Good refrigeration unit, but fails on cheap drawer design and ice-maker vs freezer volume trade off – (spoken in a whisper - appliances have ears you know) Our LG has been running for over 8 years now since its purchase in Dec 2007, with the only failures being the fridge light bulb after 4 years (replacement from Big Warehouse Spares https://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/ - excellent service, well priced) and the runners on the humidity controlled… Read more

upper & middle vegetable drawers in the fridge ($55 - $58 at Big Warehouse Spares) and the upper freezer drawer cracking and/or breaking off. Furthermore, the freezer drawer is no longer manufactured by LG (BIG FAIL LG!!) and Big Warehouse Spares is out of stock (indicating the drawers have been a common point of failure for many customers, further evidenced by other posts on this site). We liked the built in ice maker feature, the initial novelty and subsequent convenience of which encouraged our son and daughter (now aged 14 & 15) to drink water when thirsty rather than sugary cordial or juices or fizzy drinks. Of late however, the ice maker has started to ignore the sensor arm at the top of the unit, resulting in ice blocks gradually spilling over the top of the ice box and requiring routine manual powering off of the unit or emptying of the ice box - annoying in a busy household!

PROs

+ good looking appliance that rarely required external cleaning (brushed steel finish does not show finger marks or minor grime - not that we're not hygienic, we just aren't OCD about cleaning!)

+ reliable electrics - no fault in almost 9 years

+ refrigeration and freezing has been effective. Have never had ice build up in either fridge or freezer

+ easy to clean internally as drawers, ice maker etc easily clip out

CONS

- cheap plastic drawers are too fragile for their volume and WILL break if filled with heavy fruit & veg such as melons, carrots, butternut, apples, oranges

- the ice maker takes up a disproportionate amount of freezer space to the value of it being a built-in unit. I will buy a standalone separate ice maker/water cooler ($200) when I eventually replace this fridge/freezer

- lightweight brushed steel aluminium finish is easily dented, e.g. by a careless elbow or wooden cutting board colliding with an open door in a busy, small kitchen! Impossible to get anything but the most even dents out. So she looks a little battle weary after nearly 9 years in the field with teens!

- LG ceasing to manufacture commonly in demand replacement drawers (unforgiveable)

- noisy water supply valve (a bedroom adjacent to an open plan kitchen fitted with this appliance is not recommended!) Avery audible "clunk" when the system decides the water needs topping up, followed by the sound of water under pressure from the mains supply, the sound of the reservoir topping up, then another "clunk" as the valve closes when the top-up is completed. Very audible in the dead of night.

So if anyone comes across a spare upper freezer drawer (item 125A in the parts list, part number 1618855 at Big Warehouse Spares!) I'd be mots obliged if you could post it here.

Good luck with your electronic goods and may the evil gremlins pass you by,

Michael.

PS Based on other posts and considering my appliance is beyond even extended warranty, I have not bothered contacting LG directly.

A very poor unit, more trouble than its worth – Have had this fridge for a few years now and have had to replace the draws in the freezer. they can not take the weight of a full amount of meat in them. The sliders are only attached on the side of the fridge wall that makes for a weak point. If you half fill them they may have lasted. The first time the draws broke I rang LG and they replaced… Read more

them free of charge. thank goodness. I was hoping they may have improved on the quality of the draw, but I am afraid they did not. Maybe thats why they gave them to me for free. They have now cracked again and one of the sliders have come away from the wall of the fridge so will be looking for another fridge soon. Do hope there is a manufacturer who can build a solid fridge out there. Maybe a flap opening draw system freezer. Maybe better that you do not have pull a draw out only flip the flap at the front to remove your frozen items. Even a chest type. this poor quality $3000 fridge amazes me. Ice maker slow to make ice. Only good thing, it has kept cold. So next time I check out a new fridge freezer I will see how these draws slide in and out. I have had many fridges over my life time and this would be the worst. Fridge cost should have been about $400 and then I would expect the fridge to break. Hope the GM got his bonus this year. thanks Keeps cold As above very poorly made, back to the drawing board with this one.

Bad – The product is poor quality as with most today but the service was good as I think the girl in the call centre went into bat for me. I think if you want ice get a seperate ice machine and save your money, they are not up to scratch. Ice machines are only around $200.00. Nice looking fridge with removable ice bin so you can stack away extra ice for… Read more

when you have friends over. Service has been excellent, when ever I contact them. I have had the fridge for almost 3 years. It seems efficent enough for a side by side unit. Thought the unit was faulty when I first purchased it as ice machine took almost 5 days to make the first lot of ice. I was told this was normal. After some months in summer I rang again as the average time to fill the bin is about 3 days. Very poor ice machine. My older fridge freezer from another company was more efficent. They came out and changed the unit no questioned asked. Still very poor ice maker for such an expensive fridge. So have now purchase a small ice machine for when friends are over. As stated in by one of the other comments the plastic bin draws and door shelves have been a problem. 2 draws snapped and the the milk shelf inside door started to crack and come away from the door. To there credit they replaced the lot within a couple of days by courier. Fridges made years ago had a far better plastic and stronger than today. Once again the problem with cheap chinesse products.

Terrible – I have never experienced such rudeness and blatant sarcasm from a company in my life. I would really recommend staying away from this company unless you have a strong desire to have your time wasted by a bunch of incompetent idiots! NOTHING!!!!The whole LG brand has left a very sour taste in my mouth. EVERYTHING, The ice maker has broken 4 times,… Read more

Ive taken a total of a weeks work off to have the fridge fixed. The first time was 4 weeks after I bought it. It has had a total of 9 months out of 14 of not working.LG does not care AT ALL about the customer and will even mock you and be sarcastic on the phone. One manager told me to get my mother to come to my house to wait for the technician if I couldnt get time off work!!!

Excellent – Overall. Brilliant. The exterior finish is low care and the power consumption seems ok. I would buy another. Am having problems tracking down a website with a parts list though. I bought my p227stg 3 years ago and it has worked like a dream every day. It is well designed and efficient. I like the digital thermo controls - the ice maker and water… Read more ·  1

dispenser work like a charm and I love the buffet door with access to liquids. I had used solidly buiLt and relable American fridges until now and was very cynical about using an Asian product. Freezer drawers are sticky. brittle plastic on lower crisper drawer extensions snapped.. but that is a typical Asian design fault...
