Fridge lasted 10 and half years without a single incident – We purchased LG GHC-P197DPSL fridge in December 2010 as it was a relative novelty at the time (with ce dispenser and water purifier). The shop was now defunct Clive Anthonys. It lasted 10 years and five months without serious problems until yesterday, when a compressor died and we had to replace it. We also paid a very discounted price at the… Read more ·  1

time: $1,250.00, which was great extra benefit.

From our perspective, it was a good fridge that served our family well.

Four observations on the negative side:

a) Several years after we purchased the fridge, the original cartridge for water purifier changed the price but provided less value (decreased the time to replace and the amount of water it handled).

b) Replacing the cartridge for water purifier was not easy.

c) Once, the digital display stopped showing the temperatures. Power reset resolved the problem.

d) By today's standards, power consumption was high and energy rating low.

Product design fault – We purchased this side by side fridge freezer from Bing Lee about 6 years ago. It is fitted with a plumbed in water and ice dispenser which for the first few years was great. After a while the ice maker stopped working and worst still, the freezer door started to bubble and rust. The area around the water dispenser and the bottom of the freezer… Read more

door is now rusting and looks terrible. When I contacted LG they said that as it was out of warranty they couldn’t do anything about it although it is clearly a material choice and design fault. LG were very unhelpful and I will never purchase large items from them again. Extremely unimpressed with the quality of this LG product.

Do not buy LG – Purchased Fridge April 2013, which only lasted just on five years. Called LG customer care who didn't want a bar of it. LG rep was very rude over the phone almost to the point she was yelling at me. I was not rude at all just asking for my options. I was told to see their service dealer who would assess if it's something they may consider fixing.… Read more

Price of the dealer was very unreasonable, the cost involved was outweighed by just buying a new one. I would never recommend buying anything from LG. I had the same experience with an LG television. I would have expected these products to last much longer than five years.

Dies in 5 years, stay away – Reading all the reviews will never now buy another LG refrigerator. LG marketing is out there saying 10 year warranty on parts, but the fine print is what you need to read. 2 years for parts & labour, 5 years for condenser. Well anyways, called up LG repair got told to contact the local Mob. $155 to call out and $28.56 for 10 minute… Read more

increments. Sure why dont i just sell my kidneys to pay your ridiculous charge out fee's.

Bought in 2012, died in 2017. 5 years

LG Shame on yourself. I will never recommend the LG brand to anyone. Buyer Beware!

Rubbish do not buy – Meat and salad drawer freezes food stored in them and are unusable, now after 4 1/2 years gas leak in sealed unit, contacted customer care, not impressed with customer care at all, promise to call back within 48 hours, no call, spend another 30 mins on hold and had the phone put down on me (thanks Gio) Very disappointed with LG, Will never buy a LG product or recommend to anyone.  Show details

Great unit if you want a fridge that only lasts 6 years – Was really happy with it's performance until the water dispenser packed up. It was very expensive to buy and I would of expected it to last a bit longer than 6 years before things started breaking. LG said they had 2-3 service guys in Sydney but all were over 50km from my fridge so would be super expensive to get it repaired. Looks like it's getting consigned to the shed as a beer fridge and replaced with another brand.  Show details

Utter disaster – From the onset this fridge was a disaster. First few weeks of buying, doors had to be replaced as wasn't cooling properly, then began leaking, then computer board went, then flooded wooden bamboo floors, took a year for them to repair, continued to ask for replacement fridge as something was obviously very wrong with the Fridge. Nope, they just… Read more

continued to "fix" the problem. On Australia Day we came back to a disaster zone- our kitchen dining and office completely flooded. The water dispenser was just leaking and gushing out. I will attach video to demonstrate what was happening. LG are horrific to deal with and will NEVER buy LG ever again.

2 mother boards and 3 inlet valve solenoids later – So disappointed in this product. Firstly flooded my unit which was a nightmare... Motherboard and inlet valve needed to be replaced. Repairs were covered by warranty luckily... Even when I brought it the valve never worked and needed to be replaced. Now its packed it in again... Motherboards and Valve needing replacement. Do not buy – Purchased fridge 26th of Sept 2015. The water / Ice dispenser. Didn't work within first week. Lg customer service based off shore. Not helpful. Fridge now less than 2 months old making all kinds of werid loud noises. I paid 2000 dollars for a Lemon. My model gcl197 HPNL . Do not be tempted by the slightly cheaper price product is rubbish. From other reviews sold with known faults. Beware DO NOT BUY OR TRUST LG

Good fridge within limits – We've owned this fridge for 12 months and it has worked without fault during this time. The primary reason for selecting this model was the stand-alone water/ice tank as I didn't want to have a permanent water connection and the side by side layout. The fridge is not cheap to run but works well - especially the freezer. + Clean design,… Read more

functional, does what it should.

- Noisy compressor and water pump, small freezer space. The compressor runs for about 18 hours per day with light use and over 20 hours with moderate use.

The crisper drawers are made of brittle plastic and the bottom one shattered when it slipped from its runners - a drop of about 300 mm onto tiles. I wasn't expecting that.

not happy with the lack of service for manufacturers warrantY claim. LG have one authorised repairer – I purchased this fridge in February 2014 and come January 2015 the ice maker just stopped working. Called lg who advised me of the only authorised repairer in town and so I called him. He came around, that was fine. Think he found the issue in the control board, took all the details off the fridge and Invoice and said the part should take about a… Read more

week to come.... That was over 5 weeks ago!

He since will not answer his phone, and refuses to return my calls. I have called almost every day, left multiple voicemail messages and still nothing.

Sadly this is not the first time we have had to deal with this particular repairer and he does this to people over and over again.

Contacted lg who PROMISED ME they would endeavour to call repairer and of yey were unsuccessful they would authorise someone else. The representative from Lg said he would personally handle this and call me on Wednesday... Let down once again.

I tried calling harvey Norman to see if they could help, but alas, I have to deal with Lg directly.

So in summery I have a really expensive fridge with an ice maker that apparently I can't get fixed and no one wants to help me!

What's the point of having warranty on a product if no one intends on actually fixing the item. I am so very disappointed, especially after it was my decision on picking the LG over the samsung fridge that was bigger then the LG, but I liked the fact that the lf had class shelves and a drink bar.

Also water in dispenser isn't ever cold. It's just like it came straight out of the tap.

Freezer gets a fair bit of frost inside which also not overly pleased about.

The rest of the fridge so far we have been happy with. The bottom veg/nest drawer is handy to defrost meat in or help keep a bit cooler. Took me a bit to figure out how to change settings from veg to meat (it's on the inside wall of the fridge next to the drawer.

Light in freezer is really good

Unreliable – When we purchased the fridge in December 2013, the ice tray had been installed incorrectly during manufacture, so it had to be replaced. Everything worked fine for a few months and then the settings started changing by themselves. The temperature(s) change, the light comes on, the quick freeze and child lock are also activated of their own accord.… Read more

My partner was convinced we must have a ghost, but alas no such luck, just a dodgy $2000 fridge!

Have called Harvey Norman and they are organising repair.

Too much trouble – Bought the white version of this model in 2008. Had the display circuit board replaced within 6 months, then the the whole freezer door (rust) needed to be replaced. When LG were shown to have fibbed about the energy saving rating and were offering replacement or money back, we opted to have the fridge replaced (with the silver model) because the… Read more

first one was such a lemon. Bad move. The new one almost immediately needed attention to the freezer system insulation and now the led for the water dispenser has died. To have that amount of grief over 6 years with a fridge is just not right and I'm waiting for the next thing to go wrong. It's now out of it's extended warranty and I definitely have a feeling of foreboding . . . .

Great Fridge Freezer – Brought unit 3 years ago, has never missed a beat and have had to move house twice with it. Ice maker is a little messy. I have no problems with food freezing and the freezer and fridge is always being used (we have 7 children). Cold Water and ice always works. Still working well after 3 years Ice clogs up with frost occasionally, water dispenser needs some sort of drain with little kids.

Bad buy – Bought this fridge 2 years ago. Looked decent and would fit in the cavity. Ice maker replaced twice. Bottom drawer of fridge so cold everything freezes. I would have loved a bigger designer fridge but it would not fit in the cavity and at the time this was the only choice. The icemaker is poor quality. Very disappointed in this purchase. Would not buy lg again after thie issues with this fridge. Looks good Ice maker continually breaks down,

OMG is failed in its first 6 months but the replacement is going strong.... so far – Bought this new from Good Guys, it was the only fridge that would fit in the cabinet cavity and it looked good. I bought it because the drink bar was handy, and I quite like the automated Ice and water. It worked really well, until 6 months in the freezer stopped being as cold as it could be. I started to notice icecream at 20degrees would not… Read more

freeze and was gluggy like a milk shake. The coldness in the freezer deteriorated over a month. The LG service contractor attended pretty quickly once a job was logged to LG (LG themselves were very helpful over the phone). They attended a couple times and diagnosed that the compressor was starting to fail (so much for that 10 year linear compressor warranty).

Long story short, It was a faulty batch and LG got the fridge replaced pretty quickly, it was seemless, the service tech and the call centre staff were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. They organized the good guys to replace the fridge and deliver it.

So far so good, the fridge is a few months in and working well. Fingers crossed

I would still recommend the fridge as it suits most peoples budget and looks good, if you can get 5 years out of it then you're ahead because in 5 years time you'll want something newer and more aesthetically pleasing anyway, in saying that if this fridge dies again I'm going to another non korean (or china) brand. Do get the extended warranty if you can. I've also been told to avoid the one with the diamante in the mini bar door, this is the dodgy batch Looks good nice finish LG customer service were quick 1st one broke down onto the second one

Never again – Had it 'sort of' repaired under warranty x2. LG customer service took ages to answer phone and were not helpful.. Were actually told by repairman it was our fault because we had too much food in the freezer. Despite the fact the doors closed easily etc. Now under extended warranty. Defrost sensor gone. I think this is the third time. … Read more

Never Buy This Fridge – We first bought an LG Side by Side approximately three years ago (bad move) The fridge was the last white model side by side LG would make! After just under a year the fridge broke down. We were then left with the option of silver or silver with LG. The wife and I decided to buy the GCP197DPSL (Another bad move!) Since having this fridge for the… Read more

past two years the control board,(which never go in these fridges),has failed at least three times and now the whole fridge has exsisted to live! We had a tech out from LG last week who said the defrost sensor had gone,(which never go in these fridges),has failed. Since then the fridge is now not cooling! We rang LG who refered us to the extended warranty people,(ALL GONE HOME!). The wife then rang LG again, who refered us to an appliance number,(all gone home!). It seems LG don't want to be responsible for their products, and just want to past the buck! Lets see how they go with A Current Affair! It was good whiled it worked! Would never buy LG fridge again!

One part broke after only 4 months – Liked the look of the fridge but delivered with a part which wasn't standards for auz plumbing so took approx 2 months to track a part that would do the job then at 4 months the refreshment centre inside door broke in two (lg said not a manufacturing fault though I would have expected a moving part to be more robust than this especially as the… Read more

Problems with freezer - twice! – Had a previous model LG fridge approx. 3 years old and the freezer stopped working - apparently a gas leak which couldn't be fixed. To LG's credit they replaced it with the current model of the time (LG GC-P197DPSL) about 18 months ago. This week the same problem appeared with this fridge. LG tech diagnosed the same problem and LG are replacing… Read more
