- Casting Creme Gloss 400 Dark Brown
Covered my new Ash half-head highlights
After reading lots of negative reviews I was a little concerned. I naturally have medium - dark brown hair and had recently gotten blonde ash highlights, which instead of softening my features actually made them harsher...
I did a strand test first, choosing some hair from the back of my head which had a mix of coloured and natural hair and then applied it for 10 minutes (out of the recommended 20 minutes) so I could compare the colours with special attention to the contrast.
If you are scared about the colour turning black, you could always...do multiple strand tests, increasing the length of time as you go. Happy with the result, I applied the dye to the rest of my hair for around 12-15 minutes of the recommended 20 minutes and it was perfect! I looked almost exactly like I did before I got the highlights just a little richer in colour and moisturised. I think this is an ideal colour for people who want to take their cool coloured blonde back to warm brunette because this particular brown already has red in it, which is important you're usually told to do red first, then apply a brown. This colour effectively combines those steps. I don't recommend you try it home but I did apply the gloss a week after having my hair dyed. Usually you're told to wait 6 weeks but my hair is super thick, I stranded tested first and was pretty desperate to change my colour. Be careful with your hair though - I recommend you follow instructions and get a professional to do it. I actually tried chocolate chestnut 515 and it made the highlights a purpley-red so I took a risk stepping it up to the Dark Brown.

- Casting Creme Gloss 645 Amber
New and improved version is much too dark
I have used the amber semi permanent colour for a couple of years and was thrilled to find a semi permanent colour that suited me. However the 'new improved' version is far too dark and hair is not as glossy as it used to be.The end result does not match the colour indicated on the box, but it did before you changed it. I have now got to search again to find the perfect colour. Why on earth did you change a good product? Very disappointed.
I won't get any other hair dye, but the packaging comes with one fault
My hair dye doesn't last long, but that's because I use Head and Shoulders so I don't put that against L'Oreal and I can't comment on how long it would last if I didn't use this. The hair dye always leaves my hair with a rich dark chocolate colour that I just adore. It comes out so shiny and refreshed and looking alive again. The instructions are easy to follow and I really love the conditioner. However, they changed the gloves a while back and they are absolutely pointless. I haven't once managed to get them on without ripping them. I think th...ey should bring back the old ones, or redesign them as I always end up having to use my bare hands. I think I'm going to look into some disposable ones that I can buy myself. I find this product quite easy to get off most of my skin aside from my hands/nails but this wouldn't be an issue if they had gloves that didn't rip like they used to. Despite this, I still purchase the dye because it is absolutely my favourite. I'm going very grey at the top of my head and it does cover it well, though obviously it comes out a different shade to my none grey hair.
Chestnut not amber
I'm a natural redhead with some grey. This product is not recommended. Instead of the amber colour shown, it came out a brown chestnut colour and did not fully cover the grey roots around my face. Very disappointed as the packet colour was exactly what I wanted.

Why change when not broke!! Casting 700 dark blonde NOT what it used to be!!
I have always used this product for years, but hadn't used since covid with lockdowns etc etc for about 2 years as not going anywhere. Bought new colour to brighten hair for Christmas found everything has changed? Why have you changed the formula, its deceiving when you still advertise as the same colour? Well no, it no longer covers grey? No longer (beeswax?) leaves your hair shiny and manageable, now flat and dull and much darker than dark blonde, its dull brown? Also hard to follow the changed instructions! looking for a new brand very disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

700 Dark Blonde is no longer what it was - Expect Very Dark Brown
I have been using this product for more than 10 years which is applied by my hairdresser. Just my roots gets done every 2 weeks. Now, I have been happy with it until the current batch hit the stores...the colour is now Dark Brown....please do not expect anything else on grey roots....and it is frightening how dark the brown is. It use to actually be dark blonde and very toning with whatever my hair colour was. I have also used Colour 600 in Castings to see if light brown would help but that is equally dark. The formulas have changed and it...is not accurate to sell a colour selection when literally all the shades are just the one dark brown. You should not be using a colour and end up with another or sub colours like reds....please change back your formula.

Red tinge won't go away!
It was a lovely rich colour, but it's a pity so much comes out when you wash. It would stain my towel each wash (but at least that washed out easily).
It has also stuck around longer than expected-- I dyed my hair in July or August; it is now a week into October and I have still got red tinged hair. I can see the root regrowth. So much for 28 days wash out!
I'm not sure why it is lasting, omeyimes I even wash my hair twice a day!

Did absolutely nothing. I followed the instructions exactly, my hair is medium blonde and it didn't lighten at all. I can't see any change in the lightness of my hair.

This product performs beautifully and as promised.
I wash my hair about once a week with sulfate and silicone free shampoos, and the colour lasts several months and is true to the colour on the box. My hair remained soft and undamaged after use. I previously used this product and then washed my hair with regular shampoo (containing silicones, sulfates, alcohol etc) and the colour faded out from my hair within a month (washing once a week). This may have also been due to my hair never having been chemically processed and therefore less porous. The dye performed well on my now permed hair and did not seem to cause further damage of any kind. I would recommend this product for those wanting to try new colour shades but unwilling to commit to the care and damage if permanent dye.

Really great hair colour!
Been using this colour for around 5 years now and love it. My hair is naturally grey/white and the #1021 colours it beautifully and has never damaged my hair which is fairly fine in texture. I get lots of random compliments from strangers so they're not biased. But here's the trick: Leave it on for 35 to 40 minutes, NOT the 15 the package says!!! I don't think it would colour well over dark hair.
I wash my hair every 2 to 3 days and the colour fades gracefully after about a month.
Purchased for $15.
It does not come off after 28 washes. I am stuck with this Color.
It does not come off after 28 washes. I am stuck with this Color. Please do not misguide people by advertising it as semi permanent and comes off after 28 washes. It’s been two months and I have washed my hair much more than 36 times.
What happened to the beeswax conditioner?
Disappointing that the beeswax conditioner has been replaced by a coconut cream conditioner that leaves hair DULL and such a TANGLED MESS it is difficult to comb out. The beeswax conditioner left hair beautiful and shiny. Are you bringing the beeswax conditioner back, or should I look for another product?
Weird static hair after application but otherwise not a bad hair dye
This was the second hair dye I'd tried recently after not using hair dye since my 20s and 30s. Gave it a 15 year break but now have a few greys to cover up. Well, this dye was okay - the one I used before was permanent and burnt my scalp so I had to rinse it out after 5 mins. This one I managed 20 - 30 mins before I noticed it irritating the skin slightly - so not as potent, which was good. But on rinsing it out, it really left my hair feeling wiry and tangled - even after using the conditioner provided, I still couldn't run my fingers thro...ugh my hair and had to use extra conditioner and Argan oil after I dried it. And then the weird thing happened which I have never experienced with a hair dye - when I run my hands through my hair, my hair goes static and sticks to my hands and face as if it's coated in plastic... Maybe that's what the dye does. It does look nice and glossy - unnaturally so according to my husband. And it was a bit darker than I meant - might have left it in too long at the front. It mostly covered the greys. We'll see how long it lasts. I just don't like the static thing having my hair stick to the sides of my face all the time - even after the 3rd day it's still doing it. That's a weird thing. But glad it wasn't as poisonous as the last one I tried as far as the chemicals go. You still want to do it in a well ventilated room however.

Tried to tone orange out of level 7 brown highlights
My hair is shiny and soft after colouring. The orange is slightly toned out but I am pairing it with a blue shampoo to get it where I want. There is a sizeable amount of conditioner left over for ongoing maintenance. Very easy to apply as the creme prevents dripping and even saturation. Make sure you use a rat tail comb to section your hair to ensure you get to the roots all over.
I removed a star because it did slightly lighten the roots even though it says it doesn't. I have highlights through black hair and the black hair is noticeably slightly lighter after colouring.

Darker than expected
I coloured my natural medium brown hair, leaving it on for 20 minutes. It did a good job at covering my grey hairs, didn't stain, but the hair colour is visibly darker. I hope it washes out
Purchased in at Supermarket.
I used Light Brown 600, it came as a very lovely, natural looking, rich brown colour. Very smooth and shiny too. I'm loving it! And despite the other reviews, the new hazelnut conditioner made my hair look healthy, sleek and shiny. The smell really isn't that bad in my opinion. Overall, super happy and I had lots of positive comments about my hair. I wish I used it sooner.
Not the one in this picture but Silky Blonde 801 is a beautiful colour!
The Silky Blonde 801 is by far the most natural blonde colour without it looking bleached and white nor orange. I have tried other Blonde colours in the Loreal range over the years and this is the nicest colour yet. It leaves your hair feeling soft, silky and is not a strong smell but pleasant scented when applying and afterwards. Love this product and please keep making it forever! I am a dark Blonde to light brown natural hair colour.

Questions & Answers
I put a platinum Jerome Russel toner on my hairand unfortunately it turned blue. I took the colour down by using b4 and it is now an acceptable pale ash blond. I have bought a Loreal castings cream gloss 1021light pearl blond. Will this help?
I’ve used casting for years. It last 3-4 days then immediately begins fading. Colours are only just working again after what I think was about 1 year of bad batches and weaker formulas.
Hi any views on mixing 2 diff colours? Light blonde and dark blonde? Dark blonde turned hair too dark with red tones. Am afraid oearl blonde us too white but curious if u can mix them up??
I can definitely help. I used to mix light peart blonde #1021 half and half with #801 because I felt 1021 was lighter than I really wanted. Worked well for years. Then, #801 just disappeared from eve...ry shop I tried, including the internet. I tried mixing with #701, but the result was darker than I wanted. So . . . I now use #1021 alone, and I'm ok with that. Looks pretty and I can live with it. Hope this helps you. Mixing colours is easy and trouble free. You might like it mixed with #701; depends on what look you want. Oh, and remember from my previous posts, leave the colour on longer than the package says; sticking my neck out here, but I leave it on for 35 to 40 minutes! 10 or 15 minutes did nothing much and I was disappointed. I have gray/white hair that is pretty fine. Hopefully your hair is not previously damaged. My hair is healthy and undamaged. Good luck!
Thanks for ur advice..will share how it goes, once I actually get the colour, it is is short supply in area, assume due to lock down.

What reviewers thought:
Reviewers felt that the shades were slightly misleading and the actual shade ended up being darker than advertised. However, the product is soft on the hair and skin, leading to minimal irritation.
