Brilliant to start with. Easy enough to install. 7 Line has a great capacity. BUT the lines frayed within a few months. Now after just 16 months it is clunky, lines will not retract properly, the tension is terrible and lines sag. Even with the double tensioner at its tightest point and after resetting. The warranty does not cover lines etc. I… Read more

have done my money and will NEVER buy another one of these. Sadly, Hills used to stand for quality. This is a terrible product. I will buy another brand now.

Absolute garbage. We have had a 6 line retractable clothesline for 3 1/2 years and all 6 lines are frayed to the point they won’t retract anymore. I contacted hills and they refuse to repair or replace even though it’s under warranty. Total, complete, and utter garbage. Show details

Follow-up  · The line felt strong initially, we use it once a week and instillation was quick and simple.

Great Spacesaver! – We have always had the Rotary version up till now but after concreting the clothesline area, we decided to try a retractable line attached to the House. Our Concretor made the post hole and thoughtfully raised the rim of the housing so that water does not get in. The post sits easily in its holder and was fitted in a few minutes. The main line… Read more ·  1

housing is compact and fits snugly on the wall. We put in two additional masonry screws to ensure the line tension did not move it. It is quick to pull out, put into the housing and tension. I start my wet clothes near the main housing and try to ensure all five lines are under tension. This helps to prevent the main weight being near the housing post. After use we ALWAYS retract the lines and they return to the housing very easily. I have not noticed the sagging effect that other Reviewers have mentioned but our line has been in a relatively short time. To be able to utilise the space once the line is retracted is really great. At this stage I would have no hesitation recommending the product.

No tension – The new Hills Retracta 4 from first installing the lines sagged under the lightest of load even on the second tension setting. The earlier versions of Hills retractable clotheslines were easy to tension the individual lines but the current design is basically useless and once the lines stretch will need to just throw out and try a competitors. Show details

OK but didn't last – Installed as per instructions. Looked good and seemed to be well made but the lines sagged badly on the first use. After a few months the lines deteriorated - the PCV coating on the lines peeled off near the drum so it no longer retracts. Contacted Hills (Woolworths) for warranty which was a waste of time. Still have it after 4 years, but 1 line… Read more

broken, and another 2 sagged so badly that we don't bother using them. So out of 6 lines, only 3 are any good. I would buy another brand next time.
