LG UHD 4K HDR Monitor 27UQ750-W (27")
VerifiedMPNs: 27UQ750 and 27UQ750-W1 review
As a gaming monitor, it makes a great office monitor – So here's the thing; this monitor is actually GREAT as a standard monitor, but as a gaming monitor, it's really not fit for purpose. If LG were to rebrand/reprice it as a standard monitor for general use, I'd rate it 4/5 easy. On a still image, everything is vibrant, clear, and it has really good colour reproduction. work really well. General work use would be fine as well, with clear text and definition. As soon as things get put in to motion though, it goes steadily downhill.
For a gaming monitor, you expect a number of settings to adjust things to give the clearest picture in different situations; this monitor has nothing besides freesync (which only really stops screen tearing). This means that the image will constantly switch between a super clear image while the camera is still, and then becomes a blurry soup as soon as things move again. Add to this the terrible colour response, which means that vivid colours like reds/greens/blues will actually become super-vivid in motion, and then desaturate when still, and you've got a recipe for rapid eye-strain and headaches. Added to this, there seems to be some level of intrusive frame generation going on in the background, with no way to turn it off.
I checked the LG website for any sort of firmware update that might help, but nothing is available besides a desktop app that lets you control the settings directly there - that's actually really neat, because monitor menus are notoriously painful to navigate, but it doesn't add any of the features needed to save the monitor. The only way to combat the gaming performance somewhat is to reduce picture sharpness aaaaall the way down, but then....why bother with a 4K monitor when you're back at 1080 levels of definition?
I will say that if you plan on using this monitor on a PS5 or Xbox Series X, you'll probably have a better time of it; because those are running games that are lucky to hit 60FPS, which will fit in with this monitor's capabilities - especially at the reduced price that JB HIFI regularly runs this at ($640), it's an okay value. But if you're rocking a halfway decent PC setup capable of more than that, then you're going to need to pay a lot more than this - don't make the same mistake as me, please.
