Heat Relief – I purchased this from Harvey Norman during the heatwaves 2 years ago. It has saved my life. I live in a queenslander with high ceilings so it is really only good for my bedroom but that is really all I want. Yes it is bulky having the hose attached to the window but it does give me the relief I need. It is relatively quiet unless it kicks into… Read more
the modes where it needs to cool down again, but then I like some noise as I live in a noisy area and it blocks out a lot of the outside sounds. I would recommend it.l
Not satisfied – Its not as good as a previous Aircon Altise I had for 10 years. Blows the cool air up not straight out. Sometimes practically sit/stand in front to cool down. Not satisfied with cooling system. Potable and install very good. Noise is average for this unit. Will buy another system. Show details
Not bad; not really portable though – I bought this in December 2016 for an apartment as we needed something for the bedroom. THE GOOD 1. Easy on the eye - it isn't as ugly as some others on I looked at and actually looks quite stylish. 2. Quiet - not sure about 'whisper quiet' but it is pretty quiet for 'portable' AC and doesn't vibrate and shake you awake. 3. Does the job… Read more
- cools a mid-size bedroom well at night (probably not suitable for daylight use).
The Not So Good
1. Window kit - the window kit for the hot air outlet is uneven, ill-fitting and you will have to Frankenstein your window to seal it. I have it in a sliding window - it won't sit evenly. This involves tape, etc. which reduces its portability.
2. Airflow - the unit is tall and blows cool air to the ceiling area. You can't adjust the louvres to the level of the bed (where we are), and not the ceiling (where we are not).
5. Heavy - all the stuff (such as the condenser) which usually sits outside with permanent AC needs to be packed into the unit and it makes it heavy. If you think you will need to move it frequently - buck up on your spinach and have a decent dead lift in your arsenal. Don't get it for your Nanna.
Overall a good unit for what it is - an alternative for people when permanent solutions are not available. If you work shifts and want it for day use this won't do the job on days above 30. Same goes for keeping a little one cool.
Due to the weight, if you have visions of floating through your house like the tooth fairy while gently guiding the unit to where you need it - then don't waste your money.
4700 Watts with only 10 amps it must be 2400 Watts – I'm about to open the box of a Tango 16 air-con 4.7 KW, my question is: How come that is 4.7 Kws, that's almost 20 Amps of AC Current The domestics AC outlets have a max rating of 10 Amps. So it must be max 2.4 KWs that is if the unit is 100% efficient. Please explain Show details
Levante Tango - Very Disappointing – I thought that 4.7kW would cool one largish bedroom easily, wrong. Really struggles, needs to run for hours to take the edge off, is noisy, 3 speeds of fan seems to be one, fast and noisy, never gets to set temperature so just blasts away. About to complain to Harvey Normans but doubt I will get any joy there, buyer beware Show details
Trialing on 37C day – Having not had other portable aircon it's hard for me to judge noise level, efficiency, etc. I bought this unit to cool a 4mx8m space that heats up on a hot day due to north facing windows (all blinds down) and is on an elevated level (heat rises up into room) in a six star efficiency house built 2013. At 7pm the room is 29C (outside is 37C),… Read more
having switched on this unit earlier in the day, set to attempt achieving 24C when the room had became 26C. In other words the temperature has climbed slowly despite the air con being used.
It is doing an ok job. It's certainly better inside than outside right now. For sure this will work a lot better in a small room but I would say it's too noisy if you were to try to go to bed with it but no it's no where close to the attempted value of 24C.
Also the window kit, as others have said, is terrible. You may have to self fix this. I've used cardboard. The tube thickness is BIGGER than the "sealer" bits. Inevitably leaving your window with a gap open to the hot outdoors.

I have found since that trial it is best to get the tango cracking before the day gets hot. So early summer morning before 9am when the outside temperature is low 20s then set the machine to aim for 23C. This is quite effective - while staying at 23C all day is stretch for tango it doesn't rise far above it. Bear in mind I've also opened up 1 or 2 more bedrooms on top of the 4mx8m living space. In this cooling arrangement the tango 16 does pretty well.
Don't, I repeat, don't waste your money – Bought this because I thought it would be more powerful than our previous portable air-conditioner. Wrong. It doesn't cool as you would expect an expensive unit would. This is a very pricey item so buyer beware. We live in an 8 year old home so expect it is insulated, have heavy blinds and with the doors closed to ensure the room is the… Read more
only one cooling, it does not cool to the 17 degrees that it states. The air-conditioner works for about 5 or 10 minutes and then it switches to fan.
In the last few days of the Melbourne hot weather, used the unit and watched the temperature inside the house compared to outside. While the external temperature was dropping, this was not the case with the internal temperature. Any air-conditioner struggles in 30 plus degrees but when the temperature is around 27 degrees externally you would assume that the internal temperature would drop but nope, after an hour the room was 27 degrees and external temperature was 25 degrees.
It blows out cold air but the fan has only one level even though it is meant to have three levels.
Bought this machine 12 months ago and wished I hadn't - waste of money. Should have spent $300 on a different brand. Have owned 5 different types of portable air-conditioners this one would be the most useless.
These units cost a lot of money and you would expect some bang for your buck.
Most of these units only last a few years if you are lucky so if you would rather save some money and buy cheaper do that. Regret a less expensive purchase rather than an expensive one.
Dam... there is a lot of Portable AirCons out there ! – like most of you, we all try to do a lot of research, I agree as said before, not much information on this Company, I did find that there is a Twin model, Midea Tango 16, Midea being owned by Carrier AirCon group. Is this a good thing, i would say yes... Carrier has been in the industry since 1902. "weather" its made by them i dont know... The… Read more
Tango 16 looks great, Large Temp Display, Fairly Quiet, Cools very well, and low power consumption.
For all thoes that are energy conscious,
Here is an rough approximation of the Wattage breakdown, i have metered
Fan Only: Low- 37 watt, High- 43 watts
Min to Max
AirCon: 950 - 1120 watts
DeHumid: 950 - 1120 Watts
Swing: 2 watts
Oddly enough the label on the side says:
Standard Rating Conditions : Cooling 1800 watts ?
Rated Conditions: 2000 watts ?
I have not seen the Tango 16 go over 1120 watts.
And like other People have said "Dont Pay $999"
Me ? 100% happy
Pretty good, but with a design flaw – This review probably applies to the tango12, tango14 and tango16 as they are all the same just with different power (the specs have the same decibel rating too). I posted this review on Harvey Norman's site, but it now doesn't show up for whatever reason, so I'm posting it everywhere else. I hope this is useful for anyone looking for a portable… Read more
aircon who comes across this model -- I didn't find much on the internet about it before I bought it.
I bought the tango16 after finding out my local HN does not stock the tango14, so it's probably more than I need for my room size. I used it yesterday when it was ~31 degrees outside, and it cooled down the room nicely. The visual design is excellent compared to any other portable aircon. It's definitely noisier than a split aircon (obviously) but judging by the specs and reviews for other units, it's considered quiet for a portable aircon.
However, the window kit is poorly designed. My windows slide up/down, so I am placing it horizontally along the bottom. The problem is that the window kit is not tall enough for the tube adapter. This means that if you have any kind of window sill, you will need to raise the window kit in some way. When I pointed out this problem to the sales guy at HN after I had tried to install the unit, he was also very puzzled. He spoke to the Levante rep about it, who ended up buying me some timber to place below the kit, and some additional foam for sealing. This was outstanding service by both HN and Levante (particularly from HN, who gave follow up calls when they said they would etc). The sales guy even asked someone he knows who has the unit who said they raised the kit by placing towels underneath it.
So while the unit itself is very good, be prepared to do some hacking around to get the window kit installed well and sealed. Don't pay anywhere near the $999 price for the 16.
As with any portable aircon unit, ensure that you seal the window kit up well. Also, just because it works well for me doesn't mean it will work well for you. Because it's blowing air outside, air will obviously get sucked into the room its in in other ways. For me, this is ok, because it's cool air from downstairs that ends up going in the room. But even if your situation isn't ideal, it'd be better than nothing.
Best investment ever – After doing lots of research on portable air conditioners I went to Harvey Norman as all other shops were sold out due to hot weather. I stood next to this one and it was blowing very cold air. I decided to purchase it on interest free. As I have big open area this one was also recommend by the staff. It is quite expensive but it's worth every… Read more
cent paid. It is easy to assemble and easy to use. Very quick set up. It cools very good considering the open space. I would highly recommend this product Easy to operate and move around
