one of the best in the stable – I bought this bike for my g f but have ended up with it and it is painful now to have to sell it. I have over 20 other bikes - everything from 500s to a 1500 and this GPX is stunningly good. For its size it even beats the GPZ500S in terms of handling and relative power. The economy is fantastic and I got 33.5 kms per litre on a return ride from… Read more
Tenterfield to Lismore at 100kph. On the way up it did the trip in only 2 minutes more than the GPZ 500. It would have to be one of the best cornering bikes I have ever owned. It's a 2006 with all the characteristic lines of an 80s bike (which I like) but good brakes, an outstanding engine and comfortable. Its downside is the 16in wheels which makes tyre sourcing difficult. Streets ahead of a Honda!!

Great bike. Noisy clutch fix – Remarkable little bike. Goes great for a 250 - hauls around my 125kg easily including on the highway. Runs smoothly, surprisingly good suspension even stock. I did upgrade the rear shock to one from a Ninja 300 (bolted straight int - ten minute job) as it has a harder spring and preload adjustment, and upgraded the front springs to suit my weight.… Read more
This improved the handling as it was prone to flopping into corners because the front was riding to low on the standard springs. The standard clutch is very noisy and maked the bike sound like it about to die. Its because of the bodgy clutch basket Kawasaki inexplicably used, which doesn't have effective dampers fitted. This can be rectified by fitting the whole clutch assembly from a 2008+ Ninja 250 - the fancy looking one. You'll need the basket, all the plates, springs, pressure plate and any shims/spacers (see pics) - best to just ask for the complete clutch internals. I got a second hand clutch for about $50 and had it fitted by Joe's Motorcycles in Fyshwick ACT - highly recommended - and they said it bolted straight in. It's now silent and functions much better all around. Cost $270 to do the fork springs and clutch at Joe's - I supplied the clutch, gasket and front springs. Cannot recommend changing the clutch highly enough.
I love this thing – I bought my 1989 GPX250 for nearly nothing as a bit of a project. I was pleasantly surprised at how little there was to do to bring it up to scratch. I an 68 years old and have been riding bikes since I was sixteen and this is the best bike I have ever owned! It is comfortable, economical, reliable, easy to work on, parts are cheap on eBay and it easily keeps up with the traffic. I love it! Show details
Love it! – I got my licence on this bike before LAMS came into play in QLD. Maybe just a 250 but tops out at 175klms without touching the governor! Down side is I am only 5ft nothing, had to have it lowered by 1.5in but watch out for accelerator cable! Mine got caught on bars and tried to speed up going down a mountain around a hairpin. Great to lean into corners (many a time scrapped the pegs). Show details
great bike – been having it for about eight months now and it's been an awesome bike!!! I usually drive to work but we ride to to different places for a day or night and this bike has never disappointed me. it's very suitable for girls as it's not too heavy. Easy to control and maintain. Show details
Excellent – This is agreat little bike, and good value. It is much cheaper than most other fully faired bikes. It accelerates quite well around town, even from low revs, but it needs a bit taller gearing for the highway. It is a great looking bike with the new flame job. This bike would suit someone who mostly rides in town, and is on the smaller side, as… Read more · 2
it really needs a bit more poke. But for a two fifty, it does really well. The handling is very forgiving allowing you to learn how to corner, with out getting into too much trouble. Easy to ride, good fun Gearing
GPX 250R in England, light and easy to ride – I originally bought this Motorcycle as a winter ride and to keep my TDM850 tucked up in the garage - but wow what a motorcycle ! - I have been struck dumb with how light and easy to ride it is, parts availability is fantastic, home maintenance a doddle - Poor old TDM is going to get the boot, too heavy, lack of nimbleness and downright boring ! -… Read more · 1
give me this little 250 any-day, ride it like a pensioner during the week and get 65+ mpg, then let the revs rise at the weekend and boy what a hoot ! - this ones a keeper 16 years old or not Endless smile under the helmet !
Excellent – been riding a mates for the past few weeks. found that in the streets its good, but as i live out of town the gearing isn't great for getting home. however, in saying this its turning and ease of ride is brilliant as well as the comfort and tank size make it great for a cheap mode of transport. tank size, weight, seat gearing, chock start
Excellent – the kawasaki GPX 250 is a good allround bike, it's learner legal, it can go as good as most of the other 250's out there and keeps coming back for more, I've taken it out on the freeways and it gets up to speed easily, it just revs a little higher than a bigger bike would... but hey it's a 250... it's an entry level bike and it goes well, it has a… Read more
decent tank size (although it wouldn't hurt to be a bit bigger) it has good acceleration, it's ride height is good, I'm 168cm and can ride without a problem. it's retail price is too high, I recommend buying a good second hand bike.
Excellent – I have had my bike licence for 26 years but never bothered to upgrade to full open class. After looking around for a bike that was comfortable and able to maintain high open road speeds, I settled on the GPX250. I have not been disappointed. A high speed country run a month ago returned 20km to the litre - and it was windy.....and quick- 160kms… Read more · 1
in an hour and 10 minutes! For old farts like me the seat is comfortable and at speed the wind eases the pressure on your wrists. It gets an 8 out of ten for flickability and a 9 out of ten for city riding. If you are a lane splitter like me, you will get a real blast out of it. I would ( and don't laugh) consider it a viable tourer. With liquid cooling and an 18 litre fuel tank you will cover big distances without stress. I am a member of Ulysses and mix it big bore tourers - I have not held them up as yet and always run mid pack despite being the smallest bike on most runs.
What would I change? Only one thing. When I change the chain next, I will put a new front sprocket with either an extra one or two teeth. This will drop the revs at 110KMH by a thousand rpm. 140kmh sees 10k on the tacho.
Should you buy one - you would be stupid not to. This is the best allround 250 available today. Your pillon will thank you 18 lte Fuel Tank - Handling - Open Road Ability - Comfort No fuel gauge - inaccurate speedo - revs at open road limit
OK – i think that kawasaki needs to update this bikes bodykit to keep up with the other learner legal bikes. however, some may like the retro look.. my brother owns this bike, its his first bike and i had a go on it. very agile and feels sturdy, with good power and braking. the sound is quite a nice yelp at high rpm's too. however.. you dont feel very… Read more
incredible or enthused to flaunt it just because of how sad it looks. especially considering i ride an 07' r6 :) handles amazingly well.. but looks very dated..
Excellent – I have only been riding for a year and this is my first bike. It is an excellent learner bike since you are in a more upright position than other full fairing sports bikes. It is very fast off the mark and very light weight, easy to corner with. I still get a rush when I give it some. It does rev a little hard on the highway at 110km though. I find… Read more
it is quite nimble if you need to move through traffic and town. I am also very short and this is excellent for riders as small as me(5'6"). Big 18L fuel tank, don't have to fill up often. In the one year I have had it since new I have never had a problem with it. Handling, power, fuel tank. No fuel gauge. Gearing a little low for highway work.
