Pilling as commented here, but comfortable – I purchased the 2.5 seater Amelie, along with the 6 seater Aspect modular at the same time, from Freedom. Will agree with everybody on here who has mentioned that the couch has had a considerable amount of pilling. I’ve used one of those machines, along with a razor and fingers, didn’t fix the problem and it continued to pill. A comfortable… Read more
couch all things aside, absolute shame about the fabric. Modular purchased at same time had its own issues, instead of pilling the back cushions lost their foam density and it looked like it had been used for 10 years in just a couple of years. Seating area also gave way as was quite firm and now it feels quite soft and makes getting up a bit difficult for my elderly parents.
Wouldn’t purchase a couch from Freedom in future, as beautiful as they look and feel in store, once home you’ve done your money within a couple of years.
Nick Scali – My corner lounge suite arrived in mid January 2020. Six weeks later I noticed that all the seats were pilling, I submitted a complaint on their website plus left a message on their answering machine and didn’t here back from them. I called customers services on the 21st March and explained my concerns to [name removed]. She suggested I sent though… Read more
some photos. I tried taking very close up photos but it looks poor and you will be able to get a better view with the naked eye. Although there is a lot of pulling going on the photo doesn’t do much. I called the next day [name removed] suggested I buy one of those pilling machines not a good enough solution to a suite that cost $3000 cash. Beware of these SHARKS
Unhappy Freedom customer never again – I brought the Amelie loungesuite chaise from Freedom Furniture in september 2019 and it arrived October 2019 and since owning this which is only a few months. I have to say I am very disappointed. The sofa in the show room was alot softer and appeared more comfortable. I have contacted freedom and advised them of this issue they state that it… Read more
takes abit of time for the couch to soften. I would say that there has been no improvement. Now I find the fabric piling which I think is not acceptable. I was advised that the fabric does not come under the warranty which I think is unacceptable. In reading the reviews I see I am not alone.
I am very unhappy with this loungesuite it has not met my expectations and certainly compared to the showroom. Is not at all what I expected. I intend pursuing this in the New Year and would expect that there should be some resolution ie partial refund replacement something?
Not even 1 star - poor quality fabric, terrible construction – I've had two of these sofas for 18 months - both the 2 and 3 seater. It took about 3 months for the fabric to start looking cheap and nasty. Then at about 12 months, the internal construction on one of them gave way. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement - I feel absolutely duped, and honestly embarrassed by the way these things look now. … Read more
Seeing the other reviews here, this is an issue that Freedom certainly know about, but are clearly not concerned about. I see they are continuing to sell these awful sofas. Referring people to buy a pilling machine is not customer service, it's a failure to take responsibility for a flawed product.
FWIW - our sofas are used about as much as any family sofa would be used, and for the same purpose - sitting. We are average sized people, so construction should not have been an issue either.
Honestly, they are just terrible couches - if you're in the market, look elsewhere.
Amelie Sofa - Freedom – We bought this lounge just over a year ago now and regret it. I contacted the customer service centre mid last year as the pilling on the sofa was overwhelming! To the point that guest that came to visit us thought we bought this sofa second hand due to the poor quality and appearance. The customer service team requested I buy the piling… Read more
machine from their store, which we did and it hardly made a difference, it actually made the pilling larger. For a sofa that is just over a year old the sofa looks weathered, and for the amount we paid I'm disappointed with Freedom and currently wanting a resolution.
I'm currently going back and forth with Freedom regarding this poorly made sofa.
Terrible pilling and appalling service – We purchased this Amilie lounge suite and ottoman in July 2016. A few months after, it developed bad pilling which has made the material look shabby and more like a 5 year old suite, not 1 year. I contacted the Palmerston North branch who were initially helpful, however when we were passed up to their customer service department in Auckland, we… Read more
have had nothing but poor service.
I have read other customers have had a similar issue with pilling and were offered a de-pilling machine, but for a $4,000 lounge suite, I felt we should have at least been made aware of the problem before purchasing. After I contacted customer service, it has taken 8 weeks for them to review the problem. I've been messed around and fobbed off so many times, it seems they have a total disregard for the issues we have, and they couldn't care less.
Overall, this sofa is not worth anywhere near the price. Do not buy this if you don't want to mess around with de-pilling, and if anything goes wrong, Freedom will leave you on your own.
Comfortable but so smelly!! – We bought freedom sofas 16years ago - made in Australia, sturdy and with premium foam. They were amazing, and lasted 3 kids. They deteriorated to the point we had to replace them. So we bought the Amelie in a 2 for 1 sale. We were never going to pay full price but figured this was a great deal. The sofa itself is comfortable, but immediately upon… Read more
delivery we noticed a very strong chemical smell coming from the sofa. So we aired the room for days on end, days turned into weeks etc. I even vacuumed the seats to try and get it out. A freedom upholsterer told me to put them in the sun, which I have done for day after day after day and the cushions have improved but the covers haven't. Care instruction warn you not to wash the covers so I can't even try and get the smell out that way. The fabric quality is terrible, it's already pulling and you can see stretch marks in t where people have been siting - this is a sofa we have only had for 6weeks! And for half that time we didn't even use it cos I couldn't bear the smell. So in 3-5years when I expect these to be ready for the tip I will not be buying new freedom sofas. I will pay more and get Australian made.
Fabric pills – I ordered and waited 13 weeks for two Amelie 3 seater sofas. Immediately the fabric started pilling. I read on the freedom website this is normal and to use a depilling machine and I rang customer support who said I needed to do the same. They said I'd need to depill them once or twice til the fabric settles down and they wouldn't send a person… Read more
out to look at the couches til I had done this. I find this objectionable as I've never experienced pilling on any other sofa (freedom or otherwise) but I spent an hour depilling today and they do look better but how long will they stay that way and will this fabric stand the test of time. These sofas were $1800 each. Very disappointed. Also I didn't realise the seat cushions are sewn in, my fault for not checking I guess, I would prefer separate cushions. Anyways if you would prefer not to deal with pilling fabric steer clear of this sofa.
Added Dec 17: My couches are about 18months old, although there are still pills they are not still developing on the parts I have depilled a few times. Have to be really careful with velcro (kids shoes) on this fabric too it seems to really stick and you can see where its kind of scuffed the fabric (depilling seems to help get rid of it).
Good quality, comfortable sofa – I buy a new lounge once a decade, so my sofa shopping decisions are around quality, sturdiness, comfort and classic styling. After a weekend long trawl through every shop in our local Homemaker Centre, I settled on the Amelie modular. I bought a 2.5 seat modular with terminal, a 2.5 seat standalone sofa, and two ottomans. One lounge was smoke york… Read more
and the other coal york.
The sales person we dealt with at Preston Freedom (Victoria) was friendly, patient and helpful. When we ordered, we discovered that there would be a 13-14 week wait for delivery, and this seems to be a routine delivery timeframe for new sofas. The delivery did arrive as planned, pre-assembled and the delivery guys removed all the packaging and took it away with them too. The couches smelt extremely toxic for the first few weeks. I aired the ottomans outside (in the sun which apparently helps), but the sofas had to air via open windows and the exhaust fan. Quite unpleasant.
I've had the sofas for nearly 5 months now and - initial stench aside - they're great. Very comfortable. The fabric has withstood the daily onslaught of two young children, and hasn't showed up the shedding hair of our dogs. The sofa we use the most has started pilling a little, and we keep on top of it with a lint shaver. I wasn't a huge fan of the wooden legs, but in our home setting they are unimposing and blend in with the wooden floor. The 2.5 seater we use as our TV couch. It's super comfy and fits two adults and two young children easily, or one adult laying down without bent knees. Often my children just sprawl themselves across the ottoman.
We're happy with our purchase.
