and the quality of materials used is second to none compared to a lot of the seats we saw when originally shopping for one. Trust us, as first time parents and going by the advice of our parents, you can't skimp on safety and having our little one comfortable is so important to all of us.
What delighted me was how easy it was for me to be able to put my newborn into the seat. I just had to move the straps out of the way, put his arms and legs through and then buckle him in. The whole time he was very comfortable and didn’t fuss or cry in the seat at all. I also liked how I am able to adjust the seat so it’s suitable for his age and height. Getting him out of the seat was very easy, the buckle only had to be lightly pressed for it to come undone and then I was able to move the straps to take him out.
What could be improved?
What I think could be improved is the way to install it. While installing it, we struggled to get the seat to be tight so that it wasn’t moving around while he was in the seat. In saying that, this is our first baby so we are very new to this and once installed we couldn't be any happier with it.

little one seems to love being in it. He looks so comfortable, even on longer drives, and has happily fallen asleep in it plenty of times. We installed the Pilot car seat rear facing in our Mitsubishi Outlander. We found the manual a little hard to understand but the videos from the QR code made installation a breeze. I also really like the single sided top tether. It's one less strap to work around when you're trying to get a wriggly baby in and out of the car. By far my favourite feature is the magnetic holders on the sides of the seat. Such a simple idea, but SO handy. You can pop the harness buckles onto the magnets while you're getting bub into the seat, so the straps stay out of the way instead of ending up underneath him or getting tangled. Anyone who has tried to get a baby into a car seat while they're wriggling around will understand how useful this is!The harness itself is easy to adjust and I like that the seat can continue to be adjusted as he grows. At 8 months he's obviously still got a lot of growing to do, so I really like knowing this isn't a seat we're going to grow out of anytime soon. There was one thing that confused me when we unpacked everything. I was under the impression that a second set of shoulder pads was included, but we didn't receive any in our box. I'm not sure if ours were just missing or if they're something you need to buy separately. I also love that there’s an option to use smaller shoulder pads for newborns. I’ve always found the standard ones are massive on tiny babies, so this is such a handy feature. We didn’t need it ourselves, but the car seat can also be adjusted for lower weight newborn babies, which I think is amazing! As for the look of the seat, I really love the Ebony colour. It's simple, looks great and goes nicely with the interior of our car and the seat itself doesn’t look bulky in our car. Everything feels like such great quality and equipped to handle everyday use. After using the Pilot multiple times per day for the past few weeks, the biggest positive for me is honestly how comfortable our baby seems in it. A car can have all the fancy features, but if your baby hates their car seat, even a quick trip can feel like forever! Thankfully our little guy is genuinely happy and settled in this one. The soft, breathable fabric and supportive padding make such a difference, especially on longer car trips. I also love the one-handed adjustable headrest, which makes it easy to adjust as he grows, and the compact design is another bonus, particularly when you've got a car full of kids! Knowing it also features advanced D3O impact protection and allows for extended rearward facing gives me extra peace of mind. It's those little details that have really impressed me the more we've used it. Overall, we've had a really positive experience with the Infasecure Pilot car seat and are very happy to keep using as our bub continues to grow. Would 100% recommend this car seat.

what I really liked. Here’s how my husband, my 3 month old baby and I went .
Unboxing: When I first unboxed the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat, there was no plastic wrapping or foam protection inside the box. And, while the reduced waste is certainly a plus for those of us that try to be environmentally friendly, it left me wondering if that could present issues in transit. Some form of recyclable packaging such as cardboard, paper honeycomb fillers, or compostable packing peanuts to help prevent damage to the seat, would have definitely made me feel less concerned; especially with such a high priced item at the RRP of $549. Overall unboxing and unpacking was easy, as no construction was necessary and it came with a manual and all the pieces needed attached and ready for installation. I initially found the instruction booklet to be difficult to follow. However, the QR code provides access to the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seats installation video, which was both extremely helpful and took out all of the guess work. I think the written instructions could be made clearer and easier to understand, particularly for first time parents.
Aesthetics: At first glance the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat appears to be a respectable quality car seat and overall aesthetically pleasing. The matt black polyester blend fabric is clean-looking, and the design and stitching appears to be durable and easy to wipe clean after those inevitable spills and spit-ups. The fabric on the new-born insert creases where the inner harness connects to the back of the seat in use, and while this doesn't affect the stability of the seat, it can leave the insert looking as though it's not sitting right. In my opinion it could be an area where the design could be refined.
Installation: I had the opportunity to try out the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat in both my husband’s Mitsubishi Triton, and my Hyundai i30, and there was a noticeable difference. Installation in the Hyundai was far easier due to open access to the anchor points in the boot area. However, because the Hyundai’s backseat reclines further than the Mitsubishi’s, I had to extend the strap all the way to reach the anchoring points. I found that in the Hyundai I had additional space in the footwell below the car seat, but when the car seat is rearward facing and reclined there is very little space between the back of the car seat and backrest of the front seat. This made it quite difficult to to pass items through such as our baby bag or shopping. Additionally, It's definitely easier getting bub in out of the car seat with the Hyundai being lower to the ground. In my husband’s Mitsubishi it took several attempts to adjust the anchor strap, which meant having to pull the backseat down multiple times to reach the anchor point and adjust it properly so that it aligned correctly and fit snuggly across the back of the backseat. Additionally, due to the Mitsubishi being a more elevated vehicle, we had to pass the buckle strap through the seatbelt path in the base of the car seat by feel, which can be frustrating if you aren’t used to the process and haven’t developed a feel for it. My husband also found that since switching to the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible from a capsule-style carrier system, he has less room for tools and cargo as the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible cannot be removed to create more space easily like some of the more popular capsule-style carriers. I also learnt that the anchor strap needs to be installed completely on the buckle side and sitting straight together all the way to the anchor point behind the backseat, which I eventually had to turn to the instructional video to work out if it was being installed correctly. My husband however found it intuitive to install it in his triton as everything is colour coded and clearly laid out on the car seat itself. I was impressed to discover that the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Car seat is a patent-pending Single-Sided Top Tether designed for practical access. I rather like that I don't have to reach over an additional tether to put my baby into the car seat. It must still be connected to the correct vehicle anchorage and tightened.
To double check the stability and make sure the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Car seat is secure, both my husband and I did the “shake test”. As we have had other car seats in the past for our older children that would shake and not seem very stable despite being installed correctly. Making sure the car seat is secure and stays in place is a big priority for us, so we were relieved when the car seat passed our “shake test”. It remained stable, snuggly fit and secure with very little movement. Even as we travelled down a bumpy dirt road, the car seat remained firm in place.
Fitting Bub in and Out: In fitting bub into the seat I have noticed that the inner harness doesn't always sit straight, which requires a little extra time adjusting the baby in the seatbelt and positioning the straps correctly so they are sitting comfortably on my baby’s shoulders. In particular, I find I need to check that the lower belt straps are positioned appropriately around my baby's hips rather than sitting across their lap. Once adjusted correctly, it appears comfortable, However, I would prefer the harness to naturally fall into position with less fiddling. I was quite pleased with the Velcro straps on both sides of the pilot for the seatbelt and anchor points belt straps, it's a very tidy and organised way to keep the straps out of the way. The magnetic points on the side of the Pilot to hold the seatbelt prongs into place and keeping the straps away is a really handy feature. Many times in the past, when I have tried to take my children out of car seats, the seatbelt straps get in the way when trying to get them out of the car seat and because they wiggle their little arms, they get tangled in the seatbelt straps which can be super frustrating. Having this feature really minimizes that annoyance and makes it smoother taking bub out of the Pilot. It's a much better function compared to the other styles of keeping the straps out of the way. I was previously using a capsule travel system, though it was handy for moving a sleepy baby and being able to put it straight into the pram then back into the car seat base. My baby has now gotten too big and heavy for it, so I was beginning to struggle with lifting the weight in and out of the car. Since using the Pilot, even though I don't have the convenience of just lifting my sleeping baby out without disturbing him, it is so much easier to lift him in and out of the Pilot. I am still managing to move him in and out without waking him.
Bub’s Opinion: Firstly, my baby prefers it compared to the capsule as he can see everything better and it's more comfortable. There is plenty of padding and protection around the baby with good head support which gives me confidence that he is well supported as a younger baby. My baby used to get upset quite quickly when he was in the capsule but since trying the Pilot, my baby seems happier and calmer in the car which is such a life saver. I like that having multiple recline positions makes it easier to find the best setting for my baby, this is really useful if you have a baby with reflux. He falls asleep in it perfectly fine and is easily accessible when someone is in the backseat when he gets upset or needs attention. It also makes it easier to see him through the mirrors when travelling, particularly when we live on a rural property and we have to travel 30minutes to get into town. If you put up a sunshade on the window, I find my baby is getting a healthy amount of mottled sunshine whilst in the car. Which my baby did not get when he was in the capsule.
Versatility: I like that it is a convertible carseat, so i dont need to buy another carseat until my baby is 4 and that it expands over many ages but remains comfortable and sturdy. I didn't get to try the low birth weight function, however I inspected it to see how it works and how to adjust it. If you lift the fabric at the back of the newborn insert, you will see multiple different slots to adjust the straps for small babies. Once installed correctly, the Pilot seems very sturdy and reliable.
The Infasecure Pilot car seat is designed to accommodate babies and children that have a hip spica cast, though this doesn't apply to my situation, but the car seat is very adjustable and adapts to different sizes which provides extra flexibility for a baby with a hip spica cast .
I have used the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Car seat just about everyday for the last few weeks, for a minimum of 45 minutes each time and tested it out in both the Hyundai I30 and Mitsubishi Triton. I have found it very easy to use and enjoyed trying it out as it has been perfect for our needs as a family with a young baby. I am very happy to continue using this carseat for the next several years and trying out the different stages as my baby grows.
The overall design looks aesthetically pleasing and looks well made. If you can afford to spend the $550RRP for the Infasecure Pilot Ebony convertible carseat for your baby, it is definitely worth it in my opinion. It is a mid range carseat, so if you're wanting something slightly above a budget carseat, it's a great option. Looking at the overall practicality, durability, longevity, comfort, cost and how easy it is to use I would recommend the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Carseat.

and out of the car. Following the comprehensive instruction booklet was fairly straightforward for installation. I installed it rear-facing for a newborn. Like most infant car seats, rear-facing takes up a lot of length room in the back seat requiring the front seat in medium to small cars to be moved forward - the Pilot is no different in this regard. This is not an ISOFIX seat so seatbelt feeding is the go here. Feeding the seatbelt through the frame of the seat was a bit of a faff as was trying to feed the belt into the blue Easyguide locking hook. It felt secure. The tether arrangement is different to traditional designs being a single-sided tether. It does mean it’s not in the way for putting baby in the seat. I hope never to find out if it’s better or worse than the typical dual tether arrangement! We have had no issues putting baby into the seat and securing with the belts. Only short trips so far; unfortunately she hasn’t been so forthcoming with feedback…

material smell was not strong on the car seat, either. I liked that. Perhaps having more airflow in the box, not being smothered by plastic, helped. We have had quite a few Infasecure car seats over the years, and we - and our children - have all liked them. And the Pilot does not disappoint. I like this seat. A lot. I've never used such an easy convertible car seat - or capsule - for a baby! The single side tether is fantastic. No more belts in the way when you're trying to get your sleepy - or crying - baby out of a car seat! It's so easy to just lift my son in and out of it. You've got the seatbelt on the door side, down low, holding the car seat in place, and the side tether holds it in place on the far side. And doesn't get in your way! So the seat is secure and you're not having to wrestle top tethers or the like to get your baby in and out! How good is that?! My 4.5 month old is VERY happy in this capsule - on long trips or short trips! He's a chunky monkey and was getting too big for a capsule we already had (Maxi Cosi Mico Plus). That one was meant to last until 6 months, but he grew out of it by 4 months! So we got very little use out of that capsule. This Infasecure Pilot convertible car seat is going to give us so much more use! For people considering whether to get a baby capsule or a convertible car seat, they might want to think about the finances here. Perhaps people think a baby capsule is going to be so much safer, but babies grow out of it by 6 months (on average?) and then you have to upgrade, anyway. And all these car seats are safe. They wouldn't be approved if they weren't. On top of this, the Pilot has a great fit for my baby. At least, I can attest to it being a great fit from 4 months of age! I have not been able to try it on a newborn. Yes, I had to take out the inner lining ('newborn insert') for my baby in this Infasecure Pilot at only 4 months of age, but he's so much happier not being jammed in around his strong and chunky legs. The seatbelt clip is quite wide, with not quite enough padding around the sides of it IMO, and with the newborn insert in there, it's certainly a tight fit against his legs/knees. To be fair, the manual does say to remove the newborn insert when the baby gets too big for it. My baby also gets hot easily, and being completely cocooned in a car capsule/seat is not his idea of fun. So, no insert for him! His head fits nicely and comfortably in the Pilot, and neither his head nor his body move around much at all when driving along. So he seems very safe in there. He was never happy in the Mico Plus. Ever. But in the Infasecure PIlot? He's a happy camper! And I think I know why. The position for his bum is much better in the Pilot. The angles just work. It's a slightly wider angle (he's not as bent over in the middle) and it's not too deep, and it makes for a more comfortable ride for the baby. Basically, it does not put excess pressure on the sacrum nor make the lower back/pelvis roll backwards too much (as a Dr of Chiropractic, I notice these things!). Lots of babies have sacral problems specifically because they are put in baby capsules all the time. I've seen it so often in practice. But the Pilot has a much better alignment for a baby's lower spine. So, it gets my tick of approval! This car seat also has a good (fixed) recline in the rearward facing position. So many capsules or convertible car seats just don't have enough of a recline on them in the rearward facing position. The Infasecure Pilot is the best we've come across. Again, less pressure on the lower spine. The more upright it is, the more pressure on the lower spine/pelvis. I did wonder if there was enough cushioning under his bum in the Pilot (there certainly wasn't in the Mico Plus!), but it actually works very well. It's the right amount of cushioning in the right places. So again, well done Infasecure! With four children now, my poor husband has put so many car seats and capsules in and out of our cars over the years, but he found this one reasonably easy to install. His only criticism installing it as a rearward facing seat is that there is no clamp provided to hold the seatbelt in place once the correct position is reached. The EasyGuide guides the seatbelt to the correct position, but it does not lock the seatbelt in place, and for a car with a non-ratcheting seatbelt, it means the car seat ends up more mobile; something hubby is not happy with. So, he used a seatbelt clamp from a previous Infasecure seat of ours to lock the seatbelt in position, and now it's solid as. The seat also installs securely without the presence of an extendable bar (a common feature on other convertible car seats). The height adjuster is very simple to use: pull a little firmly on the orange tag at the top, and hey presto! The seat goes higher. It's a ratchet, so you can lower it just as easily. Nice. I LOVE that the seatbelt strap tensioner is so easy to use! There are 2 holes at the bottom front of the seat - the upper one has a smooth metal bar in it that you depress to loosen the straps. and the lower hole has the tensioner belt in it. Very easy to use. And comfortable. The Mico Plus, for instance, has a small plastic bar (that likes to pinch my fingers!) and the belt coming out of the one hole. I find I always need two hands to tighten/loosen straps anyway. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Infasecure Pilot convertible car seat easily fit behind the passenger seat in our car. Using the rearward facing position, it's about 2-3cm shorter than the Mico Plus capsule! Overall, this is a very good convertible car seat. Actually, it's excellent. Buy one! You won't be disappointed!

We’re really happy with the InfaSecure Pilot. It feels safe and sturdy, but still comfortable for everyday use. My little one seems settled in it, and I like that it doesn’t feel massive in the car. Pilot has made my life SO MUCH EASIER. With the single sided tether, I can just pop baby in and out, no dramas at all. It was a breeze to install and fits really well into my car.
