Lion 12V Cordless Car Kettle
1 review
It takes quite a while to boil but does its job – I purchased this kettle as new from a couple who used it twice but thought it took too long to boil. The Lion LA527B model number covers a number of different kettles, this is the White kettle with the translucent blue lid (it has since been superseded by a newer model with lower power). To boil 600 ml of water from 20C to boiling with this kettle takes 30 minutes.
It is rated at170 Watts which draws 15 Amps from your battery at 12 Volts using a cigarette lighter plug. Keep in mind that a typical cigarette lighter socked is rated at 10 Amps so this unit may require larger wiring to your cigarette lighter socket or fuse or both.
The later kettles with the same model number (silver with the black lid) are rated at a lower 125 watts (10 Amps), these are more suited to a cigarette lighter socket without modification, but will take approx 50% longer boil for the same amount of water.
To put the power consumption into perspective, boiling 600ml of water 4 times uses the same amount of power as my Waeco CF50 fridge does in 24 hours at days reaching 40C. If you are camping and struggling with your fridge battery going flat, this is probably not the product for you.
If you have the battery capacity, and have a good way of charging your battery, this item can save a lot of gas when heating water.
