Tyre pressure Sensor – In My Great WallSteed the tyre pressure sensor light on the dash has been on for a while, is there a way that I can have it reset or even isolated. And thinking of having a tow bar installed so I can purchase a caravan. (My question is what weight can I legally tow with it) Show details

DPF problems – Everything but one thing is great. I've had it for 4 years and only one problem and that is the DPF. If I do no short trips, there is no problem. BUT, If I do lots of short trips, I always need to do do the DPF manually. Twice, the DPF warning light has come on while I was travelling on a 100km road. (I live in a small town in the country) … Read more

This is really really dangerous and the federal government needs to do something about this.

I went from 100 km/hr down to 20 km/hr is a few seconds.

I did the manual DPF and all was fine.

But being forced to go only 20 km/hr in a 100 km zone is wrong in my opinion.

So, from this one safety issue alone, I wouldn't buy this car again, even though it is pretty good in my opinion.

In fact, I think cars which force you to go from 100 km/hr to 20 km/hr must be band.

Very reliable and a great diesel 4x4 UTE – I bought my STEED 4x4 duel cab ute in 2019 and has approx. 65000Kms on the clock. The GW steed has performed really well over the few years with only a few problems to mention. It has mainly been used for highway or general road use but i have also taken it offroad on mild 4x4 tracks and it has performed well. The worst problem ive had recently… Read more

has been, a cheap plastic type radiator type hose, located at the top/rear of the engine, has failed twice in 6mnths. The pipe is poorly designed which is a plastic based pipe and is not the usual radiator type hose. A plastic hose on a hot engine doesnt end well. The hose has rubber grommets/seals on either end which have split causing leaks and the plastic has also split due to the heat. After finding that GWM dont have an alterantive or a better designed hose, i have found a multi use, flexable type radiator hose from the (superpcheap) store which i have shortened/cut to fit.

I have also fitted a throttle controller and an oil catch can which has greatly improved the performance by reducing alot of the engine lag.

The road clearance height was a problem with 4x4 driving, until i raised the tortion bars which gives it a bit of lift.

My Steed 5 Excape – I got my Steed 5E 2.4 brand new in 2019. The Steed 5E is soft on steering, low noise in cabin, perfect ECS and easy to use avionics. I use it both on and off road and so far no problems with this car. I have not repaired anything apart from normal annual service. I use it for all my farm errands and daily friend to escort me wherever. I have… Read more

looked after it very well and it has served me well too. Keeping the car clean all the time and more so after off road operation from the farm keeps this thing up to date and good. Servicing it on time in accordance with the supplied maintenance schedule. So far I have no regrets with this car and would well recommend to anyone who needs a new double cab for doing things and family rides.

Was great until I needed it fixed – Bought in 2017 brand new. Unfortunately got into a minor accident 2021, the car that was involved got a small dent yet it smashed the entire front of Ute so goes to show how weak the material of the car is. Not only that, market value significantly dropped after 4yrs and deemed a totalled loss basically because there are literally no parts. When the car was in good condition, the aircon literally finished in 2020 after 3 yrs Show details

More positive than expected – Purchased new in 2017. No major issues, No breakdowns. Mechanically reliable as at 70,000k/5yrs and it's very easy to DIY service/maintainence. Used mostly for long trips & high speed highway use it is very economical with cruising at 100km/h in 2H/RWD. Has achieved 900km+ to a tank but the average is 820km to approximate 65L. The ute has… Read more

surprisingly good equipment, very comfortable interior and features that stands out from the others double the price.

Highway/Road noise and ride quality are a bit sub-par and it feels like a small truck from the late 90's. Suspension technology (Torsion bar and Leaf springs from pre WWII era) which is rugged and reliable but will break your spine and rattle teeth everytime you hit a pebble but it is capable offroad. Start/Stop city driving is cumbersom due to turbo lag and constant gear changing to keep in revs.

This is a great value and reliable Ute in my opinion and you do get more than you pay for. Best suited to highway driving or agricultural farm use (not start/stop city traffic) Very capable off road in 4L/AWD mode. Comfortable interior to compensate for bone jarring suspension and body roll.

The Steed is a reliable, old school work Ute with some nice luxury interior finishes. It's a mixed bag when the interior hints a high end luxury sedan but the exterior and drive/handling feels 90's small truck.

The Steed should not (and was never intended) be compared to a new Ranger, Hilux, DMax etc... which often tip $55000 with options. The Steeds purpose was to give those on a budget or used car buyers a lower cost NEW ute which is reliable albeit a 20 year old Izuzu chassis design with a few bits of extra tech and luxury bolstered on for appeal. You get what you pay for and it's quite fair.

It's a good ute and has a purpose, GWM have done what the Japanese and Koreans did 30 years ago - constant quality and improvement.

Positive: Interior comforts, fuel efficiency, 1Tonne payload, reliability, offroad capable.

Negative: Engine response/power, road noise, and handling/suspension.

This is a workin' class small truck, and for whatever reason it gives me a smile knowing it was a good deal and has been reliable. It's been a good family vehicle, load hauler and camper.

CHEAP DUAL CAB UTE YOUR WARRANTY IS USELESS – Well I'm back to complain about my great wall steed, if you want anything covered by the warranty you will be sorry you even asked, at 9,000 kilometres my front carpet was wearing through, now at 20,000 kilometres its worn out with holes right to the floorboards, the car is not miss treated and vacuumed regularly, its a 2020 model so the klms that… Read more

have been put on it are minimal, contacting the service centre at 9000klms did me know good nor did bringing it to their attention again at 20000klm service, told to contact gwm myself, did that and no go, told its normal wear and tear, wth its a problem from 9000klms and now its my problem, so much for their warranty ay,just on this issue alone would stop me from purchasing anymore gwm vehicles, anything to not fix issues that are obviously from defective material, wear and tear, leaves it open not to fix anything that moves, first gwm vehicle and will be my last, and all because the Chinese owned brand dont want to loose any money

Not the clunker you may fear, quite good – Purchased the 2.0 diesel 2wd Dual Cab only a few days ago, but that's on par with a professional reviewer no ? So what's bad about it ? That's the info everyone is looking for on a Great Wall. First thing you notice is that it is light on acceleration and the steering is very light also. You have no feel of the front wheels, so the first drive… Read more

is pretty cautious, something you have to get used to, but you do. Not that big a deal in the scope of things. It's pretty gutless off the line, seems low on torque too. But on that I'm instantly glad I got the diesel as its quite a big car, and I'd prefer that over the petrol.

Next odd thing you notice is the indicator makes an odd tone and seems out of time even as it clicks. And in a 2020 car we get no screen ? Really ? But that is about all I'd say that is bad about it. The rest is pretty good. In fact the stereo is actually very good, easy to set up bluetooth too.

Now, on the power issue. I've owned and am a big fan of V8 engines and 1000cc motorcycles. So I know about speed and power. But that's not why I'm buying this. Its not going to win you drags at the lights or give you that satisfying feeling of get up and go, but for this price who cares ? Its still ok. The roads are a police state these days so all joy of motoring is over anyway.

Im buying this for value, and for a double cab ute diesel nothing comes close. I got mine new second hand (450km) for $20K. That's cheap motoring for the car you're getting. A Thailand made you're looking at $35 Triton - $50k. I got a bit lucky there but I think they're worth the $24K they ask new or $26 for the 4x4. They've reduced the price a bit and upped the warranty, a good move which makes it more enticing.

The diesel really isn't too bad. Its actually nice and quiet and smooth, and gets along at 110 plus with absolute ease, kills it, excellent for highway driving, a real mile muncher, like the V8s were. No vibrations, low rev smooth rider vibe. The six speed manual is a good asset. I think its 2100 revs at 110 kmhr. Fuel economy is good.

It really is a very comfortable ride on the highway. The feel is very long wheel base like, smooth. Nice suspension. And the cabin is quiet as well, no loud tyre noise. Genuine comfortable quality ride.

The doors shut very solidly, like a German car, it feels quite right. Underneath the bonnet the engine looks nice with space in there to get at. It has all the mod cons like parking sensor, heated electronic seats that move up and down, auto wipers, tyre pressure sensors, Cant complain about the features at all. The interior is completely acceptable. I was surprised.

So look, its not that shonky rattle thin boxy thing you might fear. Its actually quite a nice car. I thought it was worth a punt for the price. If anything goes wrong I've got a lot of room to move before I get in Thailand ute territory. 5 year warranty, I mean why not?

Daggy appearance wise ? No, not really. Once I got used to it I think it sits very well, and we sold a classic car before this purchase so we're coming from high standards.

Might put some better and wider wheels at some stage, because if you do they actually look pretty good judging from a few pictures I saw with black wheels. And if performance is preferred, you can get extractors put on them apparently for good results, and sound, and I've also read about a chip you can put in it which definitely gives it more get up and go.

But overall, very happy with the purchase and cheap motoring. Will report on longevity.

Unredeemable Crap – If it's true that you get what you pay for, then hopefully this POS was free. Had the misfortune of driving one of these at work, albeit with a few kms on the clock. It's impossible to get comfortable in the driver's seat, wheel is too low and too far. Noise is horrendous, from everywhere, engine clanks, gearbox whines, and everything rattles.… Read more

Steering is lose, and mostly by guesswork, as at TDC there is no feel and the car wanders. Turbo-Diesel engine is completely torqueless until around 2,500rpm, then suddenly takes off. Practically impossible to select 3rd gear. For First, you're in the passengers lap, for Fifth, its hard against your leg, but venture anywhere in between and its pot-luck.

4x2 petrol dual cab – Very good so far as others have said, the not so good, light steering, turning circle not great, gearbox little bit noisy, but other than that we love it great to drive, getting better performance as its getting more klms on it for $20.000 I don't see why you wouldn't buy one will update as we get more klms on it. Show details

2018/19 Great Wall Steed Dual Cab Test Drive ...... Coooool – OK, before l begin writing my review of the 2019 Great Wall Steed Dual Cab 4 X 2 petrol engine, let me say this firstly .........Yes it's Chinese and yes it comes from China ...... If you can get yourself over that one fact, read on ... If not, it's your loss. Great Wall has been producing dual cab utes originally based significantly on 2003 2004… Read more

2005 Holden/Isuzu Rodeo twin can utes. Do you need me to tell you that again .... I don't think so. Gone is that fuel hungry horrible 3.5 V6 engine that even Holden dumped in 2005 for the Commodore engine. In its place now in Great Wall form, is a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder petrol engine which is mated to a 5 speed .manual transmission. Is it the most powerful engine in the world ...hell no, but it works, and it works well. My son has a 2011 Great Wall V240 K2. The more like a Holden Rodeo version with the 2.4 L Mitsubishi petrol engine. The Steed as it is now known is a finely updated and far more appealing version of my son's car. My daughter test drove one yesterday and she is more than happy to trade in my 2010 Ford FG XR50 on it. She drove it and loved it. Yes she has her manual license and drives an auto daily, but would easily shift into this. See your dealer, why spend more for less, the Chinese are catching up very quickly in quality, looks and ownability.

Don't believe me, GO LOOK FOR YOUR SELF.

Currently at $19,990 for everything you see on the road here in Victoria, is hardly anything to scoff at.

Needs more power! – The ute itself is great. And many more features then previously offered, But with the same, underpowered engine. It's fine if you don't want to tow or go for a serious 4x4. But the engine needs a larger size option available. If there was a 2.8 TDi or even better, 3.2TDi, I would definately upgrade to it.  Show details
