Covered my new Ash half-head highlights – After reading lots of negative reviews I was a little concerned. I naturally have medium - dark brown hair and had recently gotten blonde ash highlights, which instead of softening my features actually made them harsher... I did a strand test first, choosing some hair from the back of my head which had a mix of coloured and natural hair and then applied it for 10 minutes (out of the recommended 20 minutes) so I could compare the colours with special attention to the contrast.
If you are scared about the colour turning black, you could always do multiple strand tests, increasing the length of time as you go.
Happy with the result, I applied the dye to the rest of my hair for around 12-15 minutes of the recommended 20 minutes and it was perfect! I looked almost exactly like I did before I got the highlights just a little richer in colour and moisturised. I think this is an ideal colour for people who want to take their cool coloured blonde back to warm brunette because this particular brown already has red in it, which is important you're usually told to do red first, then apply a brown. This colour effectively combines those steps.
I don't recommend you try it home but I did apply the gloss a week after having my hair dyed. Usually you're told to wait 6 weeks but my hair is super thick, I stranded tested first and was pretty desperate to change my colour. Be careful with your hair though - I recommend you follow instructions and get a professional to do it.
I actually tried chocolate chestnut 515 and it made the highlights a purpley-red so I took a risk stepping it up to the Dark Brown.
Purchased in at Kmart Retail Stores for $12.

New and improved version is much too dark – I have used the amber semi permanent colour for a couple of years and was thrilled to find a semi permanent colour that suited me. However the 'new improved' version is far too dark and hair is not as glossy as it used to be.The end result does not match the colour indicated on the box, but it did before you changed it. I have now got to search again to find the perfect colour. Why on earth did you change a good product? Very disappointed.
I’ve been using this product for 10 years and literally it gave me Jennifer Anniston Friends hair colour. The new formula is horrid. I can’t even blow dry my hair after using the new formula as my hair is a better match colour and texture to my front door mat! Cleverly I thought I’d try and source 40, yes, 40 of the old formula online, but… Read more
Loreal tricky rat bags even changed the formula within the box as a slow change out so now I’m stuck with 40 of the nasty new formula even tho they put the lovely conditioner with honey in the box, the actual colour formula is changed to the new version. My hair is doormat dull brown now and is dull and lifeless and as I said, I can’t blow dry it as the chemicals Loreal is now using destroys hair. I worked for Loreal for a number of years and suggested they sell the conditioner with honey as it’s so fabulous. Some st^pid answer was given as an affirmative no and now even thats not available. Shame on you Loreal. Over COVID in Sydney Loreal switched formulas as there must have been sourcing problems but it returned back to normal after complaints so all please complain if you are as equally disappointed. I've used the old formula for over 10 years in two colours Dark Blonde 700 and Light Brown 600 without any problems however after using the new improved formula in Jan this year, my scalp is now red and itchy and I've lost a lot of hair. I usually wash my hair every 2nd or 3rd day and the colour washed out after approximately 12 washes. I definitely wont be using this product again. Show details
It's called 415 Ice Brown now. They've updated it. I only use it for my roots to cover greys. I don't use it on the mids and ends, which I keep pink. 4 = Light brown. 1 = Ashy. 5 = Mahogany. It's perfect. I use it on my 100% white/grey roots. It completely covered my greys. I follow the instructions exactly. The result is the same colour as the… Read more
model on the box. My hair feels great and the conditioner smells delicious. I only need half the bottle, because I only ever do the roots. It's brown with a slight purple ashy hue. Note. If you use this on hair that's previously had developer/bleach you'll need to leave it on for a much shorter time, or it will go too dark.

Not bad but not whats on box – I had my hair died from blonde to copper at hairdressers and was looking for something to freshen up the colour. whilst i decide if its for me or not hence wanting semi perminant. It is darker than box colour which is super misleading that being said i found that once you were a few washes in it did go more coppery that may be because i have… Read more
copper already underneath. It is easy to use and it does wash out and i dont hate the colour but if you were wanting whats on the box you will be disapointed. The colour does look different in different lights. Outside it is more coppery than inside. i just havnt found another semi perminant yet that is copper..picture below is fresh done.
Doesn’t cover greys as stated. False advertising. Shiny hair after – States it covers greys, which it does not. False advertising. It’s darker than the packet suggest too. However shiny hair after. Clearly false looking colour, not for the natural seekers. Conditioner has changed to honey aswell, very foul smell. Cannot rinse colour clear. Towels ruined with bright red dye.l after THOROUGH rinse. Wouldn’t purchase this colour again. Show details
Chestnut not amber – I'm a natural redhead with some grey. This product is not recommended. Instead of the amber colour shown, it came out a brown chestnut colour and did not fully cover the grey roots around my face. Very disappointed as the packet colour was exactly what I wanted. Show details
Red to Dark Brown – I recently dyed my red hair with 645 to even out some brassy roots which resulted from stripping out a previous colour. I have used this colour previously and for this exact same purpose. This new formula turned my red hair a warm but dark brown. This product is completely ridiculous and totally misleading. I won't get any other hair dye, but the packaging comes with one fault – My hair dye doesn't last long, but that's because I use Head and Shoulders so I don't put that against L'Oreal and I can't comment on how long it would last if I didn't use this. The hair dye always leaves my hair with a rich dark chocolate colour that I just adore. It comes out so shiny and refreshed and looking alive again. The instructions are… Read more
easy to follow and I really love the conditioner. However, they changed the gloves a while back and they are absolutely pointless. I haven't once managed to get them on without ripping them. I think they should bring back the old ones, or redesign them as I always end up having to use my bare hands. I think I'm going to look into some disposable ones that I can buy myself. I find this product quite easy to get off most of my skin aside from my hands/nails but this wouldn't be an issue if they had gloves that didn't rip like they used to. Despite this, I still purchase the dye because it is absolutely my favourite. I'm going very grey at the top of my head and it does cover it well, though obviously it comes out a different shade to my none grey hair.
Weird static hair after application but otherwise not a bad hair dye – This was the second hair dye I'd tried recently after not using hair dye since my 20s and 30s. Gave it a 15 year break but now have a few greys to cover up. Well, this dye was okay - the one I used before was permanent and burnt my scalp so I had to rinse it out after 5 mins. This one I managed 20 - 30 mins before I noticed it irritating the… Read more
skin slightly - so not as potent, which was good. But on rinsing it out, it really left my hair feeling wiry and tangled - even after using the conditioner provided, I still couldn't run my fingers through my hair and had to use extra conditioner and Argan oil after I dried it. And then the weird thing happened which I have never experienced with a hair dye - when I run my hands through my hair, my hair goes static and sticks to my hands and face as if it's coated in plastic... Maybe that's what the dye does. It does look nice and glossy - unnaturally so according to my husband. And it was a bit darker than I meant - might have left it in too long at the front. It mostly covered the greys. We'll see how long it lasts. I just don't like the static thing having my hair stick to the sides of my face all the time - even after the 3rd day it's still doing it. That's a weird thing. But glad it wasn't as poisonous as the last one I tried as far as the chemicals go. You still want to do it in a well ventilated room however.
Glossy – I've been coloring my hair with L'Oréal for almost 30 years... :-/ And 3 months ago I decided to try using their Creme Gloss line in darkest brown, in an effort to help my long somewhat dull colored hair. L'Oréal preference was what I used all those years. Wow was I impressed with this Semi Permanent! I guess part of me was expecting the rats… Read more
nest that Hem a gave me in exchange for a more natural color lol! I
It colored my silver hairs well. It did not give me lighter roots- hot roots- and holy crap in the glossy hair dept. ! I was really happy for that. After rinsing out the color, ( it's a brown puddle so be careful on shower curtains), my hair was not a knotted disaster! I could get my fingers through it! Before the conditioner! That hadn't happened in years lol! So obviously the cuticles were smoothed down and sealed well. Impressed.
It looked good for a long time. I'd say it needs to be redone every 6 weeks if you like it dark, but about a month if you have more than a few silver hairs lol.
After a month I redid it. I did notice this time my roots could have been darker. I attribute that to me forgetting not to pile it on top of my head - this makes the scalp hot and effects the color. Try to keep you head cool regardless of what color you use. It does seem to help me.
Anyway- I will be using this for as long as I can get away with it now. Or until I get bored lol

Wonders on my hair! It left my long hair looking glossy, healthy, and vibrant without any damage. The color looks rich and natural, and the shine lasts for weeks. It’s easy to apply and leaves my hair feeling soft and nourished.
I’ve been using this every 6 weeks for several years, as my naturally auburn hair has become mousey with a few greys. It’s gentle on the hair, easy to use and the colour is great - very natural. Good value for the price. Show details
This works well on my hair. I leave it on for the whole 20 minutes. Felt a little dry when first washed off but the conditioner worked really well and it feels soft and silky now. I am pleased with the colour as it is just slightly darker than my natural hair colour and I wanted it to cover grey and still look natural. Which it does. It lasts more… Read more
than 28 washes, it fades over time, still looking like nice natural shades. I bought it on special so it was a bargain.

I have used the Amber shade for approx 5 years and was very happy with the shade. The new improved version is definitely not the same colour. It's darker and more red. My hair is now 2 different colours, the old amber and the new amber which is what I used to colour my roots. I'm now looking for a hair colour that more or less matches the old castings amber shade. What a shame! Show details
Product has changed, I used to find this really good but now it just leaves my hair feeling very dry. My sister has also found the same problem. Why has the product been changed?? It's not improved it as far as I'm concerned.. Need to try and find a different product now if anyone has any ideas?? Show details
I bought a light brown dye as I have done for many years. When I put it on this morning my hair came out a very dark brown which I don’t like at all. I rang L’Oréal to complain to be told that the colours have changed and I should go by the number not the name of the colour on the packet! There was nothing on the packaging to explain the change. … Read more
The woman I spoke to told me that whilst I could complain nobody would get back to me and only if there were enough complaints would they look into it. She said that they couldn’t help and I should buy dark blonde next time which is now 600. I was very frustrated at the lack of customer care and any acknowledgment that the changes have not been communicated to customers. I won’t be buying this product again despite having been a loyal user!

Not a true semi – Lovely grey ladies do not use this product to transition to grey. It is not a semi permanent, it permanently stains your hair. True semis are direct deposit only, no developer. I have wasted a year in my colour journey and am now faced with hundreds of dollars for colour correction. And yes I tried using cleansing shampoos and Malibu colour remover twice. Show details
Black my hair is black – Tried iced chocolate and it went black! Stripped it and used chocolate truffle and it went black. I'm livid. Will never use this again!!! Show details
Not semi-permament – Applied to natural virgin hair. Chose same level brown as my hair. Is not semi permanent. It's a demi with enough developer that it dries out the hair and throws a lot of ginger tones (it has lifted my hair colour rather than just depositing a gloss). I'm now paying a hairdresser hundreds $$$$$ to fix this permanent result weeks later. Very disappointing it is marketed as a gentle semi. Show details

Not amber, but a muddy brown – This dye is not the colour it shows on the box. My hair is medium brown with blonde highlights - I have previously used other hair dyes to give it a copper/amber colour with good results. This dye is a muddy brown, not at all what is shown on the box. I was concerned when the mixture was a dark purple-brown, so thankfully I didn't leave on my… Read more
highlighted ends for very long. It also didn't cover my grey regrowth at all, and was basically a waste of time and money.
Great hair dye – Great coverage, and my hair is soft and shiny. A little darker than I expected but I'm sure I'll use it again. Recommended by my daughter who uses this often. Show details
Overrated and overhyped – I have long black/brown hair and 3 white hairs so I tried 2 bottles of the semi permanent blackberry juice. 3 days later the dye had washed out of my 3 x white hairs after 5 days any trace was gone forever, thank god it was just 27$ total from chemist warehouse but I could have invested that into a foodbank instead of a billion dollar company
Why change when not broke!! Casting 700 dark blonde NOT what it used to be!! – I have always used this product for years, but hadn't used since covid with lockdowns etc etc for about 2 years as not going anywhere. Bought new colour to brighten hair for Christmas found everything has changed? Why have you changed the formula, its deceiving when you still advertise as the same colour? Well no, it no longer covers grey? No… Read more
longer (beeswax?) leaves your hair shiny and manageable, now flat and dull and much darker than dark blonde, its dull brown? Also hard to follow the changed instructions! looking for a new brand very disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Red tinge won't go away! – It was a lovely rich colour, but it's a pity so much comes out when you wash. It would stain my towel each wash (but at least that washed out easily). It has also stuck around longer than expected-- I dyed my hair in July or August; it is now a week into October and I have still got red tinged hair. I can see the root regrowth. So much for 28 days wash out! I'm not sure why it is lasting, omeyimes I even wash my hair twice a day! Show details
Completely useless – Did absolutely nothing. I followed the instructions exactly, my hair is medium blonde and it didn't lighten at all. I can't see any change in the lightness of my hair. Show details
This product performs beautifully and as promised – I wash my hair about once a week with sulfate and silicone free shampoos, and the colour lasts several months and is true to the colour on the box. My hair remained soft and undamaged after use. I previously used this product and then washed my hair with regular shampoo (containing silicones, sulfates, alcohol etc) and the colour faded out from my… Read more
hair within a month (washing once a week). This may have also been due to my hair never having been chemically processed and therefore less porous. The dye performed well on my now permed hair and did not seem to cause further damage of any kind. I would recommend this product for those wanting to try new colour shades but unwilling to commit to the care and damage if permanent dye.
Really great hair colour! – Been using this colour for around 5 years now and love it. My hair is naturally grey/white and the #1021 colours it beautifully and has never damaged my hair which is fairly fine in texture. I get lots of random compliments from strangers so they're not biased. But here's the trick: Leave it on for 35 to 40 minutes, NOT the 15 the package says!!!… Read more
I don't think it would colour well over dark hair. I wash my hair every 2 to 3 days and the colour fades gracefully after about a month.
It does not come off after 28 washes. I am stuck with this Color – It does not come off after 28 washes. I am stuck with this Color. Please do not misguide people by advertising it as semi permanent and comes off after 28 washes. It’s been two months and I have washed my hair much more than 36 times.
What happened to the beeswax conditioner? – Disappointing that the beeswax conditioner has been replaced by a coconut cream conditioner that leaves hair DULL and such a TANGLED MESS it is difficult to comb out. The beeswax conditioner left hair beautiful and shiny. Are you bringing the beeswax conditioner back, or should I look for another product? Show details
