If you are looking for a VPN avoid Express VPN. I have used it for years but recently they came up with a new version. I installed it, wouldn't connect & after uninstalling it my computer crashed with all my data on it. After getting the PC fixed I installed the VPN again. Now it connects 50% of the time, the other 50% it just doesn't work. Not worth it. STAY AWAY.
I subscribed expressvpn on 1/27/2026. I found that it didn’t work in China so I cancelled it on 1/28/2026. Please see the attached picture. On the top of left, there is a sentence stating that your subscription has been cancelled. One month later, I was charged and can’t get my money back although they have 30days money back guarantee.
I have been using ExpressVPN for a few years now. I have encountered the worst customer service when it comes to renewal. I received an email offering a 25% discount if I renewed before 18 August 2026, which I did, only to realize that I was charged the full amount. I requested a refund, and customer service advised that someone would look into… Read more
the issue. After a couple of days, I followed up on the progress and was told that they would not be honoring the discount. This appears to be false advertising by ExpressVPN.

AVOID Scamming Fraudelent expressvpn – If I could I would rate expressvpn as -10 I have been a loyal subscriber to expressvpn for a very long time. In early 2023 I was starting to have some serious inconvenient problems, which could not be solved. Always had to check IP address after PC start-up. Blocked access to my Gmail account using Chrome. Blocked access to websites using my… Read more
default browser Mozilla Firefox. I did a lot of searching to find an alternative to ExpressVPN [Name Removed] owns 98.5% of Kape Technologies. The reason they declare is for security and safety for their subscribers. expressvpn requires their subscribers names, email address and bank account details. expressvpn has increased their prices to cover advertising and bribe costs for good reviews on VPN review websites and by YouTube uploaders I tried NordVPN and cancelled after 3 days.
I searched for Alternatives and found MullvadVPN. Here is a link to their website. https://mullvad.net/en https://mullvad.net/en/servers Their priority is fierce protection and security for their subscribers. Without any doubt they have extreme Integrity and Transparency. 5 Euro's a month no discount for 12 months or 30 days free if you refer a friend and no free 12 months if you write a good review. I signed up for 12 months and my subscription will expire in 14 days and I have already decided to sign up for another 24 months. They don't have as many servers compared to expressvpn or nordvpn, but they have more than enough servers for me. There a lot of configurations and I believe they have better protection by far compared to other VPN providers.
Here is a quote from a reddit website for VPN's that work in China. "The current consensus for working VPNs seems to be Astrill VPN, Mullvad VPN, and LetsVPN. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, PrivateInternetAccess (PIA), and Surfshark WILL NOT RELIABLY WORK (if at all) in China, regardless of what their advertising or support tells you." Here is another link from reddit about expressvpn. https://www.reddit.com/r/Express_VPN/comments/l9ypfm/expressvpn_is_very_bad_and_very_irresponsible_to/ I have uploaded a MP4 video to show the extreme speed when different Mullvad servers are selected.
Disappointed in client service and product – Disappointed. Signed up 23 Dec 24. Streaming via an app to overseas worked for a few weeks then app blocked saying service is not available in my region. After contacting the help desk and running several tests they suggested that they had exhausted the tests and I should try to access later. Not good enough especially as they advertise this… Read more
particular streaming service is accessible. It clearly is not. It also kept cutting out with a message saying there was something wrong with internet traffic. It’s expensive especially when the one streaming service I wanted to use is no longer working.
Disgrace and they are doing illegal practices – They are crooks really. They upped the prices without telling me and the cost of $99US was $153AU but decided to add another $30AU without telling me and when I called them out on it they claimed it cost more to do business yet they were offering for new customers $6.67US a month for 12 months with a bonus 3 months so after a few days after… Read more
cancelling them and getting my money back I decided to take them up on that good offer which should have been about $120AU after conversion and it was $153AU again so looked at their site and after seconds of me going on their deal the deal had changed to $8.32US and that is totally illegal to do things like that. Been with them for 9 years and to do that to customers is a dogs act.
Now I see I only get 12 months and not the bonus 3 months. Bad luck for Express VPN as I recorded the transaction and will start posting it on their facebook page and edit out my credit card details to alert everyone they add costs during your transaction the crooks.
They used to give people a tax invoice to show we have paid but now they don't do that for some weird reason. Reason likely to be they add costs and best not to give that to the customer as they may want a refund.
I am attaching a photo of their deal and now its not that deal seconds after I paid for it at the new higher price.
I was looking at NordVPN which is $80AU per year for the first 2 years and now regret not going with them.

Value for money – Once the subscription has been set up (several passwords / key) it becomes extremely easy to replicate on multiple devices. It's only been 48 hours, but I am impresssed that ExpressVPN does not slow down browsing speed-and may even increase it.. Switch the VPN on or off in a second if you need to. A useful feature, as occasionally a site may be a… Read more
little slower to load or blocks a VPN. Express VPN provides extensive user information and an optional NewsLetter to keep up to date on Privacy matters. In my view an authentic VPN service that does the job well. Highly recommended and great value - as one subscription covers all devices.
Incredibly good customer service! – Apart from a seriously good App/Solution the guys/girls at ExpressVPN have an incredibly good customer service in place! Each time you contact them via chat or customer support system they get onto it and immediately get either an action or solution in place. In case of actions they do (unlike many other companies) keep sending updates. I wish every company was as customer focussed as ExpressVPN!
Excellent performance, but expensive – I've used Express VPN for several years, and found it to work faultlessly, with very good download speeds and capacity to use sites such as the BBC and its iPlayer. It has always been rated highly on tech review sites, which invariably also describe it as expensive, and I've no reason to disagree. Recently, I decided to cancel the subscription, as… Read more
the company announced an increase in the already high fee charged, making one year of Express even more expensive than two years with another very reputable company. Unlike some critics, I had no trouble disabling auto-renewal, with cancellation in Paypal as a back-up. In any case, the subscription came to an end and I have received only one invitation to renew from Express VPN. Some of the criticism of Express VPN here seems unwarranted. I beieve it's a reputable and reliable VPN service, but others are too, and much cheaper.
Negative reviews
ExpressVPN has been nothing but excuses and delays. I’ve been contacting them every day for almost a month about my refund, which they already agreed to, but every time it’s a different excuse. This situation has been causing me a lot of anxiety and stress, and I’ve honestly never felt this bad dealing with customer service before. I’m extremely disappointed and I wouldn’t recommend them.
This company is the absolute worst. They asked you to do an update so you do it and then you spend the next two hours trying to log back in. They send you around and around in circles. You change your password, that doesn’t work they send you a code, it times out over and over again. It gives you 10 seconds to put a code in and in that 10 seconds… Read more
you have to flick between two different apps. I will never subscribe to express VPN again. They are truly diabolical.
Has been ripping us off since Feb 2023… when on trip away. Cancelled at the time, or thought we did. Bit lax on checking credit card statements and the evil [Content Removed] have been charging us $25 a month since, with no email receipts or renewal notices. Burn in hell you pieces of excrement!

I have been a user for quite some time for expressVPN which is a convenience service for me rather than a necessity. I never received a renewal notification and when I went to log it immediately sent 3 emails telling me it was expired. Now I cannot log in and the site will not allow me to renew, despite taking payment for it. There is no way to… Read more
contact them other than the chat and all they say is "someone from the billing team will reach out" which never happens. It is now week 2 and there is still nothing from them.
I subscribed on a trip to Japan. It was like going back to the dial-up ages. Streaming video was atrocious. Nothing worked "first time" and nothing worked consistently. Needed support to get Kayo functioning and the solutions were ridiculously complex for a product this is supposed to operate "seamlessly". Really annoying to see glowing reviews from so-called tech experts when reality is a really poor experience.
These guys are hucksters ... we tried a "Free Trial" a few of years ago but cancelled when it didn't work. We find we were recently charged $188 for nothing and $157 for nothing in 2023 (didn't notice until now!) ... these seem to be random charges they generate, I guess, when they think they can get away with it. Go to Reddit for confirmation .... TrustPilot scores are rubbish
Scammers – Absolute scam. Paid for a subscription and they are still saying I am not subscribed. Sent activation code and proof of payment to their support and they just disconnected.
Awful, just plain awful all round – Used it overseas and it was shocking. Would work for a little while then the sites I was using found out I was overseas. Contacted support, they said there was a known issue and that it would be a while before it was fixed. Now twice in the last week their app has crashed on my laptop, had to uninstall and reinstall it. That is a pain in the backside and their clunky awful website makes it hard to download for existing subscribers.
Always turn off auto renew – Predatory. Its insane that a "security" product doesn't let you remove your card details or delete your account without going through their glacial support process.
Worst thing ever – Don’t bother signing up. It’s a scam ! I have been messaging about a server that hasn’t been working for months and I keep on being told the issue is being resolved. Don’t bother . Total waste of money
Fraud warning!!!!!!!!! – The setup was fairly poor so I decided to unsubscribe within the 30 days. Not sure that I got my refund but I found now months later that they’ve started deducting automatically from my account. After very clearly unsubscribing in writing. This is fraudulent and disgusting. Do not use this service.
adversarial design and a poor product – predatory practices - I've cancelled twice and still keep getting charged. Navigating to the sign in portal and finding where to end the subscription is deliberately difficult. Another business of the rot economy, featuring adversarial design. Using the service I also could see I had a DNS leak - don't simply trust the IP obfuscation.

False Claims – Travelled to the USA recently & decided to sign up to this shonky company as they claim on their website that I could use KAYO sports platform via their app. Not to be - when I asked for help 3 times, not a single reply other than "we are working on it" Ripped off.
Don't. Simply don't – At first it looks like it works so I signed up for 1 year. Then it keeps disconnecting to the point that you feel stressful, annoying and rage. Stay away if you plan to use them for Vietnam VPN
Biggest scam – I signed up for the free trial and cancelled it within the first 10 minutes as they don't offer proxy. Then a month later they took $20 AUD from my account so I turned off auto renew. Every month I get charged a different amount around $20 . Then email them and turn it off again. It's been 5 months now ($100) and I can't stop it. I'm blocking them through my bank now. Also I get no replies to any emails. It's definitely a scam.
- +1
Terrible – Dont use, you cant even connect to the internet in most places and even when the customer service team reaches out to help, there suggestions just make it worse. The screen shots I attached are even with the customer service rep trying to help. At the end of all of it, they asked me to download a beta version of the app?
Keep charging me despite turning off auto renewal – Terrible commercial practive they still charged me despite cancelling auto renewal had to contact them to get refunded
Reliable VPN, but no business ethics – I have used Express VPN for several years and have found them to be generally reliable in the service that they provide. However recently I had to change my credit card due to a fraudulent transaction. I did not update my account with Express VPN. I then received notification that they had resolved the issue and had charged my new credit card.… Read more
Note I did not provide this card number nor authorise them to debit it. I also did not receive a notification 30 days prior to the expiry of the service to give me the opportunity to cancel the service as it has become very expensive. It took several emails to their support to obtain an answer as to how they obtained my new credit card number, including one very condescending and flippant reply of basically check your emails. I have cancelled this service unfortunately they have charged me for a year which I do not expect they will refund. The cancellation process was not straight forward with you having to press a button several times before it is finally accepted, even after you think it has been cancelled. All up a good service ruined by poor business practices. I will not be recommending this company to anyone.
Wish I could say better things! – The service itself is great, no doubt. Just be careful you don't continue paying for the service unkowingly, as Express VPN do not send you a tax invoice/notification of continuation of service at any time unless you cancel right away. I was unknowingly paying for this for months, thinking i had purchased just 1 month while travelling. They would… Read more
not refund even though I'm not sure legally you can charge someone every 30 days without notification. Disappointing.
Biggest scammers – I wish I read those articles before. Do not believe all those sponsored bull.. about how great they are in Australia. They promised 30 days, they charge you within seconds but after few days of trying to use that service - impossible. I have 250MBs internet at home (with brand new router from tp-link Archer ax72pro with wi-fi 6 and vpn ready)try… Read more
to connect through them and speed going down to 4-6MBps anywhere in the world. When you try to contact (chat with them) only the solutions they offer is to buying the preloaded router from express vpn. When I tried to cancel my service after 12 days of trying to find solution, they told me to wait for refund up to 10 working days. Guys wish me luck and I hope I will see my money back, but I think those kind of companies should be banned here in Australia as the biggest scammers with promises which are never happen. Good luck to anybody who is happy with them.
