VERY POWERFUL – I read other reviews showing its noise issue but this does not bother me at all. Rather, it operates better than I expected and I am very happy with this unit :D It is very muggy day (over 38C) but it keeps the room about 20m2 nice and cooool :) Show details · 1
Good unit - would recomnmend – This unit cools well, it can be a bit noisy but I think that's basically all stand alone units like this. The noise it the air! Also, make sure you fix the outlet pipe securely to the window...or ensure it cannot jump out. Once I figured this out it was great. I would recommend this unit. You need aircon in Perth!! Absolutely Awful Design – The heat outlet pipe and fittings appear to have been designed by a blind wombat. The pipe has too much tension and the fittings repeatedly fall off resulting in a room hotter than before. I will never buy another product from this company. I am sleeping on the loungeroom floor tonight, because the damned pipe fell off again.
Don't bother unless you want to cool a tiny bedroom – I live in SE Qld, and this unit does not even touch on heat in our small lounge room. At 42 degree temperatures, in our closed lounge room, it did absolutely nothing. On a mildly warm day (32 degrees) I danced with delight with the temperature gauge showed that it cooled to 29 degrees. It didn't last long but hey, at least my glorified fan had… Read more
done SOMETHING... The air coming from the unit is cold-ish, but it doesn't reach across the room. You basically have to be sitting on top of the unit to get cool.
Another problem was the leaking. This unit leaks water constantly, and the little emergency drain at the back is so close to the ground I struggled to find anything to put underneath it.
The hose split after two uses, and customer service told us it wasn't under warranty, so we had to replace this ourselves.
The unit is LOUD. Really impractical to use in the lounge room if you want to watch TV or talk to your family.
One positive is that is does work in a tiny bedroom (the bedroom fits a double ensemble against the wall without much walking room - it is SMALL). But for the price we paid, this is barely a 'pro'.
I've had window box units more powerful than this, and I'll be replacing this hunk of junk with a box unit as soon as someone will buy it. I'm considering paying someone to take it, because I think it's the only way I'm going to get rid of it.
Does NOT cool like advertised, does NOT cool an 'average lounge room'.
Never Buy A Dimplex if you want after sales service – Don't buy Dimplex , my new portable air conditioner has been in "repair" since 06/02/2014 , despite repeated emails, phones calls and promises from both Dimplex complaints and DACAPs their repair agent in Perth I have still yet to receive my machine back. It was under warranty for the repair and was only going to take a week. And now Dimplex are… Read more
not even returning my emails. So much for getting the machine back for the high march heat, I will be lucky to get it back before next summer comes When it was working it cooled the room down and it was a very hot room Broke after about 10 hours of use, would not switch on, repair to date has taken nearly 6 months and no end in sight
Not perfect, but still pretty good – This unit will cool a room quite well. The exhaust which gets all the hot air it generates outside is a bit fiddly and it can disconnect quite easily sending all that hot air into your room and making the aircon all but useless. All air conditioners produce water and this one is no exception. I took the plug that holds the water in the unit out… Read more
and basically put a dog bowl under it to catch the water. It works quite well, the dog drinks the water so I never have to empty it. That said, because the plug is so low on the machine I had to lift it a few inches off the floor to accommodate the bowl (and you'll need to do the same for all but the smallest bowls).
It's quite heavy and noisy, but I only use it in one room and only on the hottest of days so it's really a case of swings and roundabouts. Cools a medium sized room efficiently. quite heavy, position of water escape valve, exhaust pipe can come loose quite easily, window bracket for exhaust pipe doesn't really work without a little modification.
Great and bad – My review with this product is that yes keeps room cold but if u have it on longer than 5 hours it starts to spit cold water Nd now is leaking out if the bottom and flooding my carpet more hassle the. It's worth grrrrrrr so I don't like the flooding and water spitting other it's ok Keeps room cold certain time Leaks and spits water out air bit
Wonderful, until after 2 years it started leaking – Couldn't live without it in the summertime. It makes noise, of course, but considering how effective it is in cooling down a room I would barely even consider this a con. I don't have trouble sleeping when it is turned on, but people with super-sensitive hearing definitely would. It cools the room down quite quickly, and the dehumidifying function… Read more
also works well.
I have recently had trouble with the unit leaking water at the front. I've had it for nearly 2 years and it is still under warranty, but I'm hoping to troubleshoot the problem myself as I don't have the means to transport it to get it fixed. Still, 23 months without a hiccup is pretty good. And it's still useable, it's just not ideal that it leaves water on the floor. Efficient, works well, great for renting After 23 months it has started leaking
Not perfect, but very reliable and impressive – I'm going to buck the trend here and post a positive review. I've owned my unit for 6 years now, and it's been a bloody good little model for the price. At first I had a little trouble sleeping with the unit on - especially when the clutch cut the compressor out - a big "clunk" that normally would wake us up. But now it's not an issue and we both… Read more
sleep soundly with it on. Around 30 minutes before bed we will turn it on and it's down to temperature when we get there.
I've never had to empty the water out, as any condensation is evaporated and sent out the window via the snorkel. Never had any issues with wet carpet either, although I do make sure the bung is in good condition and snug. One of my few gripes is that the sleep mode doesn't nuke the LED display like later Dimplex models - the temperature isn't the issue but there's a little flashing animation down the bottom that appears pointless apart from lighting the room up like a mini strobe.
Apart from that it's sound - will chill even when the ambient temperature is 40C (unlike the smaller 2.6kW unit that seems to run for the hills in a heatwave). You'll be disappointed trying to cool a large living room down but an insulated bedroom is no drama for it. Reliable. Robust. No fuss. Zero water leakage. Not too bad on electricity. Average noise level. Evaporative snorkel. The clutch kicking out on the compressor is loud. Can buy cheaper models now. Sleep mode doesn't kill the LEDs.
Stylish but loud – as far as portables go any is never going to be quiet but this one is a little louder than more expensive ones out there, very good looking product and in the correct size room dose a good job to keep the temp down tho will take a long time for 18deg on a hot 30deg day, if you pick one up cheap ( deleted model now) you should be happy with the… Read more
trade off of a little noise for this model. if noise is going to be an issue don't bother with any portable and get a split system! very good looking, very compact slow at cooling on a very hot day but will do it after an hr
OK – its ok. just a bit annoyed that the floor keeps getting wet. i have to put a water absorbed mat underneath it. cools the room down. leaks alot of water!
Excellent – I have the 3.5KW Reverse cycle GDC-AC12RCW and the picture (as of 16/11/09) on productreview is looks like an older version. The one I bought from retravision is more stylish (see Dimplex werbsite). I am a very satisified customer, but this is only day one, and whether it lives up to its promise remains to be seem. * Cools very well and fast, my… Read more
small bedroom is freezing cold.* Window kit fits my vertical side-to-side sliding window perfectly.* Very modern and stylish* Very easy to use with concise LCD display* Almost all heat is released through exhaust, I was shocked and the amount of hot air from my room being expelled by this air con.* Nice build quality of the unit, the plastic is more solid than a Convair I saw along side it in Retravision * Water plug close to ground, that is is hard to drain* Remote has no LCD Display, but not really a con because having a LCD on control leads to durability issues. And TV remote controls don't hace LCD so why should this one?
Terrible – It's more like a really expensive and noisy fan, it's even worth than the convair evaporative fan I had. Won't buy the same brand again. Stylish 'look' It doesn't cool the room like it says. On the box, the maximum cooling area is 20m2. I put it in a 15m2 room for three hours, the temperature dropped from 34 to 32, and it stayed on 32 forever.

Know better, choose better.
Bad – Not cracked up to what it claims or should be. Very dissappointing. Takes a long time to cool a room eg 3 hours toreduce from 24c to 19c. Portable Very noisy, does cool room size quoted.Big exhaust pipe falls off back and won't go back on. Still waiting on parts after 4 weeks from new
Terrible – I will never buy any Dimplex brand ever again, returning this garbage and swapping it over for a better Air-con! And I Hope Jackie from Technical support looses her job! I liked the design and size of this air-con Leaks water constantly Exhaust pipe is cheap and flimsy Doesn't cool the room down anywhere as well as other brandsDimplex Technical support are rude and unhelpful
Good – In the recent Melbourne 43 degree heat, this machine was quite good; cooling a 4x5 bedroom, It got the temp down to 26deg- in a 1940's double brick house (an oven in summer)It didn't have the punch to get the temp much lower in that extreme heat, but I feel this is reasonable. Friends of mine have purchased cheaper air cons, and they put out much… Read more
more noise when the cooling compressor is turning on and off (kind of a real churning noise like a fridge)- the only noise coming from the Dimplex really is airflow, but this is still quite audible. I didn't think the hose is at all of low quality as per the other review. $700 was a bit of a high price 600-650 would be more like it; It did the job, let me sleep, and kept my pets comfortable. stylish small size, very very light weight, easy to operate, cools quite well It would be a little more pleasant if the compressor was smoother in shutting down when reaching its set temperature, it tends to shudder the unit, however its quite minor, and I've seen it before on other brands- takes away from the refinement.
Excellent – overall that is well designed product. It does the cooling job for a 15cm2 room for freaking heat wave hot summer. Stylish and easy to install. It really cool the room. But I have Pricey and Expensive. $899 from Harvey Norman, if they could reduce the price, that will be fantastic
Bad – It definatly makes the summer more bearable but you cant hear the TV over the unit unless you turn it right up, which if your in a unit isnt the best thing to do. Overall i have learnt a valuble lesson and will never buy a portible unit again. Looks good. Doesnt cool the room down past 24 at best. My room is approx 17sqm you would think that… Read more
this unit would cool much better. In the bed room it cools to around 23 which is about the same size. My be because it only has one window. NOISE, NOISE, NOISE and more NOISE.
OK – Aside from the above comments, this product does cool the room down to a comfortable temperature, but it does not appear to have the ability to cool the room down to an arctic freeze like some fixed-wall units. Overall this unit has managed to make my summer nights more bearable, albeit you may need to invest in good noise-cancelling headphones if… Read more
you are sensitive to motorised sounds. It's stylish, looks good in any room. Good for portability. I've got the reverse cycle version of this in black and can only comment on the cooling. It takes too long to cool the room down (my room is approx 20 sq m) and it appears that the reading never drops below 23 degrees according to the display. It's also very noisy! The window fitting was also too short, I had to use reflective insulation to make up the shortfall to seal the space that wasn't sealed in the window..
