Rinnai have a hard plastic connector that locks the exhaust pipe in place; wonderful easy to connect design. Dimplex take note!! 2) dehumidifier - there is not collection point to empty out excess water, which means you have to come up with your own external hose AND collection solution in order to drain the excess water. When you're in QLD and it's 90% humidity this is entirely impractical. As another reviewer said - it would have cost the company next to nothing to at least include a drainage hose which you could then drain the water into an ice cream container I guess, but seriously who wants to do that??? What were you thinking Dimplex???
The airconditioner works fine but the lack of attachments is annoying – The unit seems to work ok, but the exhaust vent is just thin cheap plastic with no rim or edge and keeps falling out of the back of the unit. There are two drain ports but no hose for the water to drain out. These are two really CHEAP items that would have made all the difference for us when we got the unit home. to go back into town to the hard ware to buy a hose and extra strength tape (in our case that was a 2 hour return trip) and then tape the exhaust vent to the back of the unit to stop it from falling out and heat the hose and fit it to stop the water from dripping over the floor. CHEAP AND UNNECESSARY EXCLUSION for two pieces of plastic that would have added a few cents to the price it was disappointing that this is what they decided to skimp on.

some research, I knew Dimplex was a good brand, and I knew I would need a reasonable output. We managed to get this unit at a VERY reasonable price, and I am so happy with the product. It is less noisy than a similar one I tried, it’s easy to function, and offers the swing option which a lot of portable a/c units don’t, which means my son and I don’t have to argue about the position of the machine haha. But most importantly - it cools the room significantly! We went from competing with the local sauna, to a pleasant air conditioned comfortable area we can rest and put our feet up in no time at all.
The unit is compact, easy to move around, comes with a remote and options for dehumidifying as well as the ability to heat and cool, as well as three fan functions and excellent temperature range. We had it running for many hours and all it did was increase the coolness of the room. There is a setting where you can have it manage the temp for you too, while sleep, which would save on power as it keeps it within 1-2 degrees of your desired temp.
I am one very happy (and cool) customer!

to empty the water or relocate which negates the mobile feature. The instruction says to keep the exhaust tube straight.This is only possible with floor level windows or doors.This would not be possible with regular level windows. This unit iwhilst now running well is barely adequate.

Definitely effective, with a couple of caveats – I bought one of these last year (2020) after doing a fair bit of research online. It’s for my bedroom (approx 3m x 8m). no secure “click” type connections). I eventually got it to sit the way I want, but I try not to move the machine in case the hose becomes dislodged. I have a competitor machine in another room and its exhaust hose fittings are excellent. -The noise. To be fair, I’m a light sleeper, however I placed the unit at the other end of the room and the noise from the heat exchanger fan is still quite loud and disruptive for me. As such, I try to cool the room before going to bed and then turn it off.
Basically, the unit does do a good job of cooling a room for sure, but the hose connections need improvement and I’d suggest it’s used for deep sleepers, or situations where the noticeable noise from the machine wouldn’t be bothersome.
They don't make them like they used to – Purchased this unit last week after deciding to replace a 20 year old Dimplex portable aircon that still works very well but is a bit bigger and uglier than the more modern units. 10,000BTU's. This unit, although rated at higher output struggles to even slightly cool the same room after several hours of operation. Extremely disappointed. So much so that I'm putting the old unit back into that room and trying to sell this unit for what ever I can get for it. Huge waste of money.

looking machine that is indeed heavy. Our 1800x1200 sash windows are slightly too high for the outlet pipe to be horizontal (recommended) so I raised it with some wood I had lying around. Thankfully the fairly short power lead just reached the power point. I glued the window kit onto the aluminium window frame with silicone. The instructions are light on detail but I'm good at this kind of thing. The machine takes up a fair chunk of room directly in front of the window but this is for our child's cot room so no problem there.
Reviews of portable a/c indicate that noise is a common complaint. I read that this machine was rated at 51dB so I was pretty confident, only to find when I opened the box, a sticker declaring 70dB! That had me worried. Further research revealed that even Dimplex brochures are self contradictory. We waited a nervous, recommended 24 hours, before powering up.
The noise level is absolutely fine, it pumps a formidable amount of cold air into the room and out the door if so desired. It also pumps a lot of hot air out of the window.
Sure, it's not as quiet as a split system or as efficient as a window unit but it's relatively cheap, simple to install, we can still open or lock our windows and it's a huge improvement on a stinking hot room.
