Humax HDR-7500T

Perfect PVR – I have had my Humax for 7yrs plus. It has never failed once until some time last year an annoying box would pop up in the middle of the screen telling me it was not connected to the internet. I couldnt find out the reason for this so continued to delete the message and ignore it. Finally replaced the dongle and that fixed the problem. Show details
Better Humax but been replaced – The original was 1TB but was replaced by the 500GB version with a smaller hard disk the Humax was raped by the manufacturers because they thought the lower price will sell more products. Instead of improving the product they have gone backwards. The programmers who designed the software where at best average to poor. The original allowed more shows to be stored and had reasonable software with some bugs. Show details
Terrific Product - Humax HDR-7500T – * I have just received this unit and have used it for about 1 week * Very much like it * It has great picture & sound * The display & EPG are big (letters) and easily readable from across the room * It's a snap to record any single program ; just navigate to it and touch the red record button * It then puts that program on the schedule to be… Read more
recorded * The unit can be in standby when it records * There are multiple ways to get the same actions * I have-not done complicated double recordings and viewings yet but expect that it will work as expected * I regularly delete programs that I have watched and have-not had the problems that others have had with the HDD becoming full * As with any complex remote controller , pressing the wrong button gives unexpected results * I'm continually rescuing my wife's wanderings * The EPG is free and there are-no subscriptions to run-up your hidden costs *
* So Far , I would unquestionably recommend this product to anyone (5 stars) * These units are still available if you look around *
##############
* Let me add one further comment * After using the HDR-7500T for a few weeks now , I find that the remote controller is less than easy to use * It has many buttons on it and they seem to be layed-out logically * However , I find that the buttons I use most frequently >
MENU , VOLUME , BACK , EXIT , INFORMATION , NUMPAD , PLAY , STOP , OPT+
are difficult to find in the dark * I've even placed a torch/flashlight nearby to use when I can't guess the locations * I don't know what the solution is ; either a better layout or backlit buttons when one is pressed *
##############
* One thing I find that could be improved > If you record two channels that overlap in time , you cannot select a TV channel to watch during the overlap (only two tuners , of course) * This annoys my wife to no end * You can "Delete" one of the overlapping programs before the double recording starts but it doesn't delete that one recording , it deletes the series * Unless you pay attention and reset the series recording after the program ends , you might forget and fail to record that series in the future * Deleting a single recording when in EPG/Schedule would be better than deleting the whole series *
* I also notice that , once a double recording starts , you cannot stop one of the recordings (and sometimes can't even access them to stop one) * You just have to wait until one of the overlapping recordings stops naturally * To avoid this , I try to be diligent and review my list in EPG/Schedule to pick-up any overlaps * Again , deleting one overlap deletes the whole series *
* BTW , recording a series also sets-up a folder * It's good even if you want to record only one program *
* I would also like to see more items in the list of "New Keywords" * When I delete a series for the above reason , I can refind it and reset the series in the keywords list * However , the list is too short and you lose the bottom one every time you add another "New Keyword" *
* About every one or two months I need to switch off the unit at the rear toggle switch to reset it because it starts to get lost a bit (see my answer under "Gary asked on Apr 19, 2018" * It always resets fine and is good for another month or two * I considered updating the firmware but they have never changed it * Maybe the EPROMS are weak or something *
* Anyway , it's still a fantastic product and I continue to recommend it with 5 stars *
Great unit - 2 years old and no issues – We've has this unit for at least a couple of years and it's still going strong. Easy to use, quality seems ok, recording works well. Links in with my Samsung tv and Yamaha home theatre system without any problems. Slight sync adjustment required but that's not uncommon. My only complaint relates to the inbuilt series recording function and… Read more
guide. Ice TV was pushed fairly heavily and I bought a lifetime subscription at the time which was awesome. Worked really well. Unfortunately Ice TV went under, my lifetime subscription lost and a new company by the same name arises but now needs a payment of $7 per month. The stock standard inbuilt guide and recording function for series is not as good and now with the advent of streaming tv subscriptions I might choose another option.
Dies just about warranty expiry time! Old machine better than the new 4tune (HMS-1000T) – I have to say that this was a good recorder. Apps are not great and have got less. Iview not available as ABC changed to update. I think that the disk filled up - with each record & delete bits of data are left. The unit would not let us do a factory reset to wipe the disk. Stopped deleting and recording. It did have excellent search & storage… Read more
capabilities. You could search ( and store in) categories such as " drama, movies, comedy etc. All movies shown in the next week of two would be listed. Logical yes? The newest HUMAX machine I returned to the store. Hopeless. you have to go through the EPG to find say movies. A big task. Once programs are recorded they are sorted into silly categories : by channel, by date - who wants to know that? I would like to look through the recorded movies category but the new device does not have anything like that. All programs recorded, are stored as icons so it is a pain to look through them. The remote is awful and cumbersome to go back & forth back & forth ..... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Buy a different brand. I have to say that Fetch has the same "sorting" failings too. Crazy when you think that you cant find and sort your library of material on a machine whose sole purpose is to do that.
Follow-up review from Baulko Man – I wrote my review on this HDR in May 2015 & to date with the exception of a few re-boots after freezing, I am still rating this Device 'very highly'. The picture quality is just outstanding. I also have a Foxtel IQ & can assure everyone that the search programs functionality which the Humax has, is far superior compared to the IQ. My only regret… Read more · 1
is that I purchased a 500GB & not 1TB Humax. This is because the Humax functionality is so good, that I record far too many programs & without having the time to watch & delete the programs, the hard drive frequently becomes full. Note. Once your hard drive is full, all future recordings will fail until you have 'cleared' enough space to commence recording again.
Hope you find this follow-up review puts a bit of balance in the negative reviews this product has received.
Regards,
Baulko Man
Carked it just out of warranty period – This unit was not ffy from the start, worked ok for a bit, but then had to reboot it at least once a week, then a few months out of warranty it started freezing, lost access to hard drive etc. Rendering it unuasable. I won't buy another Humax that's for sure. TV portal was nothing of note either...
This unit doesn't even meet Beta standards. Did they actually test this? – Worst piece of home entertainment technology I have ever bought. It keeps losing its record whole season memory. The pause, fast forward and rewind function often stops working and worst of all their warranty department doesn't even respond to emails or complaints. Do they actually have a warranty department? If you are looking for a new PVR, buy anything but Humax.
Cheap Garbage – Don't waste your money, better units are available for much less. Very cheap and nasty unit, doesn't operate properly, fails to record for no reason, has to be switch off and on to work and is just poorly built and designed. Unbranded units from China are better for half the price.
this recorder is perfect – This recorder is the best recorder we have ever had we will never buy any other brand ,it does everything it says ,with a fantastic back up ,we have told all our friends & a lot of them have purchased one so simple to use compared to our panasonic which was much more expensive well done HUMAX Carol
Whole of series recording – I only use my set to record programmes. I have found that only one show consistently records even though I press for record whole series. Mostly the programme only records the once although sometimes it does go for a couple of shows. A family member has informed me the same happens for her although she usually has a few recordings happen before it disappears.
Man o man what a rip off – I dont have the technical jargon. i have to keep turning it off for reboot its slow it doesnt play any other files but its own It seems to have conflicts with epg in fact i bought it because of all the great reviews.....obviously they must come from share holders i wish i could get my money back dont...just dont go there.
Not quite perfect but very, very good – Having owned a couple of PVRs (an OK Strong and a terrible DGTEC) this unit is way superior. The picture and sound are good. I subscribed to the Ice TV service and have found the recording to be very reliable. Fancy that - a PVR that actually records stuff when you want it to! Having said that, it's not perfect. Very rarely it fails to record… Read more
the program (say 1 in 100) and sometimes when it records it does not put the recording in the right folder. Also, if a program overruns (e.g. extra time in sport) it doesn't extend the recording time. (Schedule those manually I suggest.) Overall though, these are very minor complaints. It does simple stuff (like record the news every night) fine.
The TV portal is not great. The apps are a bit limited and it's very slow. But I didn't want the unit for that anyway.
It serves DLNA content well and I use it rather than use the TV. I've also used the FTP server and that works very well.
If you want a unit that does the basics very well with some extra bits, this is a good unit. Would suggest getting IceTv though.

Most unreliable piece of electronic equipment I've ever purchased – Thought I might have found a replacement for TiVo but Humax 4tune has so many bugs it drives me crazy. Too often when I Turn on from standby you get sound and pixilated screen, try 'again pixilated screen and no sound. Try again some combination of the above or it may actually work. Cannot maintain connection to wireless LAN and keeps forgetting… Read more
network password so no epg. Looses details of Scheduled recordings for recording whole series.
Regularly requires hard reset to function. Absolute garbage.
Terrific Value – I recently threw out the TEAC PVR that I had put up with for 5 years, when it needed a third hard drive. After doing a lot of research I purchased the Humax and have been very impressed. The quality of the picture is actually better than before. The process of recording and playback is really easy to navigate. I particularly like that the fast… Read more
forward/reverse is done in 30sec periods, so if you set it to x4, its 4 x 30secs each press. So you can wiz through the commercials, as you can go up to x30. I bought from The Good Guys and the dongle for the internet connection came with it. You also get a 3 month ICE Tv subscription. The programme guide is good and it claims to always record your programs even if they change the times or dates. But I have missed endings of programs, so I won't renew the subscription. The Humax's own EPG is pretty good and you can put extra time at the beginning or end of your recordings and using this works better for me. I can save recordings to a thumb drive and then be able to watch it on another TV, brilliant. 500gb is plenty, I record a lot and my last PVR had 64 programmes save on it and still only used 75%. Very happy with this purchase, and I got the extra warranty with it, so I am covered for 5 years of trouble free viewing.
good – This product has been good I don't use the internet options (streaming, catch up t.v) but you can always get a software update from their direct website and install via usb, all I want is a pvr that records 4 programs at once from 4 different channels and this does it so im happy, you can also transfer recorded programs to a usb to watch on other… Read more
devices, the only thing I wish is the tittles on the guide were smaller that way the whole tittle will be viewable instead of having to highlight it.
The only pvr with 14:9 picture size – I love the picture size choices as I love the14:9 aspect ratio using an old crt tv I disapprove of widescreen for everyday viewing
Significant problem with ABC iView – iView has not worked on the Humax for the last 3-4 months at least. At one point SBS' online viewing portal didn't work either. I would avoid buying one of these until they sort it out and it's been stable for a while.
An update. As of July 1st 2015, iView and the SBS viewing portal will be shut off completely from… Read more
Excellent product, easy to use and does what it is supposed to" RECORD program's " – My last two pvrs were topfield 7100hdpvrt which was absolute rubbish and never worked properly, then a 7170 again with similar issues missed recordings very erratic and noisy, and totally unreliable horrible UI and customer service nonexistent . I've only had my humax for one week so I hope I don't jinx myself but I love it so far, very easy to… Read more
set up,UI very easy to use, I've hooked up an external hard drive to see how it handled different file formats and had no problems, the wifi works perfectly and was easy to do a software update over the wifi.
Very quiet cannot hear it running unlike the topfield, you can time padding to the start and finish of recordings if needed, add skip feature works great, so very happy so far, if you have ever owned a topfield 7100 or 7170 and struggled with it like I have, the humax is a massive step forward and does everything it says it can do perfectly.
You will not be disappointed. :-)
I love my Humax – It does everything I want it to. Don't know why anyone thinks Wi-Fi is slow mine runs at a great speed. Records without a hitch and has the extras of Iview, SBS free movies and Youtube. Excellent product at an excellent price and Ice TV has 3 months free trial plus $149 for 5 years.
A good product, does everything that I need – It was easy to set up,& so far working well.Recording programs is a simple procedure.I like being able to record two programs at once. And yes I do recommend this product.
Absolute rubbish – I hate mine.. As simple as that... Won't record a series. You set it it starts then 3 or so shows in it will stop. I contacted them they said they know they have issues with it recording a series so I should use ICE TV until they send an update. Ice Tv is only free for a couple of months and a pvr should record a series without the need to buy an… Read more
app. Their updates are rubbish. They tried to fix the WiFi problem they have.. It has a poor WiFi reception but their update did nothing. It started to record shows I didn't select.. God knows why. Tried to time it just to record the sports report on the news (10 minutes) I kept getting the whole news report (1 hour)... My old pioneer dvd hdd was so much better. Yes it can't record two channels but at least it wasn't absolutely mental like this machine... Records two channels good quality, Good paper weight or door stop... small hard drive, WiFi useless, completely useless at setting it to record a whole series and it chose it's own programs it liked to record

Great first PVR - very happy – I purchased this about a week ago to record some of the World Cup games and I'm very happy with it so far. It was much easier to set up than I expected and I find the interface and remote very easy to use. It's great to be able to select series recording, to record two shows at once and to be able to pause live tv. I'm now wondering why I… Read more
didn't get one earlier! It's easy enough to set preferences to start recording earlier than the scheduled show time to account for changes to the free-to-air program guide (and to stop recording later). Alternatively, the humax 7500T comes with a free 3 month subscription to IceTV but you'll need a wireless usb dongle to access this as IceTV requires an internet connection. I would definitely recommend this product - particularly to first-time PVR buyers. Easy to set up, easy to use, series recording, pausing live tv, record 2 shows at once, relatively inexpensive compared to others, fast forwarding ads, 2 year warranty
Easy to set up – Bought the 500GB unit from Goodguys and the Wifi Dongle was included. And it comes with 3 months trial on iceTV free. The unit is relatively easy set up and recording programs are a breeze with the iceTV application. All in all, half an hour was all it took to have the unit set up. The unit being a DLNA server can stream its recorded… Read more
programs to ipad, iPhone and Windows / Mac computer.
We used 8Player on ipad / iphones. VLC on Mac and XBMC on the windows 8.1 PC. And the Humax is set up with the wifi dongle.
The iceTV application is very easy to use and we like the fact you can access and change the recording schedule on your iPhone or ipad or computer. If you don't have iceTV, then you will have to set all that with the remote control on the Humax box.
One caveat is that if you use remote devices to set the recording schedule, then the Humax box will need to receive the new information back through the internet. It will not receive the information back if it is on standby with the power saving standby feature set to ON. So you either have to switch that to off (the unit will consume 23 Watt instead of 0.9 Watt if you do that) or switch on your Humax manually to receive the update.
So all in all, very happy with purchase. iceTV integration and recorded show can stream to multiple devices when unit is on standby, schedule recording will start but there is no indication to confirm that from what i can tell... maybe the LED is a stronger red, i dont know
Slow and disappointing – Have had this for a couple of weeks now. Replaced a Teac HDR 2500T with a bad tuner. A great machine The good first; The add skip is the whole reason why we got this unit and it works ok but the firmware could do with a finite adjustment for this function instead of giving only 30,60,90 and 120 second jumps. I have found that most commercial… Read more
breaks are stopping a few seconds over the even minutes. I connected it to a hard wired network and it connected easily and most of the internet apps work fine. The remote is multi functional and didn't take long to set up. The menu is easy to use and it's clearly marked on the remote. The YouTube app works flawlessly. The Humax TV porthole is a great idea and mostly works ok
The Bad;
The streaming apps are pausing during playback there needs to be some sort of buffer adjustment. I View app doesn't play at all after the firmware update though it my be my isp. The same videos when played back on a pc on the same connection are fine so I don't think it is my network connection. The machine is very slow to start, it can also be very slow to respond to the remote sometimes (Normally when recording), 3~120 seconds. This causes some double pressing on the remote and the obvious problems that will go along with that. Sometimes the only way to get it to respond is turn off the power switch on the back. The Guide is easy to set for recording with an option to view by single station would make it easier to set up the weeks recording. It works ok with the usb playback in some formats not all. The screen on the front displaying channel information is a waste ( No firmware option to turn off ) and the expense should have been spent on a better CPU/memory to improve the multi tasking.
The Summary;
Compared to my old Teac it hardly casts a shadow. The slow response, the slow boot and the flaky performance of the apps is disappointing. It records it's programs on time and wont allow conflicts. Great ideas poorly executed. Adjustable Add skip button. The Humax apps and Internet connectivity Slow. Freezes occasionaly and no option to turn off the front display
So much better than theTopfield – Our first pvr was a Bauhn from Aldi which had many, many eccentricities. It still lasted 5 years and was replaced with a Topfield which started having recording issues after 14 months. That now seems to be sorted after a firmware upgrade - no thanks to Topfield who were most unhelpful and many thanks to the Good Guys who helped to sort it out. … Read more
But I digress - if only to show what I am comparing to. We thought the Topfield was a quantum leap forward from the Bauhn, but I have to say the Humax is sooooo much better again. The ease of use is amazing, the connection to IceTV for a much better epg and the ability to set series recordings, get updated when new shows start, get suggestions of shows you might like, set 'favourites' so that you will know when a series returns - all great user friendly features. We always had problems with being able to transfer recorded shows from the Topfield on to any external device, but the Humax does it so easily. It also has internet capability via a dongle (comes with it if you but from the Good Guys) so you can get iView and SBS catch up tv on screen. We love it! IceTv, internet connection for iView etc
Get One! – After our 5 year old Beyonwiz started playing up I researched the current machines and found the Humax offered the best features for the price. Bought it at Good Guys who even offered a better deal than their online price of $278 and threw in the WiFi dongle. I have only had it for a day but I love it already. I am using the free epg, I can't se… Read more
the value in using the subscription iceTV. The setup is simple and fast, and having had other pvrs, it took only minutes to learn the controls of the Humax. It is very quiet and I like the front display with the blue/red on/record light, the scrolling summary of what you are watching (not too bright as to be distracting), and the universal remote which also controls my TV and Bose sound box, doing away with two of the three remotes I used to need. The HD picture is great, no lip sync problems which often occurs with other boxes, I like the on-screen progress bar which shows how much is recorded, where you are in the recording etc. Playing files from iView and SBS through the home WiFi is easy and fast with the WiFi dongle supplied. The kit included an HDMI cable so you don't need to buy one of those, which some retailers can sting you $40 or more for. The programmable skip forward and back is an essential feature as far as I am concerned and some other pvr's do not have that. It allows you to skip over ads very quickly, both in playback mode and in timeshift mode. Also does slo-mo, and the skip function is extremely fast. You can also watch live TV while recording two other programs as long as two of the programs originate from only one signal (e.g. ABC, SBS, 7, 9 or 10). I haven't tried recording to USB media or playing from an external source as yet, but on my experience so far I am sold on it! It only cost half of what the Beyonwiz cost 5 years ago and has twice the HDD capacity. Comes with a 2 year warranty and I bought the extra 2 years replacement/refund warranty from Good Guys because they reduced the overall price to $299 including warranty and dongle. IceTV sell it for $100 more if you want the iceTV epg, and other online retailers such as appliances on line were also more expensive. You can get the 1Tb HDD variant if you need more storage. Easy to use, great picture, huge range of functions, not an expensive machine Nothing so far
Great PVR – Third time lucky after taking back the topfield pvr and panasonic, I thought they where both terrible especially the topfields epg and panisonic you are limited on the amount of show you can record. This is a great machine and does everything I need it to and more. Works with or without internet connection. Series record, great tuner pick up all Chanel's easy to use , great picture, everything
OK .. but – If you've never owned a PVR before, you will likely think this is a good machine, and it mostly is. I've moved from a Topfield 2400 to this unit so I have an idea of what is possible and likely wrong with the Humax. I really dislike the Folders setup for 'series' recordings. If you setup a series recording every program of that will be… Read more
saved in an individual folder. The main issue I have with this is, if I am recording two consecutive shows on a channel, the end of the first may be clipped by timing issues, but will be at the beginning of the 2nd recording. All good, but I have to try and remember what is recording after the first show to find the ending of it. If the folder structure was turned off, I would simply play the next in line.
Others have mentioned the layout of Remote. I have to agree, what a waste of remote organisation. The buttons you would use the most are small finicky things and then you have these big easy to find buttons that you rarely need to use.
The picture quality is nice on the Humax, it seems as if they are upscaling the resolution, however, the tuner/receiver isn't as good as the Topfield's. I have degradation of signal on this unit that I didn't see on the previous one.
There's nothing really wrong with this machine, and I likely wouldn't note these niggling thngs if I hadn't owned other PVRs before, but, when I buy another, I will likely go back to Topfield, simply because of these minor 'annoyances'! It records TV! Minor annoying use flow.
Closest Thing To TiVo I've Seen! – We had to look around for a replacement PVR after I broke the HDMI port on our TiVo. We originally bought a Topfield TRF-7160 and hated it. Ugh, don't get me started. After looking around online we found the ICETV website which recommended, among others, the 1TB Humax HDR-7500T. The Humax is a quantam leap ahead of the Topfield in terms of the… Read more · 5
user interface and ease of use. The on screen display is clean, modern and uncluttered. You can use the built in EPG or the subscription based IceTV which brings the Humax to being the closest replacement to TiVo I've seen because it adds the ability to skip repeats in series recordings.
The front panel lights include a large indicator ring light which show the units status; orange for powered down to standby, blue for on and idle, and red for recording. Off is obviously off! The llights are obvious but thoughtfully discreet, unlike the Topfield which has a blazing blue ring all the time.
The remote control is large and the buttons could be a tad more logically placed, but the basic guide, media, exit and back buttons all surround the OK and arrow keys providing most of the mundane functionality close to hand.
When you first install the Humax, you may find there are duplicate channels in your list like channel 7 on 7 and 70. IceTV told me that the Humax will default recordings to the lowest channel number that the show appears on. So for something on channel 7, it will record it off 7 instead of 70. My suggestion is that before you schedule any recordings, edit your channel list so that there's only one of each channel, and then set up your schedule so you don't have recordings based on channels which you then delete.
Love it. Size, discreet front panel display, features, ICETV compatibility, user interface, easy to use.
Great device – I ended up with this 500GB PVR, after a total failure with a 1TB Grundig PVR. Harvey Norman was really good and provided me with this Humax PVR. membership (will cost me an extra $99 for a lifetime).
I've been using Foxtel IQ the last few years, and their remotes are very good, the Humax is not on the same level. The buttons you most likely will use, TV Guide and your recorded library are fairly small and hidden and its easy to click on the wrong one.
The PVR was easy to set up and the remote control got good response.
Overall a good buy Easy to use, ICETV Remote could be easier to use, something to learn from the Foxtel IQ remote
Best of the bunch currently – Easy setup, Great EPG and menus. Boots up fairly quickly- unlike many other brands. Seems to be stable. Handles just about any file format for movies. Having tried HTPC's and a couple of other brands I was looking fro something smarter than a Topfield- but stable. This unit appears so far to fit the bill Fas Boot, setup, menu, ease of use DLNA and FTP only - no Samba Show 2 replies
So easy to set up and use – Plug it in, tune it up. It's all very easy. Auto time zone and no day light saving to adjust twice a year. Very quiet, you don't here the HDD humming like my old one. set to record for 20 minutes longer on timer recordings for when the TV stations run late. ( and isn't that all the time ) Nice clean design, centre button lights up red so you know when it's recording. Quiet. Easy to use. The remote controll design could be better. Buttons you use a lot like play, scan, stop, record are too small
PAdding doesn't work with ICETV – This unit has a mjor fault if it is used with ICETV (one of the main reasons to buy this unit in my opinion)..
