great cooler for my needs
I had a window aircon in my previous home ( house) but my unit needed something to get me through this summer. After much research I decided on this Evaporitive Cooler. My entire living area is 24 square meters, quite small. I also have large shade trees out front (western side) which shade my unit from early afternoon. This means I don't get direct full sun on the front of my unit or that section of roof after mid afternoon. I also have well sealed doors and good roof insulation. ALL these things are the reason ( in my opinion) why this cooler...works well for me. Every situation is different. I place the cooler near the hall leading to the bedroom and have the bedroom window open about 15cm (east side of the unit). I have my lounge window open 15cm which is diagonally across from the cooler. Also near that window I place a tower fan and this helps circulate the cooler air back toward the cooler and other corners. This has meant at my living room has maintained a reasonable temperature of 29deg. Which when its 40 outside is quite good. Although I also dont try running an oven or anything like that and am not doing anything overly strenuous to cause me to get overheated. As stated, it is NOT an airconditioner and therefore is not supposed to "chill" the air. What is DOES do for me is provide a constant, cool airflow like a breeze when sitting in the shade by a river.....without the flies! Therefore keeping me comfortable until sunset when I can open the windows for cooler night air. It is quieter than mose I have used, has 3 speeds and the remote is handy. Also on those very sticky nights it can be easily rolled into the bedroom. Not for everyone, but brilliant in the right situation.
Cools well - make a lot of sound
I really appreciated this over summer. It make our stuffy bedroom bearable but we would have to switch it off when we went to sleep because the 'roaring train' effect was too much. It doesn't sound too bad during the day but its too loud at night. Its a good machine though. Its portable and comes with a compartment for ice. So long as you have reasonable expectations about its capabilities (size limit) it does a good job
Good for cooling but noisy
I bought it from last summer. It’s really good in hot day from 35 degree. With the water tank underneath, it’s very easy to clean and fill water. Much more cooler than normal fan, easy to move.
The cons is it’s quite big, not suitable for small room and very noisy at night.
NO MORE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS
Cooling function very effective; easy to set up, ie to attach exhaust hose to vertically-sliding, bedroom window; easy to operate the sensible, functional selection of options, eg, "sleep"; noise of no concern, personally, although some friends have reservations about it (thus 4-Star rating); and, my little Moodle (Maltese/Toy Poodle), who's bed's next to it, is still a bit apprehensive.
Quiet and efficient
I've been through several cheap air-cons and been disappointed. They ended up rattling away like crazy. So I saved up and got the Honeywell- always had a great reputation in the US for their products - and this has proved to be perfect for the summer. Just a very low hum that wouldn't bother anyone, in fact can be quite soothing, and perfectly chills the room. Make sure you always get the right size for the room you tend to use it in.
As with all these portable air-cons they can be misleading in some aspects. It's not that easy to trundle it f...

unit workswell as far as cooling the only minor detail is a litle noisy but does what it says and is great as movable it has a large water tank so does last quite a while beore you have to refill it..would be ideal if you are in small house or unit
Read the Small Print
I firstly wish to point out that this unit is NOT an air conditioner, and therefore don't expect cold air-conditioner air. Secondly, the climate you live in will determine whether this product is for you. Not recommended for Humid environments like central and north Queensland, but not useless. Thirdly, don't use this device like an air-con with everything closed up. As per manufacturers instructions, there needs to be an in flow of air from outside and an out flow. This helps the device perform at its best.
Once you've got the above po...ints sorted, i would recommend it. Great to cool large spaces and user friendly. An ice compartment helps for faster cooling. My major criticism is the night mode. It will run the device at high fan speed for 2 hours, then automatically down to medium fan speed for two hours, then on low speed until turned off or manually adjusted. I have no clue why you'd want to run the cooler for that long as half hour intervals would be more appropriate. Another criticism is the noise. For some people this isn't a worry, but for others it can be irritating. For example, if your running the cooler in a lounge room, you'll find the TV difficult to hear (even on low fan speed). To add to my previous point, the noise may be disruptive when trying to sleep. Overall, a great device worth your money if you use it right and match to your climate.
Very Happy with Purchase! Easily drops temperature.in large lounge.
Could not decide between portable evaporative cooler or refrigerated air-con but extremely happy with this purchase. Wanted something that did not drag the power and increase electricity bill significantly. Also not keen on ice cold air of refrigerated (on sore back, shoulders and neck) Our ceiling fan needed replacing and this was comparable in cost (and could not get electrician out in 40 degree hear anyway!!) $300 new from local supplier (recommended off Facebook). A little larger than expected but blew us away with the fan alone (pun intend...ed). Definitely works better with ice in the top or ice cold water. Cooled our large living space nicely. And gave the kids some relief from the heat. Large water tank means only need to fill once a day - depending on temperature. Needs to be sat directly in front of a window ie in line with the window sill to receive maximum benefit. We elevated ours on a small\lamp table which was the exact height of our window sill - worked beautifully. Worked beautifully. Energy efficient. Inexpensive to buy - Purchase price was comparable to cheap\second-hand refrigerated unit BUT came with 2 year warranty. Largish. A little loud (but no louder than portable air-con). Positioning near window is tricky (but I think, again, no worse than air-con?)
