Esky Chilla 26L Hard Cooler

Useful size for day tripping, weekending. Small footprint fits nicely into tight space in the car – RRP $45 its a standard esky. Nothing fancy. The effectiveness of coolers come down to how you use and pack them. If you put a single bag of ice in there and open and close it all day expect to have cold water in your esky within about 8hrs. You need to pack all the free space with block ice for them to hold temperature for a decent amount of time.

I tested this one for a full day. 4kgs frozen food plus fresh food in the top and available space packed with cld bricks. Held consistently around fridge temps all day and the block ice only partially melted. About as good as you will get from a chilly bin.

I like the size of this one. Perfect for day tripping and weekending. It's tall rather than long so fits in the smaller spaces in the car. Completely full it weighs around 20kgs which is about the limit for one person to lift comfortably. I like the snap lock hinged lid, no fiddling about with a stupid lock. It does not have a tap in the bottom though for drainage.
