LG 43UN700-B (43")
VerifiedMPN: 43UN700-B1 review
It’s not the best out there, but will cater for a wide variety of office needs – This review is broken up into a number of sections that will give you the user (you) to use your preferred browser's "Find on page" function to skip to the area of interest. [The Summary] [The Product] [The Package] [The Pros(+) vs Cons(-)] [The Final Thoughts] [The Summary] I bought this screen late September 2021, after my Philips 40” BDM-4065UC (VA screen type) that I purchased in December 2015, just over 9 years ago, was repurposed by my significant other.
The intention at the time of purchase was purely for the working-from-home (WFH) during the crazy time of the pandemic and border closures. And as I normally shop online and obtain most of my computer equipment from Scorpion Technology; I decided to jump online and have a look.
Even after almost 3.5 years on, it still works flawlessly; as its general day-to-day usage is for its realestate for my WFH requirements along with light gaming through a custom rebuilt I did in 2022/2023.
I guess to a certain point, this review is more of both a purchasing review and its lifespan through the years of ownership. And based on the value proposition compared to the same place of purchase that still sells this monitor though somewhat cheaper; has a great deal to offer to a similar consumer with similar usage requirements like my own. However, this is not an ideal monitor for moderate to high-end usage for gaming and so on.
[The Product] As advertised, the product is a large 43-inch LG branded monitor that I bought online through Scorpion Technologies.
It appealed to me at the time, though I didn’t have a budget or limitation, I just wanted something that excelled in office work specifications. And this has a wide range of features within the unit, that allows you to choose how to present screen by creating sub-windows within; in order to display your applications to however you see fit… with a great deal of customisation.
I was likened to the idea that this monitor at the time, even in 2024 as of writing this, the monitor still lives up to its expectations. The monitor has USB-C, which if you’re planning on charging anything USB-C related, this has a rapid-charger, and amazingly charges my Samsung phone substantially quicker than the power charging brick it comes with by default and also quicker than Qi charging also.
This monitor also came with a remote control which has a bit of a learning curve involved. But nonetheless, serves as something extra, as long as you don’t lose it, practical accessory if so to speak.
[The Package] This came in a basic box with nothing really exciting; and felt as though I as I was unboxing a TV more than an actual monitor which was a bit strange at first.
[The Pros(+) vs Cons(-)] Like with all things we buy, there are positives and negatives.
The Pros: - 4k - IPS screen type – better than VA - level of screen customisation for sub-windows - screen caters more for business than gaming usage - value proposition is great based on price and still is for 2024 - build quality is excellent - port compatibility is excellent (HDMI, DP, Mini-DP, et cetera) - super fast USB-C port for charging - remote control (but…see cons for extra info) - has built-in speakers, but don’t expect blistering quality or performance
The Cons - The monitor has a non-adjustable height control stand (had to buy two stands to lift the overall monitor upwards) - the onboard joystick for the menu system is finicky; - the gamut colours for its built-in profile is limited - the remote control is a great edition, but there is a bit of a learning curve involved. - not designed for fast fps-gaming nor does it have a fast refresh rate
[The Final Thoughts] Based on the current selling price for this 43UB700-B model, I believe it is still a good value proposition to go and get one as opposed to perhaps Dell or other similar sized and office usage.
I bought it because the superfast USB-C charger is absolutely amazing and to protect this monitor from any unforeseen issues; I use an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and any one considering in buying a monitor or any monitor that costs as much as this or more, should invest in additional protection… because you will never predict or know when something out of the blue happens and beyond your control; that you’ll end up with a dead monitor. I’m sure insurance will take care of it, but that just takes a chunk of your time that is best suited not to worry about these trivial things.
So in terms of the 3.5 years of ownership and its continued usage to this very day, I am still impressed by this computer monitor and does what it does for me.
