Lenovo ThinkPad X201 / X220 / X230

7 years and till going :-) – I have Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop. The cooling fan started making weird noises 2 years ago . I called and managed to get a genuine heat sink and a fan from Lenovo. This saved the laptop. It is still running well. I have upgraded the RAM to 8GB. Refurbished Lenovo laptops from Ebay do well as well because of their solid build quality.
x230: Amazing keyboard and battery life - except for the subpar screen – I have used the x230 for the past 5 years now and I am extremely pleased to report it has served me well over this time. Its performance is about adequate for any office or general use, and its battery life can adequately survive a day (around 7-9 hours). Great selection of ports, as well as the lovely TrackPoint and amazing spill-proof keyboard with an incredible amount of travel (which are becoming harder to find on laptops these days). You can also upgrade the hard drive and memory easily. Some things detracting from the otherwise excellent experience is the notably substandard screen, at just 768p with low maximum brightness, washed out colours and poor contrast, and a lackluster traditional trackpad. Additionally, the standard hard drive in this is, in my experience, not particularly reliable, since I have had two hard drives fail on me already, which were thankfully covered by the extended 3 year warranty. Overall, this sturdy little laptop has survived me well over the years, especially since it has been dropped and roughly handled many times. I would definitely recommend Lenovo ThinkPads.

Didn't last long and Lenovo Post Purchase Support Lacking – Bought a Lenovo laptop which failed with 14 months. Lenovo replaced it with a new one, which I was grateful for. Sadly, that laptop presented with an issue in the first 12 months - back to depot, fixed and returned. Six months later, technical issue presented, and Lenovo told me they couldn't fix it as the warranty (three years) timeframe was on the original machine and not the replacement machine. After some back and forth with Lenovo technical support, they agreed to repair it under warranty. Another six months later, same issue, and now they will not repair it under warranty as they are citing the warranty on the original laptop, despite this one being new and given to me only 2 years ago. Do yourself a favour and avoid Lenovo laptops, consider other options.

Powerful portable laptop – It is a great little laptop with an amazing keyboard and battery life. Also Linux runs with no problem at all.
The Lenovo X220 is a nice laptop, although not as user friendly as my previous Asus – Purchased in 2012 with a 3 year warranty, it has performed satisfactorily while under warranty, however failed in less than 2 weeks from warranty expiry. Contacted Lenovo,& described the problem over the phone to their Tech person, who immediately diagnosed as a mother board failure. Quoted $440 to fix, however ignored my assessment that it was simply the on/ off switch.
I reluctantly accepted the quote on the basis that if it was not the motherboard, that a reduced amount would be applied.
The Repair person arrived & was very helpful, and quickly concluded that the switch was the problem, but did not have the part. So waited another 4 days & the repair was carried out very efficiently & within 10 minutes.
I approached Lenovo to review the cost and considering it was so close to the Warranty period, that at least a refund was fair.
Lenovo have refused to accept any refund. I believe that this is unfair & am unlikely to deal with Lenovo or there products again unless they adopt a more reasonable attitude.
