First class customer service. Love my Ilve gas cooktop and oven – Purchased an Ilve gas cooktop and gas oven around 24 months ago. The cooktop has been perfect from day one - absolutely love its functionality, reliability, not to mention its good looks. We had a couple of issues with the gas oven which took a couple of efforts to get right. We live in a rural, remote area where it's very difficult to get… Read more
on-site technical assistance for any product. However the Ilve rep (Jan) took charge of the matter and exceeded our expectations with finding a solution.
Will definitely purchase Ilve products again in the future.
I would not by an Ilve gas oven again – I bought an ILVE 600L gas VGNG wall oven. Right from the start the door oven handle gets so hot, it is dangerous. The gas kept going out in cooking and after two repairs, he replaced initially and next time adjusted the gas igniter but it made little difference. Yes it stays alight but you cannot turn the temperature down or it goes out. I am… Read more
not happy with it at all. Being now out of warranty, Ilve say their handle is hot and cannot do anything about this or the oven temperature. So I am stuck with a crap oven. I avoid using it. Too expensive to throw away., and cannot be fixed. Ilve do not want to know about it. I guess it cooks at a set temperature, which you cannot turn down but I am still trying to work out which shelf position in oven works best, always use oven mits no matter what or you will burn yourself, looks fine so I will have to give a star but no praise. I would never buy an Ilve product again. The convection oven I bought to match is 645L TKCW - broke down a couple of weeks out of warranty which is the most expensive repair, Ilve paid for the part and I had to pay the repairer. So be fore-warned. Sorry I would love to say a nice thing but apart from it works, sort of, and looks nice.....I would not buy Ilve.
A journey but we had a resolution – I bought this gas emissions oven 18 months ago, but only installed it a year ago when we finished renovations. I have not been able to use the oven even a single time with out problems. I have the service men out here about 6 or 7 times now who are not about the fix the problems. First the igniter was faulty and would not reliably start the… Read more
oven. When it did, it would barely get hot, from my measurement not above 150degree. Couldn't cook a thing.
They came out changed the igniter and told me That in regards to the temperature 'gas ovens are just hot boxes and if you want crunch potatoes, boil them first and put them under the grill'
I accepted this at first as it is my first gas oven, whilst dumbfounded. When I got sick of not being able to cook a cake, or roast, or do anything other than grill AND the igniter was still temperamental I called them back.
They sent the guy out again who said he fixed the problem with the igniter. But again said nothing to be done about the lack of temperature.
I called ilve because I refused to accept that I can't cook anything in the oven because it didn't get hot enough and they sent out a different company who was successful in increasing the temperature to the point I could get the oven hot.
What then happened was that after 20min of reheating the oven, when ever you reduced the temperature from maximum to anywhere below 220° the gas flame would extinguish, but the gas would keep coming out. Also the temperature knob would be s9 hot, it could not be touched with the bare hand, and needed an oven mit.
I called again, they sent out the original people who said there was no problem and left (I wasn't there at the time as I was over seas). Upon return, I tried the oven and the problem was still there - the technician didn't bother staying the 20min to hear the oven up.
So he came back another time, and I preheated the oven. He acknowledged the problem and ordered new parts.
He came back to install those parts, but again left shortly after. Despite me reminding him the issue occurred after 20min of heating. He was running late that day and I guess he figured he had resolved the problem.
That night I used the oven, same problem. Extinguished after reducing temperature once heated and knob overheated.
I called them, they said they would call me back. They didn't, but then I receive a txt msg saying they would be coming the next morning (but i wasn't available).
So in summary 1. I have an ilve oven that doesn't work 2. The service people are not able to resolve the problem despite numerous trips 3. I am frustrated. I invested in an ilve because iv always used them, my parents used them and trusted them. 4. I don't trust the products, or the service staff.
At this point, I don't want to waste any more time with servicing. I want a replacement for product that never worked to begin with.
I have been patient, but enough is enough
EDIT: THE UNIT WAS EVENTUALLY REPLACED. Still doesn't heat as well as other ovens, food takes at least 50% longer to cook.but sufficiently happy now.
Good looking oven, and does the job well – I was looking for a gas oven to replace the compact Smeg microwave oven/convection oven in my apartment. There wasn't much to choose from. When it came down to it, it was between the Westinghouse and the Ilve. I chose the Ilve based purely on looks, and the fact it was a runout model, with a saving of over 60%. Upon unwrapping the oven, I… Read more
noticed a few screws on the back of the oven were loose, very sharp burrs on the sheet metal enclosure, and an ill fitting surround. The rest of the unit appeared to be of acceptable build quality for the reduced price. If I were a full RRP paying customer, I would have returned the oven.
According to the installation instructions, the oven requires extensive ventilation both below and above the front of the oven. No oven installation I have ever seen has this sort of ventilation. As it turns out the cooling fan in the back of the 600LVG is adequate for most baking requirements. However, when preheating the oven to 250degC, the surrounding cupboard doors get rather warm. The oven required both a wired electrical connection and a gas connection, so please ensure you have this oven installed by a gas plumber and also a licensed electrician.
First use of the oven was easy enough. However, the instructions are quite hard to interpret, probably due to fact they were written in Italian first, and then translated into English. The knobs are minimal, with equally minimal markings. Once familiar with the basic functions, they are quite easy to use, and sort of make sense. Sort of. I believe the new model has much more straight forward controls.
Being a gas oven, it heats from the bottom only. A good idea when baking is to put an empty tray on the bottom of the rack, and position your baking tray a couple racks higher. This results in a very even cooking and browning of your dish, and doesn't burn the bottom. When I am baking cakes, I always use a water bath to ensure maximum rise, and also gentle baking.
Cleaning the oven is easy, and straight forward. The electric grill function with fan is also quite effective when grilling meats or omelettes or similar dishes. The well insulated door also feels quite solid and sturdy, and closes quietly. Be careful of the metal strip on the top of the door, as this is a burn hazard.
In summary, it's a good oven, does the job well, and looks good while doing it. However, the questionable build quality and strangely worded instructions let it down. Due to the fairly basic design of the controls and the electronics, I am confident that this oven will well outlast the Smeg it is replacing.
Wish I did not spend the money on this oven – I have had this oven for nearly 2 years, I have trouble starting it nearly every time, I have to stand and hold down the start button for several minutes sometimes not 15 sec. The oven takes nearly a hour to heat up, not good if I just want to cook biscuits for 12-15 minutes. Everthing takes to long to cook, so not worth the money... stainless, gas
Ilve disappointed from the moment it was turned on.
Not even installed and already wishing I could send it back – Didn't come with electric cord (even though it says it does) so will need electrician as well as gas plumber (extra expense). Needs holes for venting above and below which will be aesthetically unpleasant. The capacity is very small even though the external dimensions are similar to our last oven. Sure hope it works well because at the moment… Read more
it looks like we made a bad mistake. Clearly needed more info before purchasing but this wasn't forthcoming from the vendor so had to research on the net and there wasn't much to go on for LPG gas underbench ovens
As above. Expensive for what we got
