perfect – I purchased about three years ago. The washing machine performed fairly well and not too loud. However the drying time is a bit longer than expected. So not very reccomeded for dry cycle. I've been used almost every week and no big issue found yet. Overall very well performed and highly recommended. Show details
This machine could have killed us – Our machine was a lemon from the start when it worked it was fantastic but very often had trouble with dry cycle. Last week the machine caught fire & set fire to the house this was 5am in the morning it was only by chance I was sleeping lightly. This fire could have killed us the fireman said. I hope LG Recalls these ASAP model was 9 kg washer / dryer combo wD 1298rd caused thousands of dollars of damage & mental anguish. Stay away
Great – Had this machine now for over 5 years . Washing constantly every day with family of 8 works like a champ . Drying time takes longer than expected. 30 min quick cycle is the best . Fits a massive load and washes nice & clean. Would definitely recommend to anyone with large family. Reliable Can take a little long on auto dry
Unreliable – we purcahsed this washing machine 4 yrs ago, since we have had it we have had the door replaced, front control panel, main board, the pump, now the door sensor is faulty. The dryer is useless, we had to go but a normal dryer to dry the clothes, I will never purchase an LG washing machine again. Unreliable, too many breakdowns
Good – Had ours for 3 yrs and has just broken down today out of the blue, have a repair man coming around in the morning so my opinion might change in 24 hrs. No idea what's wrong with it, no indication of any power going into the machine at all. Otherwise its been a great machine. Can wash a huge load and clothes come out cleaner than any top loader… Read more
I've ever owned. Can't understand the whinging about it not drying. Ours works great- 4 double bed sheets and 6 pillowcases done in 2 hrs no problems. Love the 30 minute quick cycle(40 mins if you want 1200rpm spinning) for beach towels and the hand wash cycle works a treat. Never used the steam setting. Pretty expensive but looks great. Quiet, efficient, cleans clothes to an excellent standard. Wont let you do just a spin cycle
Good – Firstly, the 1247 & 1248 models are exactly the same unit, except that the 1248 has a pink / champagne coloured front and the 1247 has a white front. I bought the 9kg Wash / 5kg Dry machine due to a small laundry (my old dryer had to be in the garage due to the small space until it packed it in). This unit is very handy, in that it takes less… Read more
space. The base of it measures approximately 64cm x 72cm and fits fine in the laundry. At the moment it sits on the floor, but I do want to find a pedestal drawer or stand to sit it on so loading / unloading is easier. Be warned that all the stands on the market at the moment seem too small to fit this machine on top of them. LG make one only for the 10kg / 6kg machine (part #LG LWP273W)...I may buy that one and alter some aspects on it to make this machine fit it. I'll see how I go.
The manual / operating instruction booklet is quite bad. It is translated poorly, with the odd incorrect word or confusing sentence. It also does not describe some of the features very well at all (for instance some of the rinsing functions and the different drying settings). It doesn't help that there are so many features on this machine too (it's like a double whammy - lots of features and poor manual!). All I can suggest is to read the manual as much as possible, and start playing / using the machine. It will all come together at some point.
The machine washes very well. No complaints there. It does use steam to wash - apparently it helps a lot with penetrating stains and is very energy efficient). There are heaps of cycles or washing functions to choose from such as Cotton, Synthetics, and Delicate. It does also have a Hand-Wash cycle (meant to be very gentle) and a Quick 30 (my favourite as it washes in about half an hour...drying though is anywhere between 1-2 hours) and is good for clothing that has been worn but not particularly dirty. It does have a Steam Refresh function which last for 20 minutes to de-wrinkle and deodorise up to five items of clothing at a time. I haven't used this function yet, but apparently it is designed for the odd shirt/pants that may be clean and lying around (using this function will help iron it), or otherwise you can use it if a shirt/pants have been worn but is pretty clean (so can be freshened up and worn again).
Just so all you prospective buyers know, the following is possible whilst using this machine:
*Wash, Rinse & Spin
*Wash, Rinse, Spin & Dry
*Rinse & Spin
*Rinse, Spin & Dry
*Dry only
It seems from other reviews, both on this site and others, that people are having difficulty with the drying component of these combo machines. This unit is a condensing dryer, so it uses some water (yes that's right, it uses a bit of water during the drying cycle - which seems to a bit of a LG secret. Fancy a dryer USING water!) and the heating element evaporates the water from the clothes into a condenser...collecting the water and draining it away. To date I've found the hardest item of clothing to dry so far is towels. I have always used the highest setting for drying towels. With four towels that makes the drying cycle last 3 hours (sounds a bit rich but these units are meant to use less power than conventional dryers) and whilst the towels initially feel HOT and slightly DAMP when they come out, within minutes they seem completely dry. From all my reading, the "Normal" dry setting is for socks / jocks / t-shirts / hand towels / bath matts and the "More" dry setting is for jeans / thick jumpers / towels. I mean the machine has a moisture sensor inside it to detect how dry the clothes are, and if they aren't by the nearing of the cycle, it simply adds another 30 minutes to the drying time. Pretty handy I suppose.
Overall, this machine is very costly in my mind but saves space, washes well, and is reliable. Regarding appliances, I always try to purchase quality - I am sure you do get what you pay for in most instances. Despite the big outlay of cash for this washer / dryer combo, I am pretty happy so far. Washes clothes very well. Quiet. Reliable. Apparently uses less electricity. Pretty good water consumption. Looks pretty. Drying cycle does take a while (but DOES work).
Do need a degree in Washing Machine Operations to work it.
Cost: Let's face it, quite expensive.
Good – To get the most out of this machine you must be very competent in using it and knowing what works. the manual is not much help but the left handed zwahili brail is decipherable if you break it down and mix it with a bit of trial and error. The performance is great minus the long drying time but if you have it run over night then you have no… Read more
problem however after 2 years of use i dont think the performance matches the price tag. It is apparent that you pay an additional premium for the space saving benefits as a seperate front loader and condenser dryer combo could be bought for up to $500 less yet deliver the same results in a quicker time. If you dont have much available space this machine is worth the cash but if space aint an issue id go for a seperate washer and dryer and save some cash and time. overall I am pleased with this machine and two years of trouble free service is hardly anything to whinge about now is it? Looks great with lots of functions. Cleans clothes to a standard I havent seen before EXCELLENT. very cheap to run and uses bugger all washing powder As stated the drying function. IT DOES WORK! although it can be difficult RTFM! do not put 9kg of stuff in and expect it to come out dry. it is a 5kg dryer and it does 5kgs well, just takes a bit more time that what may be convenient.
Dont buy it unless you are looking for an anchor – it is a replacment machine for another model i had that blew up only after 2 weeks of owning it this one seems to have a door catch that is out of adjustment and the large control knob on the unit appears to be loose. When drying it seems to make loud metal on metal sounds (great for somthing that they installed into my laundry room not 24 hours… Read more
ago) LG rep was hopeless and i had to end up talking to his manager to get the previous unit replaced who was very helpfull but alas this one is rubbish too. Will never ever ever buy another LG or LG manufactured Product AGAIN. Looks good in laundry it doesnt work properly
Excellent – Still love this machine. Very happy and surprised that after 2yrs of non stop use we have had no problems. I love my machine. It runs at least once every day and has never missed a beat. Clothes always come out clean and fresh. I like all the choices for various wash cycles. Never really use the steam function but use the "medi rinse" and hot… Read more
temperature washes. Great for a family with kids who make mess. Love the size too. Won't be able to go to smaller size now. Dryer takes a really long time. Very annoying that the child lock does not prevent them turing it off mid cycle. You have to restart the cycle, very frustrating if it has been going for 2hrs.
Terrible – Do NOT purchase this washer/dryer combo. From the first day the thing leaked from the back somewhere and advice from LG was to make sure the fittings were tight. The think everyone is a fool. When the leaking hose hot water hose finally blew and saturated the entire laundry, swelled all the cupboard timber, LG informed me they would send repair… Read more
man out which they did however they were not responsible for the laundry fittings and fixtures due to their guarantee limitations. When the repair man came out he already had a new hose and fixed it in 2 minutes as he had "fixed several of these before with the same problem" What about a product recall or sevice notification LG? I spent $1,700 omn the washer and $3,000 to fix up my laundry bucause of this unit. On top of all that, it takes over two hours to dry 3 T Shirts and 5 cotton shirts and even after all that, they were still damp. As far as i am concerned LG stands for Low Grade, so stay well clear of this product. Good capacity, neat looking Dryer is useless, lack of manual cycle options
Good – Great machine, night time operation is very quiet and doesn't bother my 2 year old daughter who's room is only 5 metres away. The wash / dry combination is great for when the weather is bad and means your never waiting on clothes to dry. Initially expensive but it hasn't missed a beat and is well worth the money. Washes and dries very well, and is… Read more
quiet enough to put on overnight. Bakes on fluff under the rubber door seal from wash / dry cycle which is hard to get off.
Excellent – Excellent Machine from LG, in this market currently all machines that are selling very commonly such as Samsung, Electroluc, Fisher&Paykel, LG Leads the race by a mile. Their Direct Drive Motor system is the most advanced and most reliable PLUS it comes with 10 year Gaurantee. Very Quite, Very Sturdy, Quick and Efficient, And Great Wash with excellent Features. Worth every dollar spent. Very Pricy but good quality! No other problem so far.
OK – Great as a washer, however, dont buy it as a dryer as it doesnt. If i could buy as a washer only and save the money for the dryer, i would buy again. Big Load Doesnt Dry

Excellent – I have owned one for eight weeks now and I am very happy with it. some old white shirts that had the old collar stains have even cleaned up and I am wearing them again. super quiet and fun to use. I am amazed at the wash results I am getting from this machine. It is so nice to also not have a clothes dryer pumping hot air into my home as well,… Read more
with this machine doing both at once.
Would have loved one of these years ago when we had more people living at home. This machine is quiet and very efficient. Haven't found anything I dislike about it yet
Terrible – The machine blown my house fuse on first use, then totally dead. LG Engineer came and found that the Main Board has blown up and had to be replaced! This machine is not in merchantable quality considering the premium price. If you still want to take your chance, buy from a reputable store retailer in case if something bad happens. markjohnson@trashmail.net Big Size, Looks Good Broke on First Use, Bad Manual
Excellent – This is a great machine hiding away in my small laundry quietly working hard for me, 18 loads a week and everything cleaner. Have owned it for over a year now and am still facinated by all the lights and buttons, guess I am just like a big childish moth, but I still love using it. oh I only use half recommended powder dose and this certainly does… Read more
