For a product that comes with a 'Lifetime' warranty, the materials are pretty substandard. Pivot and assembly bolts are Cadmium plated which are going to rust in no time. Mounting plates come with 10mm slotted holes but insufficient clearance to get a hex socket to tighten on a 10mm galvanised bolt. I will be keeping the receipt as I feel its… Read more
highly likely i will be claiming on the warranty in the future. A suggestion to Hills, replace with 316SS and charge a few dollars more, make it a point of difference. Oh, and increase the clearance for a standard Hex bolt head to allow a socket to fit.
Absolute waste of money I bought this product and followed the instructions to mount the brackets, time I put it together it was well off and mounted it to where it sat. When I put the joining pieces in it failed to swing up and down without hitting each other. The holes for the screws was tight from the paint and had to drill out to put through the bracket and when tightened stripped the head bolts Ended up throwing this rubbish away Show details

Terrible service. Bought a Hills folding frame clothesline from Bunnings and had it professionally installed. The line ripped with no warning in less than two years. After contacting customer service they would not offer a replacement line. Believe it or not their advice was a bird may have ripped it.. I am not buying their products again. Show details

Frame is poorly made aka just pure trash – Just installed it today and finally got to the last part where you needed to feed through the line and tighten which ended up warping the frame. I have attached photos of what happened

Rusted in 2 years. 10 year warranty is rubbish – Bought a new hills clothes line as the previous one was 13 years old. The new one has rusted in 2 years. Hills says this isn’t affecting the functionality. What rubbish at this rate it will fall to pieces in less than 5 years. My old 13 year old one had less rust in it than this new 2 year old one. Don’t waste your time buying their products. They aren’t what they used to be. Show details

Rusted clothesline – In only 3 years our Hills foldable clothesline is rusting from the inside out. Rust is staining out clothes. Their products don’t even last more than 3 years and btw their 10 year warranty is rubbish as they don’t back their products. Received a response from AMES “The product team have advised that the surface rusting of part of normal wear and… Read more
tear for the product”. What a joke! Normal wear and tear! Oh but we offer 10 year warranty but sorry your clothesline surface rust is normal wear and tear! Normal wear and tear from what? A clothesline is meant to be outside in the weather and built to last for Australian conditions! Their statements and warranty are false and misleading! Buyer beware.

Pole mounted clothesline should be labelled “suitable for people of short stature only” – This clothesline might be ok wall mounted (probably not reading the many very different issues purchasers have placed on their review site) but should definitely NOT be purchased with their pole kit for in ground installation. Following their instructions the line should be 50mm high above the intended user HOWEVER instructions also state that at… Read more
least 500mm be concreted into the ground of the pole kit (additional cost). This kit comes in one size only. Any longer most people wouldn’t be able to fit it into cars (hence their reason for not providing a longer length ple kit - no one of average height would buy it). Once I stalled and the line fitted BELOW the height of the poles and cross bar anyone over the height of 5’4” or 162cm or when wearing shoes taking them over this height has to duck and weave under and around it attempting to hang washing. The post lengths are 2400mm. They know about this and THEY DON’T CARE! Their sale is achieved. NEVER buying anything from them again. Promises of a return call from product review team or customer service don’t happen either … no surprise and I in good faith deliberately purchased from an Australian company. The product is made in China.

Rubbish Product, Rubbish Customer Service From Hills – Do not buy. Hills misprinted their instructions and instructed to use a drill bit that was not compatible with the product. Hills acknowledges the drillbit issue but take zero responsibility. Their customer service was "pathetic" to the point where I will not support this company in the future Show details

Missing bits, customer service won't replace – Needed a new clothesline for our house that we were building. Decided to buy Hills as I thought they were a good company. When I go to build the clothesline, the packet of screws that the instruction booklet said were in the box weren't actually in there. I contacted Hills to ask for a replacement set (only needed 4 screws & 4 nuts, so didn't… Read more
want to go buying whole packets of these things) but rather than being told "No worries, we'll send that out to you" they wanted photos of my clothesline + a proof of purchase. Unfortunately when you move house things like receipts aren't first priority to put somewhere easy to find.
Told Hills this, they said they wouldn't supply without proof of purchase. Who in their right mind would be trying to "scam" 4 screws & nuts?
Terrible customer service. If I do find my receipt before I go buy some screws, I think I'll just return it & won't buy a Hills product again.
Wish I'd read these other reviews first.
Hills Double Folding Frame clothe line. Poor quality/manufacture – Purchased this article two weeks ago. Set about installing on a brick wall. All seemed to go well until we tested the clothes line for operation to ensure all was OK. When moving the outer clothes line to fold down the RHS arm of the mounting arm bracket mechanism broke and when starting to disassemble, the left arm mechanism also broke. On… Read more
inspecting the break, I found that the arm only had a very thin portion of plastic holding the arm at the base of the mounting arm bracket. In my opinion, this appears to be a manufacturing fault. See attached photo. How can such a small sliver of plastic hold even up to 20kg of weight.
We returned the article to the retailer for a refund and purchased another brand.
Never, ever, ever buy this product – After removing a 60+ year old Hills Hoist from the back yard, I purchased this space saving folding frame clothesline. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it as I ordered it through a hardware store. There is nothing good about this product. The worst part is the design of the plastic 'Tie Off Caps'. On one end, the entire weight of the clothes… Read more
rests on these caps and they break all the time. You can see them here [Link removed]. The weight of the clothes causes the lugs to pull out and twist the plastic. When it comes down to it, the weight for each lug is carried on two 1mm square sections of plastic. After 2 years, we have gone through a pack of 6 replacements already and need more (Currently temporarily available - no wonder).
To make the problem worse. all of the plastic on this product deteriorates rapidly and feels brittle and chalkie after a year or so. Poor quality plastic and poor design means clothes on the ground.
Once installed, this hoist feels rickety and can easily wobble from side to side. (No, Im not talking about the fastenings to the wall, they are solid) If you lift it up to fold away off centre, the other side sags down. Even the closing mechanism is flawed. When you fold it back against the wall, the metal clangs against the wall.
Terrible, terrible product. Shame on you Hills. After producing a clothes line that lasted for decades, you now make one that will be lucky to last 5 years.
