Hi everyone, I am in the market to buy a secondhand car. I have come across a 2011 Kia Rio, very well kept but has high kms. The asking price is 7.8k. Is it worth buying a KIA with high kms? Also as a first-time car buyer, would it be wise to buy it?

Greetings to you, I own a Kia Rio 2010, and I have a problem with the high cost of gasoline in the car, as I taught her full maintenance for her and she runs on 20 liters of gasoline 100 km

Melissa
Melissa

That doesn't sound right the 2010 Kia Rio S Hatchback Manual and Auto should only be using 6.7 Litres per 100 KM's and the 2010 Kia Rio SI Sedan in Manual and Auto should only be using 6.9 Litres per 100 KM's. You can check out this info by googling carsguide.com.au. I have the Kia Rio 2012 model and I can drive for 427 KM's on a full tank of fuel and back home again the same distance, and I mean I can do 854 km's return and I still have just over a quarter of a tank of fuel left when I return and I only filled up once before leaving. Look into it because theirs something wrong if your car is guzzling 20 litres per 100km's.

Maybe get in touch with Kia they should be able to help you over the phone and it should be free, unless you need to buy another key, Sorry I'm not mechanically minded.

Twice now, the 2022 Kia Rio GT Line has sounded like someone shaking a bucket of bolts under the bonnet. Was shut down immediatley, and ran normally when started again. Also a throbbing noise that sounds like a ball bearing noise from the front drivers side. Anyone else have these problems? Has done 6000k TIA

Most likely will be the sound of the cat and metal cooling down after a long run, probably nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of things, direct injection engines are quite noisy in general, but the sound you refer to sounds like rapid cooling of metal parts and that can sound like rattling or pinging - completely normal.

I have the 2022 kia rio S, different engine but I get the pinging noise from time to time. Asked the dealer and they said I should try 95+ petrol although the car can takes 91. I did and no more noise, the car also run a lot smoother. I think the engine was tuned to accpet 91 but meant to run with 95+. What petrol do you use?

How can I get the audio system code for a Kia I just bought 2nd hand which had the battery replaced and the audio system showed an error code requiring the security code, previous owner said he never had the security code.

Hopefully you have a car manual guide, from memory it has the code written in it.

does it come with the immobilizer key or not? if yes, then how I can get a new one, in fact I am using a normal key only. Thanks

The 2022 Rio has anti-theft immobiliser but you might need to call Kia if you have an older model.

Hello I just bought a second hand 2006 Kia Rio as a run about, my problem is it seems to feel like it's missing a beat and then when I drive off it seems to lack power, but then comes right as I'm driving along. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated

Melissa
Melissa

I would hope that with you buying a second hand car of that age that you would have had it checked out mechanically before buying, even if it is a run about. If it's an automatic then yes they can be a bit slow on take off and lack power especially on hills, I have a 2012 Kia Rio automatic and it is quite gutless sometimes on hills and slow to take off, but a manual should not be giving you this trouble and if it is get your car checked out mechanically and not just the timing belt, sounds like the car needs a full mechanically check.

Hi my daughter purchased a new Kia Rio in October 2020 and the engine is Pinging and they can't seem to fix it. She is using the correct 91 fuel and not E10. We've been told by customer service that there are other RIO's doing it as well and they cant explain why, it just seems to be a fault. They just said to use 95 until they find a fix but this is against the manufacturers recommendations. Were worried about the long term engine damage that is being caused. Anyone else got the same problem?

Peter S
Peter S

Pinging is most likely due to crappy fuel. Try using 91 instead of E10. The other option is that there is a sensor that is giving bad fuel/air ratios back to the computer "or" the computer has an issue.

Not Happy Camper
Not Happy Camper

She has always used 91 and never used the crapy E10. They have tried 4 times now to fix it doing engine tests and fuel samples and don't seem to be able to. The customer service department let slip that there a number of other Rio's in the same model doing it as well and they cant explain why? They suggested we run it on 95 or 98 which is against the manufacturers recommendations until they geta fix?

I'm getting like 10.5L per 100km which is not great. My Ford Escape uses 10L per 100km and it has twice the horsepower (turbo) and is 500kg heavier....if you only have had it for a short time you could try another dealer and then go to the ACCC.

John Benson
John Benson

I have had to use 95 or 98RON to try and get the Rio to run right. I was also told by the dealer not to use 91RON. From my understanding, using a higher RON will have no adverse effects on the car, only your wallet. The higher RON should also lessen the pinging. Currently getting 5.6L/100kms from the manual 1.4L model.

Not Happy Camper
Not Happy Camper

Hi John. Is you Rio a current model one, from reading about them here and overseas it seems Kia internationally seem to have a problem with the 1.4 motor Pinging and may have had for a while? What do you do ditch the car before the 7 year warranty runs out because the engine might poop itself in year 8,9 or 10? Not much of a used car Buy.....

John Benson
John Benson

Hi N.H.C. yes it is the current model, purchased late last year. This week I filled it up on 98RON from a reputable fuel brand and the engine is running great. If only the Apple car play would work :(

Not Happy Camper
Not Happy Camper

I believe there is now an upgrade for the Apple car play so that may not be a problem. BUT BE CAREFUL running anything other than 91 in your RIO even if the Service department says its Okay. We we told we could do this as well. The Factory Manual states to "only run 91 as doing other than this may cause engine damage". Is this there way of passing the pinging damage off as your fault by causing other engine damage down the track because of incorrect fuel use? Sorry to be cynical but I've discovered they are just car sales people after all!

Don't go to the dealer then. They are always way more expensive than your independent local mechanic.
