchased'. there has also been odd 'not turning' on moments as well on an off and periods where it seemed to get very hot, while charging. i think the battery is also running out a lot quicker already, item was only purchased in dec 2019.… Read more
not happy, won't be buying again, need to upgrade for yr9 next year as I am confident keyboard will fail again.
Great 2 in 1 when it worked! – Received my Dell 2 in 1 (3185) at the beginning of January and set it up. No problems finding WiFi and connecting. The next time I turned it on not only no WiFi but it was not even looking for a signal. Rang tech assist and downloaded drivers on another computer and transferred to the lap top. Hooray back in business again. Not quite. It seemed… Read more
every other time I turned the lap top on, it was not searching for WiFi like the drivers had vanished, but the next time it worked OK.
The I had a couple of episodes where everything seemed to freeze, and one where the screen was on, but not on it was grey. I just let the batteries go flat so I could restart.
After eight days I had enough and started to try and return it. This is harder than anything. They would like you to home for the courier. Hello, some of us go out and work. And they only pick up between 9 & 5 Monday to Friday.
Hopefully I will get a refund soon.
When it worked, and I mainly used it to read the paper on line, it was great but the frustration of every other time not having WiFi because it was not looking for the signal was frustrating and disappointing. I did not get the chance to use it to its full potential.
Horrible Experience – I bought this same machine with 32gb HD, no-one said "beware" that I should install any programs on ext USB. The first time it updated windows it ran out of room and ever since May it has been telling me to free up space. I put it away for 5 months, now I have spent hours on the phone and the Dell Tech has removed all updates and anything he… Read more
could find and now I have 720 mb of space! It will not even reformat itself so Dell can start again - because, you guessed it - I need to free up space. The Dell man has gone away to seek further help on what to do meanwhile he could not log my call as their system has a problem, Says it all really, fingers crossed for Friday when he is supposed to call me back!
Worst laptop and service from DELL – Initially this laptop, Dell Inspiron 3179, was good value for money but then in March 2018 (less than 11 months old) the battery died and I had it replaced after alot of painful back and forth with Dell's support team. Now in Sept 2018 the battery has died again and I'm told by Dell they won't replace it as it's out of warranty even though I had… Read more
it replaced in March, unfortunately they don't have records of the replacement as the technician did not note the battery replacement in their system. The support team told me not to expect the Dell battery for this model to last long, I'm surprised considering it was less then a year old when it died. I've used apple, acer and lenovo laptops and all their batteries lasted for years. Really disappointed in this Dell laptop and the terrible service I've received. I've learnt my lesson and I'll never invest in Dell again.
Worst – I was new here in Australia, I bought a new laptop for my assignments. In That period I borrowed a money from my friends. It hasn’t been long. But now my keypad is not working. I can’t throw it away coz it’s a new one. I don’t want to buy a new now. Show details
Take it anywhere – I am loving the Inspiron 11 (3179), purchased to replace an older Dell laptop. It runs really smooth with Windows 10, has touch screen on it's 11.6 inch screen and battery lasts for hours (6+) on light use i.e. browsing the internet. This is a 2 in 1 laptop, and the built-in speaker is surprisingly loud and crisp. It takes a short while to get… Read more
used to the smaller form factor, but certainly does not lack in performance generally.
Pros:
Fast power up
Build quality
Lightweight
Cons:
No back-lit keyboard
No CD/DVD ROM drive
Terrible! Just a rubbish – I bought it $330. First 11 month, there was no problem. But after that, storage became full and I tried clean up which didn't help. Storage cannot reduce then I seek expand storage. Dell cannot activate expand function. 30GB is too small and unable to expand is not fair! When I tried to expand, I lost windows 10. Show details
Dell Inspiron 11 – Bought the device August 2017. It functioned ok till November. I put it away until Jan when uni started. Started preparing for uni Jan 2018 and it overheated within minutes. It stopped working. Rang customer support bc they close at 8pm. Except they’re closed in my time zone. Dell continues to go downhill. if anyone can recommend a decent touchscreen 11-15 inch, I’d appreciate it. Show details
It must be upgrade – I bought it just this june with 4gb Ram + 128 SSD.. It must be upgraded since, bcos i find it runs windows 10 very smooth.. i also installed office 2016 on it. run perfectly. This small laptop ideally for mobile people to do some work on the run due to super light in weight. A bit shame about its HDD size, only 128gb. But only 329 I bought, definitely worth every penny. wrong information – took my Dell laptop in for repair in March 2017, was told it needed a new hard drive and windows reinstalled, at a cost of nearly $4oo, I said no and picked it up with a$89 service charge, laptop not being a year old I was not happy so took it to another repair shop and was told nothing was wrong with the hard drive but windows needed to be… Read more
reinstalled $123, so I said yes to this then went back to BTS asking why they had told me I needed the hard drive, I fought to get a refund but only got a small amount back, thinking they must have lied about checking the machine when they could not get the computer to loud up I think they assumed what was wrong,
OK product, poor service support – I bought a Dell Inspiron 11-inch laptop in January for use while travelling. It was reasonably priced and worked OK for most of the tasks I used it for. But when I tried to use the microSD card slot to download photos while travelling in Tasmania the card (which is tiny) slipped right inside the slot and couldn't be removed. A couple of days… Read more
later, the computer felt warm when I removed it from its protective sleeve and refused to start. I figured there was a problem with the battery so I let it run down and cool before flying home.
When I phoned Dell's Customer Support I was connected to a person with a very strong Indian accent, which I had difficulty understanding because he spoke very quickly. I wasted about an hour on the phone trying to make sense of his instructions and, although the computer started when I connected it to the mains and pressed the power button, it was very slow. I received no help with fixing the speed of the computer and the operator insisted on me supplying a photo of the microSD slot, which wouldn't have showed anything so I refused to provide it.
I took the computer to a friend with experience in fixing laptops and he was able to extract the card and fix the other problems in less than an hour.
I would advise against buying Dell products on the basis of my experience. You can waste a lot of time and end up without having problems solved when you have to deal with somebody thousands of miles away. You can't beat local support!
Very poor build quality and reliability – Bought this laptop at JB HiFi on 8-Jan-15. I was setting it up and was registering it when I noticed the keyboard was bouncing with each keystroke. Eventually 4 keys came off the keyboard! I was really surprised by this seeing such good reviews for this laptop. I bought this for my daughter's schooling (BYO device). I am not confident at all that… Read more
this laptop will last. Absolutely disappointed by this experience.
Update: The unit was replaced the next day with a new unit. 6 months later, the new unit would not turn on (even with the charger plugged in). This was fixed but three months later, some keys have stopped working completely and would not respond. It's clear that Dell had cut corners in the design, manufacture and quality control of this particular model.
Not Bad For the Price, but really can't handle Windows 8 – First things first. I upgraded the HDD to a Samsung EVO SSG 256gb. Some would say that is over kill. Personally. I find after using SSD, you can't go back. Screen size is nice. Wish it was higher resolution though, but the picture is fine for the size. Battery life, not too sure, about 4 to 5 hours. Had an issue with the mainboard and dell fixed… Read more
it onsite the day after I reported it. So the warranty is worth it. But I can't get over windows 8. I like the apps, but really don't like the metro look and no start bar. Also, don't like the why it sorts my applications. Tried to install linux on it. (That did not go down so well, so not linux compatible at this stage). Over all, I like it. And the price was right. Just added Aug 2016. As of 1 month Linux now works straight out of the box. Very happy now.

Excellant machine! – I have had this laptop for a few months now and absolutely love it! Its like an ipad, love the touch screen, keypad folds back so you can use it as an ipad, all for a bit over $500, bought it to travel Oz next year, small, compact yet has the same processor as my last Dell, only negative is that some might find the processor to be a wee bit slow, but perfect for me, cant fault it!
Macbook killer! – This is an awesome piece of design! Seriously, this is the first ever real competition for the MacBook air. This one device is a true amalgamation of a laptop and a functional tablet. The designers have really made this idea work without flaw. At this price point, it is a real threat to expensive macbooks which fall way behind in the features and… Read more
so far had no real competition. The way it seamlessly integrates various features while running windows 8.1 and all the productivity apps is commendable. Every program runs snappy and the machine has no glitch whatsoever - a first in the windows lineage in my experience! The touch sensitivity is awesome. I use this for everything - from productivity to entertainment to communication needs. Sometimes it just feels magical as it switches its roles so inconspicuously and intuitively. Well done Dell!! Jack of all trades and a master of them all! (Laptop + tablet, Win 8.1, Snappy, Superb touch screen) Nothing
