InfaSecure Pilot

I received the Infasecure Pilot convertible car seat via the Ambassador program with ProductReview two weeks ago. I was surprised upon opening the box to find there was no packaging material at all! The car seat was absolutely fine, mind you. In fact, it was a nice change to not have to deal with a pile of plastic wrap and the like! The new material smell was not strong on the car seat, either. I liked that. Perhaps having more airflow in the box, not being smothered by plastic, helped. We have had quite a few Infasecure car seats over the years, and we - and our children - have all liked them. And the Pilot does not disappoint. I like this seat. A lot. I've never used such an easy convertible car seat - or capsule - for a baby! The single side tether is fantastic. No more belts in the way when you're trying to get your sleepy - or crying - baby out of a car seat! It's so easy to just lift my son in and out of it. You've got the seatbelt on the door side, down low, holding the car seat in place, and the side tether holds it in place on the far side. And doesn't get in your way! So the seat is secure and you're not having to wrestle top tethers or the like to get your baby in and out! How good is that?! My 4.5 month old is VERY happy in this capsule - on long trips or short trips! He's a chunky monkey and was getting too big for a capsule we already had (Maxi Cosi Mico Plus). That one was meant to last until 6 months, but he grew out of it by 4 months! So we got very little use out of that capsule. This Infasecure Pilot convertible car seat is going to give us so much more use! For people considering whether to get a baby capsule or a convertible car seat, they might want to think about the finances here. Perhaps people think a baby capsule is going to be so much safer, but babies grow out of it by 6 months (on average?) and then you have to upgrade, anyway. And all these car seats are safe. They wouldn't be approved if they weren't. On top of this, the Pilot has a great fit for my baby. At least, I can attest to it being a great fit from 4 months of age! I have not been able to try it on a newborn. Yes, I had to take out the inner lining ('newborn insert') for my baby in this Infasecure Pilot at only 4 months of age, but he's so much happier not being jammed in around his strong and chunky legs. The seatbelt clip is quite wide, with not quite enough padding around the sides of it IMO, and with the newborn insert in there, it's certainly a tight fit against his legs/knees. To be fair, the manual does say to remove the newborn insert when the baby gets too big for it. My baby also gets hot easily, and being completely cocooned in a car capsule/seat is not his idea of fun. So, no insert for him! His head fits nicely and comfortably in the Pilot, and neither his head nor his body move around much at all when driving along. So he seems very safe in there. He was never happy in the Mico Plus. Ever. But in the Infasecure PIlot? He's a happy camper! And I think I know why. The position for his bum is much better in the Pilot. The angles just work. It's a slightly wider angle (he's not as bent over in the middle) and it's not too deep, and it makes for a more comfortable ride for the baby. Basically, it does not put excess pressure on the sacrum nor make the lower back/pelvis roll backwards too much (as a Dr of Chiropractic, I notice these things!). Lots of babies have sacral problems specifically because they are put in baby capsules all the time. I've seen it so often in practice. But the Pilot has a much better alignment for a baby's lower spine. So, it gets my tick of approval! This car seat also has a good (fixed) recline in the rearward facing position. So many capsules or convertible car seats just don't have enough of a recline on them in the rearward facing position. The Infasecure Pilot is the best we've come across. Again, less pressure on the lower spine. The more upright it is, the more pressure on the lower spine/pelvis. I did wonder if there was enough cushioning under his bum in the Pilot (there certainly wasn't in the Mico Plus!), but it actually works very well. It's the right amount of cushioning in the right places. So again, well done Infasecure! With four children now, my poor husband has put so many car seats and capsules in and out of our cars over the years, but he found this one reasonably easy to install. His only criticism installing it as a rearward facing seat is that there is no clamp provided to hold the seatbelt in place once the correct position is reached. The EasyGuide guides the seatbelt to the correct position, but it does not lock the seatbelt in place, and for a car with a non-ratcheting seatbelt, it means the car seat ends up more mobile; something hubby is not happy with. So, he used a seatbelt clamp from a previous Infasecure seat of ours to lock the seatbelt in position, and now it's solid as. The seat also installs securely without the presence of an extendable bar (a common feature on other convertible car seats). The height adjuster is very simple to use: pull a little firmly on the orange tag at the top, and hey presto! The seat goes higher. It's a ratchet, so you can lower it just as easily. Nice. I LOVE that the seatbelt strap tensioner is so easy to use! There are 2 holes at the bottom front of the seat - the upper one has a smooth metal bar in it that you depress to loosen the straps. and the lower hole has the tensioner belt in it. Very easy to use. And comfortable. The Mico Plus, for instance, has a small plastic bar (that likes to pinch my fingers!) and the belt coming out of the one hole. I find I always need two hands to tighten/loosen straps anyway. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Infasecure Pilot convertible car seat easily fit behind the passenger seat in our car. Using the rearward facing position, it's about 2-3cm shorter than the Mico Plus capsule! Overall, this is a very good convertible car seat. Actually, it's excellent. Buy one! You won't be disappointed!

We’re really happy with the InfaSecure Pilot. It feels safe and sturdy, but still comfortable for everyday use. My little one seems settled in it, and I like that it doesn’t feel massive in the car. It was exactly what we needed when moving on from the capsule stage. Really happy with it so far and would recommend it to other parents.

Pilot has made my life SO MUCH EASIER. With the single sided tether, I can just pop baby in and out, no dramas at all. It was a breeze to install and fits really well into my car. I also love the D3O protection, it gives such great peace of mind. Would definitely recommend this seat to anyone and everyone.
