Kmart Anko Digital Hot Water Dispenser

Absolutely brilliant product for the money. Purchased May 2025 for $75, Ive noticed the price has gone up to $79 but it is worth it. The water container is filled at least 3 times a day and used 7 days a week. I'm actually going to buy another one as a spare

Flushing it out with vinegar water decreased the nasty aftertaste a lot and we really liked it but about a week in it leaked 2.5 litres of water slowly over bench and down under the stove and across the floor. It may well have been user error while replacing the tank (though it looked fine) but anything that allows for such is going back today. The min and max water lines are near impossible to read as well.
I was really hopeful with this product as it has great reviews on the Kmart website. My wife drinks a lot of tea and I drink lots of coffee (usually actual coffee rather than Nescafe crystals). Unfortunately, the water isn't hot enough to make a good tea or coffee, even at the maximum "99 degrees" setting. While I don't have a digital thermometer, it's obvious that it is nowhere near 99 degrees. I will say it is fast (as advertised), but if you drink actual coffee it will always be under-extracted. Similarly herbal teas. Another gripe is that when you tell it to stop it continues for another little while, so you have to guess when to press the button. I could live with that, but if it's not hot enough to make tea or coffee what is the point? To me (unless you like tepid Nescafe), the only great use for this product is for mixing baby formulas if you've got little ones. Otherwise leave it on the shelf and use a kettle.

I also had the previous model of the Anko Hot Water Dispenser (WH-169-6) which is my baseline for comparison with this model (KEI9016-SA). PROS: (1) Bigger tank so less refilling. (2) Don't have to cycle through options like previous model. (3) Bigger volume selections with 500mL and 1000mL. CONS: (1) Pressing the water button when it's running does NOT stop the flow immediately, but rather it keeps going for 6 seconds (I timed it). I've already had overflowing cups because it doesn't stop immediately.
(2) Water tastes foul. Before using I flushed the system with 1L of water at 99C but the water still tastes foul. The water itself is filtered and tastes good until it's heated in the dispenser. We have been using for 24 hours and it has gotten better but there's still some sort of aftertaste. I've considered flushing with vinegar or lemon but due to my other issues/annoyances I won't bother and will be returning it.
(3) It does not remember the previous volume or temperature setting, so you always have to make those selections. Even if you want to make 2 cups in a row it resets after each cup which is annoying. The previous model remembered the setting so you could press Unlock then Dispense and away you go.
(4) The child-lock is annoying as you have to press it for 3+ seconds, and there's no way to disable it. The previous model only required a single key-press, which was fast.
(5) I preferred the volumes on the previous model having 230/300mL instead of 250/350mL on this one, as it leaves more room for milk in standard and slightly larger mugs.
