Kumho Radial 857

Kumho radials on my motorbike trailer – These tyres have been long lasting and wear well. They hold tyre pressure well. I've had them on my single axle motorbike trailer (which I tow behind my motorhome so they go nearly everywhere the motorhome goes). The tyres haven't developed flat spots after the braking adjustment on the trailer changes unexpectedly. Show details
Whitewall tyres on occasional use classic – I purchased 5 of these tyres to replace the old and aged set on my 60's Dodge, bought 205/75 r 14 with whitewall, and was happy to have the load rating! Lost one the other night, vibration started and got worse, checked wheel nuts and tyres visually but all looked OK, then vibration got bad and by the time I had slowed and was pulling off the… Read more
road it blew out - severe deformations in the tread area, steel belts hanging out of tread and sidewall. A closer check of the remaining tyres shows irregular tread depth on the tyres suggesting pretty strongly I might have more problems so they're coming off...
Tyres had 3-4000 very easy km on them over a few years occasional use, some short trips, a couple of 1000 km over a few days.
good tyre – good cheap tyre for running around town. quiet on road driving . happy with purchase for the price I paid.my car doesn't do a lot of kms so these were perfect for my price range and suitable for me. would purchase again. locally fitted my my tyre speicialist and recommended by him also Show details
Didn't Get 300 kms out of tyres and no warranty – Replaced both tyres and rims on my boat trailer. I check and ensure the air pressure on all tyres for the trailer and the car are as per the manufacturers instructions before every trip. Travelled less than 60 km on the third trip on these new tyres with just 160 km travelled in the first two trips and one blew out when I'm overtaking at 100 kmh.… Read more
So by the time I stopped safely the rim was destroyed and they said the tyre was so badly damaged they couldn't assess it for warranty. So I had to buy a new rim and a new tyre (not Kumho) as my spare. This weekend I was 20 km into the fourth trip (so about 260 km the total kms travelled on the remaining Kumho tyre) and the second Kumho blew out again at 100 kmh. I'm sure they again will say no warranty even though two of the same tyres managed to travel less than 300 km before blowing out and putting me and my family in serious danger.
Good value, average tyre – I purchased these to replace cheap tyres that came with a second-hand Nissan Navara D22 DX. I am quite impressed. They are quieter and ride better than the old tyres, dry weather handling a little better but heaps better in the wet. Very deep tread and while only been on the truck for a couple of months have done about 5,000 km and it looks as… Read more
though these tyres will last. The things are even round unlike the old tyres that were always a D shape even at high inflation levels.
They are obviously not an off-road tyre and any purchase for that reason would be an enormous compromise but I see no problem with these tyres on dirt roads. Comfortable ride, low noise, good handling especially in the wet.
Edit: These tyres showed cracking in the sidewalls after 4 years of use and approximately 50,000 km. They were replaced by Goodyear Cargo tyres which have much better grip in the wet so I have downgraded the rating for the Kumho tyres.
Edit: Replaced after 4.5 years with Dunlop Cargo which are a far better tyre. The Kumho tread wore well with lots of tread left but the sidewalls started to show cracks after 4 years and 40,000 km. While the Kumho were much better than the cheap tyres they replaced, they don't rate well compared to the Dunlop Cargo. On the other hand, I expect the Dunlop cargo to wear quicker but still give reasonable kilometres.
Nice tyre - no good on gravel – I purchased four Kumho 857's in February 2011 for my Mitsubishi Triton. Initially a good driving tyre with plenty of grip and seemed okay to used off road. However, early signs of fatigue appeared after driving on gravel. Our driveway is 7.5 km of gravel and I was expecting these tyres to cope well with 15% gravel road and 85% bitumen. Since… Read more
fitting these tyres I have covered only 23 235 km and the tyres are down to the wear limit. I will have to buy a new set before Christmas, and I won't be buying Kumho again. Definitely the shortest lifespan of any tyres I have ever had! Might be all right just on bitumen but I wouldn't risk it... Good value, plenty of grip, maintained roundness and balance. Very poor durability when using 85% on bitumen and 15% on gravel. Extremely disappointing tyre life.
Good – These were on my van when I bought it and were nearly new. They don't go out of round, good in all weather and road conditions. Have had a great run with these and other Kuhmo tyre on a previous 4wd. Would recommend. Great ride, very quiet and long lasting.
