I'm reviewing the older model which is just called JBL Tuner. I have two and I like them while they're working. I've had trouble with both. The first one would not charge reliably after 1 year and was replaced by the shop (Noel Leeming in NZ). A second one I bought in September 2022 has just failed at 3 years old. It won't switch on or charge.… Read more
JBL say 3 years is an acceptable lifetime and won't replace it. They offered me NZ$50 off a Tuner 2 but their retail price is $60 more than the major NZ retailers!!
The first Tuner failed I think because of the micro USB charging port and maybe the second one did too. It stopped working just as I plugged the charger in. Hopefully Tuner 2 uses USB C and that's more reliable.
JBL TUNER 2 - a good digital radio /speaker – Good DS radio/speaker, excellent sound in a smallish package, just needs a few tweaks and it would be brilliant. 1. The screen needs to be able to be selected to be always on, or off, but your choice. As it is, to fire up the screen, you need to press a random button and its on for about 30 sec or so. Sometimes you want/need to read the scroll. 2.… Read more
Needs a headphone jack, it's easy then to listen at the desk without annoying others. 3. At night the touch buttons on top need a backlight or you're scrabbling to find them. 4. A clock would be useful. That's about it. It's not a portable for your pocket, but it's easy enough to move it about the house or garden etc. The sound is excellent so, despite it's shortcomings, recommended.
Would be perfect if the display brightness could be adjusted – Bought off Amazon AU for $129 late last year. I take it outside with me all the time and it is a great product. But it's very difficult to read the display in sunlight. Would seem to be its main drawback. Show details
Awesome little DAB+ Radio – Well JBL, you have done it again. All my head phones, ear buds and blue tooth speakers have been JBL and I can not fault the JBL Tuner 2 in anyway. The sound is clear and for the size of the speaker it is plenty lound enough. The only thing i wish it had was a snooze timer and an alarm, but still its great value for money Show details
A capable little radio – This is a good little radio, easy to use, nice sound and surprising volume. $155 @ JB. Nice that it is a rechargeable battery portable. Only criticism is the display screen illumination is very weak. Show details
Awesome product! – I received the JBL Tuner 2 for Christmas and I love the product. We use it when we have friends around and at the Drive In cinemas. It is great with groups of people because it is easy to connect the phone so people can just pick songs they want to play and everyone really enjoys listening to the classic songs from the 70's and 80's. It has… Read more
great sound quality and is extremely easy to use.
The battery has great life and we have never run out even when using it all night for get togethers with friends.
The tuner is fantastic and you can tune into any station which is great for the drive in cinemas.
The review below about not being able to tune into certain radio stations makes no sense because it is a radio tuner so you can select any radio frequency.
This is one of those purchases you will be grateful you made!
Solid Unit, great quality – Bought this to replace my bulky jobsite radio and it is such a great little unit. There are a couple of negatives which I've read in other reviews, which I have to agree with. Firstly, the battery indicator is a bit lame.. it does not give you, say 5 bars, where you can easily know you're getting low. Instead it shows either full or half and… Read more
that's it.. (maybe thirds but I don't think so - I don't know as I don't bother with it because it's pretty useless). Luckily, the battery life is *amazing* so you're not charging as often and when you do put it on charge, you can still listen to it - it's a Type C charger btw and you only get the cord.. whatever. The next negative is the brightness of the display - yep, it's pretty bad.. in good sunlight, you'll find it impossible to read and need to cup your hands over it at times just to know what's going on. One final (and most minor, if at all) negative is the buttons on top - again you have to look fairly closely to know what's going on as they don't particularly stand out all that well, they are like raised 'braille' on the rubberized surface - maybe it's just me.. the good thing is there are no nooks and crannies so good for dust and water resistance and therefore longevity. Tick! Despite these preceived flaws, I wouldn't change a thing... Firstly the sound does not dissapoint. I read one review stating that the sound is too 'basey'. It does tend towards that however it's not overly tiring like too much base can tend to be (particularly listening to voice rather than music). In this case, the base acts to take away potential 'tin'iness and give an overall punchy and full sound, balancing off the very clear trebles this unit produces. It's kind of like when you hit that 'Loud' button on your old car stereo. Obviously this is not going to match it with a larger unit when it comes to overall volume, especially at this price point, but the sound quality and overall performance is really, really good and unlikely to leave you wanting more, or better, quality sound. More than adequate for what it was designed for (personal use?) and definitely enough to entertain a group of 30 people at a bbq, no probs. In terms of set up and tuning reception, again - great. Even on the outskirts of Sydney DAB (digital) signal it picks up well, usually without extending the antennae - better than every other DAB I've had. To finish off, I get about 3 days battery on the jobsite, can't ask for better than that in this day and age. The unit itself is heavy and compact, it just seems to be really well built, well designed (apart from those negatives) and just feels like a really good quality product from start to finish, albeit with its quirks. Also, I slide an old sock over it at the building site and it works a treat for that extra bit of protection from dust, flying debri and the elements in general and it still performs great! Paid *I think* about $125 on special at Big W, currently $170. Crystal clear on FM too which is a bonus as I was worried sometimes I wouldn't pick up a DAB signal but either way, the reception is excellent. I have to say this is one of those products that is a joy to own and the excitement doesn't wear off after you've had it a while - not often you can say that.
Great sound – I have this device... has a good sound...battery is good.....i got it to listen to the nrl... the device doesn’t pick up abc grandstand.....fail....I’d love advice if anyone can’t let me know..thx
