Hi does the catcher bag come off or do you just scoop out the cuttings when it lies flat?

Hi Flymo H40 wheels and cutting blade not turning. What could be the issue.

Lianne M.

The wheels on my new Flymo H40 are not turning when I try to push it forward (away from the roller), they are only turning pulling it towards me (towards the roller). What am I doing wrong?

Im in exactly the same predicament Lianne, got me buggerd!

Maybe the cogs on the inside of the wheels are on the wrong sides. Try swapping them over. One is black and one is white. These are what turn the wheels/blades. Just don’t lose the little metal pin that sits in the gap as this turns the cog. Good luck

I just got a secondhand H40. Is the sharpening blade supposed to be straight or have a lip at one of the ends?

My fly is a wonderful investment after many years, but suddenly the one wheel refuses to turn forwards. I have cleaned it, but want to take the outer portion of the wheels of to look inside to see what the problem is but cannot get the plastic outer part off. How do I do that without breaking it, please?

I need to know the answer to this problem too. How do I get a wheel off? Please explain in detail. Please.

Bect

There is a tiny little gap around the centre circle cap. Place a small screwdriver and lift to pop it off. Once you get that off there will be a little pin which you need to place a screwdriver at the top of the loop and tap on the handle of screwdriver to push it up and off. The rest is pretty straight forward. Just do one wheel at a time though. Good luck. Hope I Helped

How tro sharpen blades

Bect

Blades should self sharpen. Use a metal file and push forward across the edge. You want to see shiny metal again across the edge of the blade this is easy to follow if they are a bit rusty as you can see the correct angle of the file to the blade and just keep turning the blade as you go. Do one blade at a time and use a piece of wood or similar to wedge between blades to stop it turning freely. Hope this helps

I must be doing something wrong, I bought a H40 second hand but it's almost new, hardly been used !!! It's simply not cutting, it just glides over the grass, it's on the lowest setting, Iv'e never used one before so I don't know what's going on, but it's simply not cutting !!

Is the rotating blade touching the cutting plate as it spins, as it needs to to get a cut happening. That also is how it self sharpens. Adjustment is via the two thumb screws on the top that move the plate up or down. Do both sides evenly.

Thanks Wokka, Thats exactly what was wrong, Your answer is correct! I finally worked it out, it's working fine now, Thanks Again for your reply..Cheers mate.

Hi borrowed my friends flymo h40 whist she is away blades won’t turn have sprayed cylinder that holds blades with W40 but to no avail, any help?

May need height adjusted, cutter blades could be jammed against base plate!

How do you backlap the blades on the H40? The reel shaft is slightly larger the 1/2" so you can't use a power drill. Most other brand push mowers are 1/2" so it's possible.

I have a replacement roller for my H40 push mower but can't see how to dissasemble the bracket in order to fit the new roller onto the two lugs it runs on, any suggestions???

1 of the wheels is siezed up & wont turn in spite of liberal spray lubricant application. Any ideas? Many thanks. David

Hi David,

I had the same problem and it's probably due to rust inside the wheel. It was still under the 12 month warranty so the repairer got it to work and that was the reason he gave me. Best to store mower in dry place after use.

Hi

I have had my Flymo H40 for a year, and this summer I am having trouble pushing it in certain areas of my lawn. It gets stuck. Other areas are fine and it works well. I need to know which areas need oiling and cleaning and where to spray WD40 and if the blade height needs adjusting? Thanks

frecs

Hi Margie - I've also begun having a few probs pushing Flymo H40 in some areas but I think it is due to uneven ground movement. Cannot really advise about oiling (check booklet) or cleaning apart from general brushing away clippings. This mower certainly collects grass in crevasses around wheels and lower handle parts;-( which can only be poked or hosed out. Only been using mower 3 months (carrying it carefully so handles stay attached;-) and compared to several similar mowers I've owned it is flimsy but... bottom line after using it twice weekly for 2+ hours each time generally it cuts well.

Margie
Margie

Hi,

Thank you for replying, I will give it a good clean and try some WD40, mine was flimsy until my daughter got to it with a spanner and elbow grease and the handles are solidly in place now.

Kind regards

Margie

HI Margie, Another reason it gets stuck could be because the insides have rust. I had the same problem and got it repaired under warranty and the repairer told me that rust was the problem. The Flymo should be kept indoors in a dry area to prevent rusting.

The boss just purchased a Flymo H40 Push Mower - I've put it together but no have two springs left over and of course the blades don't turn - anyone have any idea where the springs go ??? Thanks

Ramani

Sorry, Nellieb, my Flymo didn't come with separate springs. There were only two things to assemble. The handles and the roller. I hope somebody else will be able to help you address this problem.

Thanks for trying Ramani - the blades don't turn either so I think the springs must have something to do with that mmmmmmm!

Hi! I just purchased a Flymo and when assembling it, I found that the handles that you insert into the mower come out easily, does this happen when mowing or have I assembled it incorrectly? I am a girl!

Ramani
Ramani

Hi Margie, I have not had any trouble with the handles since I bought my Flymo. They have never come out. It took a bit of a struggle to squeeze the second prong in, if I remember right. It is possible that you have not assembled it correctly. I am sorry I can't be of any further help.

PS. I am also female though no longer a girl. ;)

Hi Ramani,

Thank you, I will keep trying - I am no longer a girl either - perhaps female would have been better :-)

Should the blades on my H40 actually touch the cutting plate? I presume is necessary for self-sharpening, but the scraping sounds terrible.

Greg Psinas
Greg Psinas

Yes they should barely make contact. There are two adjusters on either end of the blade holder ( spring loaded). If you somewhat "center" the rotary blades then slowly move you want just a minimal contact. I normally had more but it hinders the cutting capability it seemed.

Russ
Russ

Should touch it but not scrape too tightly. If it's making a lot of noise it's probably too tight :)

Why does flymo not replace push mower when a plastic part snaps after only 4 mows? It only offers repairs and who knows how long that will take. The competitive mower offers replacement.

Russ
Russ

You should ask the people who sold you the mower. The Flymo is a cheap mower, for me it has been a good choice. There are better and more expensive mowers.

How do i remove wheels from my Flymo H40 push lawn mower?

Scott7392

Hi Ernie, Iv'e never had to remove a wheel. May I suggest you try customer care 1300804213

Russ
Russ

Lever off the side cover, then find and remove the cotter pin, then slide the wheel off. Usually all you have to do is pop the side cover to replace worn gears etc. Removing the wheel is unusual/

Mine is just skidding over the grass as if blades are blunt. Had it for three and half years. Should I get them sharpened?

greenonion
greenonion

The plastic pinion may be slipping on the plastic wheel cog. You can try taking off the wheels and adding more washers to force the pinion harder onto the too flexible wheel. The blades are also probably dull because they are actually sharpeners not true blades. You will find the base plate to be sharp. These are design faults in the full contact "self sharpening" Husqvarna machine. I do not think it is worth the expense to try and sharpen the blades. Get an AL-KO HM 38 non contact cylinder mower to avoid these issues and still use a hand push cylinder/reel mower.

Russ
Russ

There are blade adjusters on each side to adjust the cutting blades to the cutting plate (also called a sharpening plate). If you adjust it so the blades are closer to the cutting plate it will probably fix your problem. Don't make them too tight. Grass should fly from the blades equally across their width, if anything more in the middle but not more on one side than the other. The blades self sharpen by rubbing on the cutting plate. I had to adjust mine recently a quarter of a turn on each side.
