Not Compatible with Android 12 – As of December 2021, please dont buy the DJI tello yet. Their app is not compatible with Android 12. While it does work great indoors, its not as good as out doors. A gust of wind can shift it and it would not hover steady. Takes great pictures only when there is sufficient light indoors. Any artificial lighting will be grainy. Its a good as… Read more

a toy, or a starter drone to give you some experience in flying a drone before buying a "real drone".

Videos taken are choppy and skips for some reason and its a known issue.

Drone for Dummies – Let's get this out of the way straight up. This is the easiest, most user friendly, bullett-proof entry level drone I have seen/used. It is sold as an entry level drone, but goes way beyond that with its features. Packaging. WOW! This is how it should be done. Minimal, recyclable and re-useable. I will be storing mine in its box to start. It is… Read more

perfect.

With your DJI Ryze Tello drone, you get one battery, a usb charging lead and some safety and manual stuff underneath. There are also spare propellers in there.

You can (I did) buy extra batteries, and a dedicated charger for up to 3 batteries charging at a time. I bought 2 extra batteries, so have just under 40in total fly time.

The software I had already downloaded. It's available for IOS and Android, and works really well. The drone is controlled using your phone, with controls overlaid on the video, which is fed via wifi (on board the drone), providing 720p video quality. It is an entry level drone, so no 4k or 1080p and the camera is fixed. It provides a more than acceptable photo. Video is good, but you want good light. The sunnier, the better.

Controlling the drone is simple, from the start. The app provides clear instructions, on screen, so learning the controls is easy. Take off is as simple as press a button 9nscreen, then swipe. The drone rises to just under 6ft in elevation and hovers. Even in a light to moderate breeze, the drone stays, exactly where it stopped. But wait, don't you need GPS for that? Usually Yes, but the DJI Ryze Tello has two sensors on the bottom. These maintain its position.

With a few tentative presses of the controls, the drone smoothly and slowly moves in the direction desired. By default, the software is set to slow controls. Once you have mastered the drone, you can switch it to high and the drone is a mighty little beast. And you can easily switch it back, so the younger kids can have a supervised fly, with little risk of damage.

Within the app there are controls to do flips, spins and 360° rotations. Also by default, there is an alert at 20% battery, so you have ample time to return your drone, then press two buttons on screen to softly land.

If you so desire, you can throw and go, literally turn on, link to phone/ipad then throw it and the drone fires up and hovers. Be aware, you only have about 5 secs from selecting and throwing, so careful.

With realistic expectations and a little practice, this is a great little drone for aerial images, the drone will achieve up to 30m.

A good 12-13 minutes flight per battery and clear images, at a budget friendly price. This is the drone for your early teen young adult or even older hobbiests. It is a simple to fly and control drone, that let's you step in, not jump from a great height.

I would highly recommend this drone.

Perfect starter drone – Purchased this in Dec 2018 and lost it in Dec 2019. Well worth the Harvey Norman $120 discount price tag. Having done the indoor mini helicopter/drone thing for a few years I thought I’d give a go. I quickly realised that I’d purchased a small flying camera rather than a swift moving rc vehicle. The drone’s underneath sensors means that it… Read more

hovers without control input perfectly and the 15 minute flight time gives you plenty of time to get used to the orientation of flying it. Switch it to Sport mode and it moves around your yard pretty quickly but if you feel you are losing control just let go of the controls and it does that perfect hover. Given the price and the diminutive size of this drone be prepared for some limitations. The main one of these is that you need almost no wind to fly it if you are to avoid the on screen wind warning at least. At worst one slightly windy day at a farm I took it up high to get a shot looking back at me. Ignoring the wind warnings and WiFi signal getting out of range the screen just went blank and I had already lost sight of it. I realised that it must have been blown up high out of WiFi control so I started heading in that direction. I could hear it flying still somewhere and was relieved to find it hovering a metre from the ground next to a tree about 100m away from where I had started. Normal control range is only 30m max.The camera is also only 5MP but does provide a surprisingly clear image. Video can be disjointed and jerky limited by the WiFi connection and I didn’t bother much with it. It was good to get results straight to the phone though and the app made it quick and easy to get airborne although the controls felt a little imprecise.

Fun Little Toy Drone with Okay Camera – Great little drone to zip around the house taking some funny shots and videos of my cats. It's quite small, stable and eays to fly, suitable to fly indoors and taking cool selfies. Outdoor fly is possible in absolute no wind days, otherwise it will just be blown away by the wind considering it's less than 90g. Photo quality is surprisingly good in bright condition, video is a little jumpy for some reason.
