Ikea Sink is not made to be water proof – Bought a couple of sinks from Ikea. The model name is Boholmen. After they were installed, I was shocked when I saw them. There were already rusty spots on the sinks. We needed to use a bit of for force to rub those spots off, of course we didn't use any abrasive materials or chemicals. Then, we started to use it every day. But the rusty spots came back every now and then. Our old sinks were made in Europe and they never rusted. Also, the Ikea sinks shows up scratch marks very easily. Even if we move something gently across it, a scratch line will be formed.

I contacted the customer service department of Ikea. The girl I spoke to was quite rude. She already assumed I had put something on the sinks to cause the rust. She said something like I had put acid onto the sink. I tried so hard to explain to her that I didn't do anything aggressive to the sink, neither did I put anything unusual onto the sink. Then she said I should have wiped the sink dry every time after use. I was devastated when I heard that. "What? a sink that doesn't allow water to stay on it? What kind of sink is it?" If I knew this was the case, I wouldn't have bought the sinks from Ikea. My old sinks were made in Europe and I never had any rusty spots on them, of course, I never wiped them dry after use.

Ikea always advertises their furniture as Swedish design, but they probably use cheap materials to make them.

This girl that I spoke to probably has never worked in a kitchen and didn't know what the sink was made for, or maybe she was trying her very best to protect her company's reputation.

The sink comes with a 25 years warranty, but I think customers will never be able to get any benefit out of that!
