Stay clear – Terrible broke in 3 months cost $100 stay clear. Expensive waste of money… Show details
Absolute dud of a radio – Anybody know where you can buy a recharge lead for one of these not real flash Digitech AR 1721 radios. Unfortunately they aren't the standard Micro plug in. What a waste of money this radio has turned out to be. Show details
Good, but could be more robust – I have now picked up 2 of the Jaycar AR 1748 radios that have been dumped at the tip. One was full of dry joints, especially around the rf stages and the plated through connections were dry as well. After a re-soldering job on most of the connections, it works. The main tuning know was broken off as well. I repaired that with some araldite and a… Read more
shaft from an old pot and drilled out the knob to fit. The clock isn't very accurate, but it is now working. The second radio had noisy pots, which I fixed with some WD40. it also has a broken tuning shaft. Someone had tried to fix it by supa gluing a knob onto the stub, but messed it up succeeding in gluing the whole assembly together. I had to unsolder the encoder from the board to remove the rf board. Awaiting a Jaycar reply for a spare part to replace it. The power adapter is only a simple transformer and rectifier, I wonder weather some have been imported as 120 volt units ? This would account for the high voltage that destroyed the radio above. The FM performance is only average, and short wave is OK, but not in the league of a Barlow Wadley XCR 30, that I carried around Australia on buses and trains and never missed a beat.
Digitech AR-1945 Disappointing landfill designed to fail – The radio initially worked reasonably well on 6 Duracell D cells but temperamentally at times until the first battery change just outside of warranty. I then decided to try the supplied battery adapters with new Energizer rechargeable batteries. The radio seemed to work okay until I switched on the mains power adapter supplied with the radio. radio behaved totally erratically and none of the normal functions would work any longer. I tested the claimed 9 Volt power adapter it was in fact 14 Volts. So the rubbish equipment supplied with this radio is designed to ensure its early death. This is something that Consumer Affairs should look into.
Digitech AR 1945 : World Multi Band Radio AM, FM,SW,LW,Air, & SSB Receiver. Sold by Jaycar – Utter piece of Garbage just gone into the bin..wasted $300 plus $50 to reputable Electronic Repairers, cannot be fixed. Report: AC/DC Adapter supplied by Digitech Output 9V, FAULTY Real Output 13V "cooked" the Radio Processors. Jaycar state, Just out of Warranty & "we don't fix what we sell, take it to Electronic Repairer, which I did @$50 cost to… Read more
find out this Radio with Faulty AC/DC Adapter is inferior Chinese garbage. I see these still being sold on Ebay for approx $300...Google searches show many problems with this Radio, and many end up in the bin....be warned.
Digitech AM/FM World Band receiver - Great – This is an excellent unit and value for money Compact pleasing appearance. Easy to use controls and button console. Long battery life (2 AAs). Good graphic screen. Very good sound and excellent range. Time keeping and sleep functions accurate.
Inferior Quality – Extremely disappointed in the quality and response from area manager when phoned - given the radio returned was under warranty, with receipt and original packaging. DIGITECH RADIO $174 Panel at rear covering battery - very frail clips snap, therefore batteries fall out making radio totally unusable. Clearly a manufacturing fault, very cheaply… Read more
made, CHINA, need I say more. This is the second one, same model we have purchased with exactly the same problem, clips snap. Extremely poor customer service. We will never purchase another DIGITECH product for obvious reasons. You are a very short sighted company, always remember, word of mouth has the final say.
Great for travellers and as a backup radio for power outages ! – I bought one of these transistor/portable radios a few years ago at Jaycar in Frankston. It was mainly bought as a radio for popping in a suitcase or backpack and something for when the power is interrupted. It has now travelled more of the Pacific than any other item I own (except my passport !) and still functions perfectly and is seriously… Read more
good on batteries as long as you use decent alkaline ones and check them occasionally for leaks.
AM reception on it is superb however FM is just okay and not brilliant when compared to an old 80s Japanese Toshiba which works but is intermittent (Digitech was purchased to replace it after having been faithful since 1982)
Basically as an everyday radio to drag around the house it`s okay or on holidays but the FM band is ordinary and you have to move the antenna constantly to overcome the "hiss" or multipathing distortion (I don`t live far from the FM radio / TV towers on Mount Dandenong in Melbourne )
Most Digitech stuff I have owned has proven to be reliable and this is no exception. Came with a little vinyl carry case and it can take headphones which will give you FM stereo once the headphones are connected.
For what they cost I`ve given it a solid 4 out of 5 and would recommend it for travellers or just as a standby.
Pretty good – works well, battery life good BUT its weak point is the manual fine tune knob. Snapped off after very little use.. There is only a thin plastic coupling to rotary switch. Can still be used after opening it and removing knob by using an allen key....I have dropped it a couple of times and still works well. works well, easy to program I think it could be more sensitive as a "World Band Receiver". a small pocket unit I have has better range in FM
