Would not reccomend – $400.00 toaster from memory. While it worked It was ok, after 6 years 1 Quartz element failed, took it to the not so local authorised repairer and was told that a new element was $150 and he could not guarantee that it would fix the problem as it may be the motherboard. Would not purchase or reccomend another Magimix product again. Show details
Why aren't all toasters like this? – I love this toaster! I have it on a wire shelf at eye-level so I can gaze at the wonder of toast browning before my eyes. Not only is the see-through feature indispensible, it's also very calming to watch. It is large, heavy, well made and attractive in a classical way. I think H.G. Wells would have visualized this as the toaster of the… Read more
future. Mine is the stainless model and is very fine. In contrast to other 'stainless' units I have had, the case does appear to be made of all good quality stainless steel and no aluminium or plated steel panels. I have had it several months and it shows no sign of corrosion. The front knob and buttons are plastic but the side lever knob is steel. The plastic appears to be good quality however and is not so far showing any deterioration at all.
The buttons are illuminated when activated and provide useful functionality. I regularly use the frozen-bread button. Tbh I don't know what the others do - I guess I should look that up!
It toasts quite evenly but is apt to preferentially darken the edges of the bread. That appears to be a practically unavoidable consequence of positioning the elements such that they don't obscure the line of sight. However I haven't found this to be substantially problematic - the effect is not that pronounced and is outweighed by it's other good qualities.
It was pretty expensive so I was hesitant to buy it but I'm very glad I did. If you shop around you can get better than RRP. I'm not sure what model number mine is as I can't find it anywhere on the box or unit. However I would expect they're all pretty similar.
bought in 2006..... still working beautifully – As a believer of paying for something that lasts a long time, I bought this toaster 10 years ago when my daughter was in Year 4. I copped a lot of teasing and good natured ribbing due to its price at that time. My daughter is now at First year uni and the toaster is still working well and repaid the pleasure of its use multifold.
FANTASTIC (and not discontinued) – This was an expensive purchase, but hey I just spent a fortune on a new kitchen and the toaster stays out on the counter all the time in our house. So it looks great. Keeping it clean is a breeze. There are two elements inside the toaster, not small wires that glow red but full on elements. They heat up and almost bake the bread until it browns.… Read more
What you then have is a beautifully crunchy piece of toast. I don't know why product review says this is discontinued because it isn't as far as I can see. The warranty is 3 years on parts 1 year on labour. Mine is only 6 months old so can't speak on warranty claims and service as my toaster works perfectly.
Do not buy! – Sadly I wrote the first (and glowing) review of this toaster but now find myself wishing I'd never bought it. Within weeks of the warranty expiring, it stopped working. I took it to a Magimix service agent who, after 4 months, cannot repair it. They have told me I should throw it away and buy a new one "because even at $500 it'll be cheaper than… Read more
repairing it". Magimix's distributor also needs to choose its repair agents more carefully - the one referred to on their Web site has closed their retail shop and is operating out of the owner's garage.
It's a love hate thing – I love the toast thats made, perfectly browned, dry and crunchy, just the way I like it. The trouble starts when I try to toast more than the first two slices. It pops up after a few seconds, before even warming the bread. I have ro wait too long before the toaster is ready to cook again Useless for a family! I love the first set of toast. It takes too long to reset for the next set of toast.
Unique – Who doesn't love to watch their toast cook, so ok this toaster is a little fancy... and maybe extravagant but worth it. Not looking at the visual appeal, I haven't had a single issue with this toaster. Its wide and allows you to fit lots of bread into your toaster including bagels. I was very pleased.
Expensive Lemon – I had hoped that the price of this toaster would be an indication of the quality of its design and construction. Unfortunately I was wrong. The long cradle that the toast sits on is very flimsy and jams. Given the price of the unit, I am surprised that this component is of such poor design. The side windows are useful to determine when toast is… Read more
ready, however the placing of the heating elements tends to burn the crusts before the surface browns. Side windows Flimsy, poor quality components
I agree with idridley, I freeze my sourdough and while it is a way cool looking toaster - it burns… Read more
Kitchen Beauty – Bought this beautiful toaster in London after falling in love with the design while on holiday. I find it toasts all bread very well. I use it mainly for thick hand cut heavy breads (rye, german multigrain, sourdough etc.)and am very satisfied with the results. It has a wide slot which accommodates these thick slices and i also find it cooks… Read more
crumpets very well.
On occasion I have used frozen bread and it toasted this very well. Cleaning is also very easy with the sides opening for easy access. After two years of daily use the toaster looks like new. Design, wide slot.build quality. The price is not great.
