Cost a lot of money and really wanted it to be good – I purchased the Wool Quilt - The Snuggler 700GSM Super King after reading reviews. Persevered for 8 weeks, but this was not as warm as expected and I still required a warm blanket. The quilt itself was heavy. But this made the combined weight of quilt and blanket very heavy. Which I could not stand the weight on my legs. I spent a lot of money so really wanted it to be good, but sadly it wasn’t to be. Show details

Stressful Quilt – Quilt doesn’t fit with any of king size quilt cover available on the market. It’s always moves leaving empty spaces on the edges and doesn’t stays stills. It feels like you have queen size quilt inside your king size quilt cover. Put me under distress. I have other quilts from other company with the same material and price range and never have this problem. My other quilts stay fluffy and full in all four edges inside it’s quilt covers. Show details

Excellent quilt for the cold Canberra winter – This is a beautiful quilt and really does enfold your body beautifully. My other woollen n quilt was like a board by comparison. This is a fantastic product and Australian to boot. Show details

The best doona I’ve ever had – I purchased this doona after reading reviews and I can honestly say it has exceeded expectations. I am always cold but this is absolutely amazing. Really warm, snuggly and pretty light too. You can even choose between machine washable and dry clean which was nice to have that option. Would 100% recommend Show details

Absolute perfection – It’s very hard to buy the right wool density for a doona from reading a review because reviewers do not (1) talk about the climate they live in (2) scale how cold they are as a person (3) talk about their experience with a range of doona GSMs I will try to my best to tackle these three issues to give you more context about why I love this… Read more

700GSM doona and when I use it.

I live in Melbourne and an old 1890s house that is cold. The house is great in summer time because when you walk inside – it is nice and cool. But in winter, this house is very cold. I used to live in modern apartments before this house and they were so well insulated that I never used to hate winter. Now I really hate it because the cold is more noticetable.

I have a reputation for being a cold person. Everyone in the office has a running joke about me being cold. I keep a wrap at work, and also have a spare throw rug to sit on my lap which I use sometimes. Yes I can get very cold. You know how some people can sit on a long haul flight and not get cold from the air conditioning? That’s not me. I am the person who puts the blanket on quite early.

Now I will try and create a cold scale where

2 to 3 = people who wear shorts in Melbourne winter 5 to 6 = people who wear jeans, one layer top and a winter jacket in Melbourne winter 8 to 9 = people like me, who wear two merino wool tops, fleece lined leggings under jeans, and a winter jacket.

Two years ago I walked into Adairs and bought the Minijumbuk Thermal Wool which contains 50GSM of wool. The customer attendant cautioned that what I was buying was a winter only doona. When I tried it, the doona was not thick enough for me and I would still put two fleece blankets on top.

The Halcyon Dreams Pure Opulence 700GSM is the only doona that has satisfied my winter needs, and is truly the a doona that I would only ever use during winter. It has made me incredibly happy and has made winters bearable. Bear in mind I use a quilted doona cover to give the doona extra weight (a tip given to me by Adairs).

This is not a doona I would use in autumn or spring. I will go back to the 500GSM for those seasons. Also, I wish I had discovered Halycon before buying the Minijumbuk because Halycon prices are so much better.

In summary:

If you are a super cold person (8 to 9 in the scale) and live in a cold house. Then buy the Halcyon 700GSM.

If you are a super cold person and live in a modern well-insulated apartment then consider the Halcyon 500GSM instead unless your bed is near wall to wall glass which lets in cold (then consider the 700GSM).

If you a normal person (5 to 6 in the scale) and live in a cold house or climate then consider the Halcyon 500GSM instead.

Can it get any better?? – You could sleep naked in the snow with this doona and you'd be warm. It's also not too hot that you overheat unless of course you're covered in clothes and your heater is on full blast. The best investment I've made in the bedroom. Replaced my whole families donnas with these.  Show details

  Halcyon Dreams Pure Opulence 700GSM

Best quilts ever – I purchased two Pure Opulence 700GSM quilts. One for myself and my wife and one for my son. My wife is a person who feels the cold more than most I can say this is money very well spent. Haven't had a complaint of a cold night since the purchase. Really love it.
