comfortably fit in the seat even with the newborn insert removed. My child would scream every time he was placed in the seat because it was so tight around him. I then had to purchase a 0-4years car seat from another brand and my child was instantly more comfortable and no longer upset when placed in the car. Personally I believe these capsules are a waste of money and are much too expensive for the very short amount of time that they are able to be used. We also purchased because we thought being able to move the capsule from car to pram would be helpful if our child was asleep but never actually did this because our child was never asleep in the capsule due to discomfort. I recommend going straight for a 0-4years or 0-8 years car seat rather than wasting large amounts of money on these pretty much useless capsules.

month old baby was asleep in the seat. I looked in the mirror and noticed she was falling out of the seat over into the middle backseat. I could see the back of her head bent over her body and freaked out. I had to pull over to on the motorway to check on her and noticed the buckle was undone on one side. I fastened it again and then continued driving. I stopped 15 minutes later to check on her because I was so stressed and the buckle was undone again! It was working fine when I did it up both times. We checked it is locking in and fastening correctly yet it was spontaneously opening. I called the manufacturer for advice and they said sand, food, dirt, fluff can get in the buckle and stop it from working and to clean it out with water. I told them there is no way any of this is in the buckle the baby is 6 months old and does not go to the beach or play in dirt, or eat food in the seat. They said in hindsight yes it is not likely and said it must be faulty and to send it back so they can review it. I told them I am sending both seats back, I don’t want them and do not trust that they are safe. The britax customer service rep said in all her years of working there she can count on her hand how many times this has happened, and to keep the second seat because its statistically not likely to be faulty as well. I asked my mum friends if this has happened to any of them and they confirmed it happened to their capsule too which is the same brand. The britax rep in store was rude and unhelpful, didn’t apologise on behalf of the company and suggested I mustn’t have fastened the seatbelt right despite using it for 6 months with no issue, even though Britax customer service admitted they have seen this before and Baby Bunting had said they had seen it once too. Baby bunting refunded both seats, britax would not. Britax were absolutely shocking. We now use maxi cosi.

recalled. Do not purchase this car seat! Others have also experienced this issue and have also been ignored. The customer service is appalling, I have contacted maxi Cosi asking for a refund via email and have not received a response. They are aware of this issue and recently pulled the product off the shelf when I went to baby bunting to check my car seat but after visiting baby bunting again yesterday to question them regarding this issue they have recently changed the fabric due to how unbreathable it is but didn't address the head flop issue with the base of the car seat is still so low. Australian consumer laws entitle me to a refund as the product is not deemed safe and I have state this to maxi Cosi. This company does not care for the safety of your child, please invest your money else where as I have wasted $500 on this car seat which I can no longer use!

Unfortunately I can’t give 5 stars because I always had problems with the seatbelt straps - when I tightened them, they wouldn’t always tighten evenly on both sides (left shoulder strap would be tight and right shoulder strap would be so loose). This problem only fixed when I got bub out and adjusted them with both hands; which was quite annoying to do.

It isn’t practical for a newborn as is sits upright and doesn’t tilt all the way as shown in the instructions. The head rest on the newborn insert is not adjustable and the baby is just slumped in the seat. Looks so uncomfortable for him. When you adjust the lever for the shoulder straps, the buckle area gets tight while the shoulder are still a bit loose. Very unsafe! I reached out to ask if they had any inserts for the seat as I had lost mine and instead of just pointing me to a purchase option, they offered to send me one completely free of charge. When I contacted Infa Group, they dismissed the issue and claimed it must have been washed with a tissue, despite the photographs clearly showing the lining falling apart due to poor quality. This explanation was inaccurate and frustrating.

Overall, I’m very unhappy with both the product quality and the customer service. I would not recommend this product based on my experience.

products, I’m always drawn to the cons section first so I can make an informed decision, so I'm going to focus in this review on what the Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat didn’t do well, and then move onto what I really liked. Here’s how my husband, my 3 month old baby and I went .

Unboxing: When I first unboxed the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat, there was no plastic wrapping or foam protection inside the box. And, while the reduced waste is certainly a plus for those of us that try to be environmentally friendly, it left me wondering if that could present issues in transit. Some form of recyclable packaging such as cardboard, paper honeycomb fillers, or compostable packing peanuts to help prevent damage to the seat, would have definitely made me feel less concerned; especially with such a high priced item at the RRP of $549. Overall unboxing and unpacking was easy, as no construction was necessary and it came with a manual and all the pieces needed attached and ready for installation. I initially found the instruction booklet to be difficult to follow. However, the QR code provides access to the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seats installation video, which was both extremely helpful and took out all of the guess work. I think the written instructions could be made clearer and easier to understand, particularly for first time parents.

Aesthetics: At first glance the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat appears to be a respectable quality car seat and overall aesthetically pleasing. The matt black polyester blend fabric is clean-looking, and the design and stitching appears to be durable and easy to wipe clean after those inevitable spills and spit-ups. The fabric on the new-born insert creases where the inner harness connects to the back of the seat in use, and while this doesn't affect the stability of the seat, it can leave the insert looking as though it's not sitting right. In my opinion it could be an area where the design could be refined.

Installation: I had the opportunity to try out the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible car seat in both my husband’s Mitsubishi Triton, and my Hyundai i30, and there was a noticeable difference. Installation in the Hyundai was far easier due to open access to the anchor points in the boot area. However, because the Hyundai’s backseat reclines further than the Mitsubishi’s, I had to extend the strap all the way to reach the anchoring points. I found that in the Hyundai I had additional space in the footwell below the car seat, but when the car seat is rearward facing and reclined there is very little space between the back of the car seat and backrest of the front seat. This made it quite difficult to to pass items through such as our baby bag or shopping. Additionally, It's definitely easier getting bub in out of the car seat with the Hyundai being lower to the ground. In my husband’s Mitsubishi it took several attempts to adjust the anchor strap, which meant having to pull the backseat down multiple times to reach the anchor point and adjust it properly so that it aligned correctly and fit snuggly across the back of the backseat. Additionally, due to the Mitsubishi being a more elevated vehicle, we had to pass the buckle strap through the seatbelt path in the base of the car seat by feel, which can be frustrating if you aren’t used to the process and haven’t developed a feel for it. My husband also found that since switching to the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible from a capsule-style carrier system, he has less room for tools and cargo as the Infasecure Pilot Ebony Convertible cannot be removed to create more space easily like some of the more popular capsule-style carriers. I also learnt that the anchor strap needs to be installed completely on the buckle side and sitting straight together all the way to the anchor point behind the backseat, which I eventually had to turn to the instructional video to work out if it was being installed correctly. My husband however found it intuitive to install it in his triton as everything is colour coded and clearly laid out on the car seat itself. I was impressed to discover that the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Car seat is a patent-pending Single-Sided Top Tether designed for practical access. I rather like that I don't have to reach over an additional tether to put my baby into the car seat. It must still be connected to the correct vehicle anchorage and tightened.

To double check the stability and make sure the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Car seat is secure, both my husband and I did the “shake test”. As we have had other car seats in the past for our older children that would shake and not seem very stable despite being installed correctly. Making sure the car seat is secure and stays in place is a big priority for us, so we were relieved when the car seat passed our “shake test”. It remained stable, snuggly fit and secure with very little movement. Even as we travelled down a bumpy dirt road, the car seat remained firm in place.

Fitting Bub in and Out: In fitting bub into the seat I have noticed that the inner harness doesn't always sit straight, which requires a little extra time adjusting the baby in the seatbelt and positioning the straps correctly so they are sitting comfortably on my baby’s shoulders. In particular, I find I need to check that the lower belt straps are positioned appropriately around my baby's hips rather than sitting across their lap. Once adjusted correctly, it appears comfortable, However, I would prefer the harness to naturally fall into position with less fiddling. I was quite pleased with the Velcro straps on both sides of the pilot for the seatbelt and anchor points belt straps, it's a very tidy and organised way to keep the straps out of the way. The magnetic points on the side of the Pilot to hold the seatbelt prongs into place and keeping the straps away is a really handy feature. Many times in the past, when I have tried to take my children out of car seats, the seatbelt straps get in the way when trying to get them out of the car seat and because they wiggle their little arms, they get tangled in the seatbelt straps which can be super frustrating. Having this feature really minimizes that annoyance and makes it smoother taking bub out of the Pilot. It's a much better function compared to the other styles of keeping the straps out of the way. I was previously using a capsule travel system, though it was handy for moving a sleepy baby and being able to put it straight into the pram then back into the car seat base. My baby has now gotten too big and heavy for it, so I was beginning to struggle with lifting the weight in and out of the car. Since using the Pilot, even though I don't have the convenience of just lifting my sleeping baby out without disturbing him, it is so much easier to lift him in and out of the Pilot. I am still managing to move him in and out without waking him.

Bub’s Opinion: Firstly, my baby prefers it compared to the capsule as he can see everything better and it's more comfortable. There is plenty of padding and protection around the baby with good head support which gives me confidence that he is well supported as a younger baby. My baby used to get upset quite quickly when he was in the capsule but since trying the Pilot, my baby seems happier and calmer in the car which is such a life saver. I like that having multiple recline positions makes it easier to find the best setting for my baby, this is really useful if you have a baby with reflux. He falls asleep in it perfectly fine and is easily accessible when someone is in the backseat when he gets upset or needs attention. It also makes it easier to see him through the mirrors when travelling, particularly when we live on a rural property and we have to travel 30minutes to get into town. If you put up a sunshade on the window, I find my baby is getting a healthy amount of mottled sunshine whilst in the car. Which my baby did not get when he was in the capsule.

Versatility: I like that it is a convertible carseat, so i dont need to buy another carseat until my baby is 4 and that it expands over many ages but remains comfortable and sturdy. I didn't get to try the low birth weight function, however I inspected it to see how it works and how to adjust it. If you lift the fabric at the back of the newborn insert, you will see multiple different slots to adjust the straps for small babies. Once installed correctly, the Pilot seems very sturdy and reliable.

The Infasecure Pilot car seat is designed to accommodate babies and children that have a hip spica cast, though this doesn't apply to my situation, but the car seat is very adjustable and adapts to different sizes which provides extra flexibility for a baby with a hip spica cast .

I have used the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Car seat just about everyday for the last few weeks, for a minimum of 45 minutes each time and tested it out in both the Hyundai I30 and Mitsubishi Triton. I have found it very easy to use and enjoyed trying it out as it has been perfect for our needs as a family with a young baby. I am very happy to continue using this carseat for the next several years and trying out the different stages as my baby grows.

The overall design looks aesthetically pleasing and looks well made. If you can afford to spend the $550RRP for the Infasecure Pilot Ebony convertible carseat for your baby, it is definitely worth it in my opinion. It is a mid range carseat, so if you're wanting something slightly above a budget carseat, it's a great option. Looking at the overall practicality, durability, longevity, comfort, cost and how easy it is to use I would recommend the Infasecure Pilot Convertible Carseat.
