Useless – Chain tensioner is the weakest part a little plastic nipple which in nz costs $85 to replace.why makita would u build a chain saw with a $3 part, I wouldn't recommend this chain saw. Show details

Waste of Money – It's a rubbish product from top brand. Used once to cut 50mm branch and next time it wouldn't cut anything. What a disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. Show details

Not a rugged saw – Tensioner broke after a few uses and product was replaced free of charge. Tensioner broke again, after a few more uses, out of warranty, so I fitted a third party replacement tensioner. After a few more uses, there was a cloud of smoke and the motor burnt out. that they didn't know, it being dependent on how busy Makita is.

The chain is tensioned by a small plastic pin which fits through a hole in the chain bar. When a thumb wheel is turned, the pin moves back and forward. It is flimsy and has no hope of withstanding the forces exerted, during normal use.

I don't want the machine fixed, as it will only break again. I have wasted 120km of futile driving today, picking up the product and returning it to the hardware store. I want a full refund.

Half my day is gone and I have achieved nothing. Any company who offers such rubbish on the market should be banned from bringing goods into Australia.

Rubbish – Couldn't cut anything. Firstly the chain was siezed when I first fitted it. Took it back and had to buy a new one because they said the chain was not under warranty. Next day the tensioner broke after 15 minutes use. Store sent it back to be assessed by Makita. Useless, not fit for purpose. Show details

Love it! – Bought to trim some trees in a suburban block, ended up filling 2 x 6m3 skips with trees and branches. Didn’t miss a beat, never overheated. butter. No tools needed to change chain or clean the drive gear. Being mains powered it’s quiet, no smell, no waiting for batteries to charge, just plug in and go. Just saw another review, if you couldn’t work out that it wasn’t working because the chain was in backwards, so you really think you should be using a chainsaw?

1st one died 2nd one going strong – My first one burned the chain bar almost immediately - the gap the chain runs in was too narrow. Exchanged at Bunnings The 2nd has done about 3 tonne of dried gum, some Sugar Gum, some spotted gum.. still strong. Ideal for suburban backyard firewood prep as it much quieter than the Stihl I take into the bush.

Light duty only – After using for 5 days the chain bar split at the end separating at the wheel, bought another one, this did the same after a week. Not suitable for heavy repetitive work only light moderate work. Would not buy one again until a heavy duty model is released, stick with the petrol models. Make sure the chain is assembled correctly before use – Bought it two years ago assembled at Bunnings. On the first use The chain came off. Tightened chain again, it would not cut and chain came off again. Recently a friend said to check the chain as he knew of others that had them and the chain was assembled back to front. Yes- the chain was put on the reverse way. Please check before use, as this can be very dangerous.  Show details

Awesome little chainsaw! – Been using this saw for over a year and it's awesome. Hasn't missed a beat and it's so easy to use and handle. Just finished cutting through ironbark 200x200 posts and it made life super easy. Not as fast a petrol but a hell of a lot easier to use.  Show details

Weak chain tensioner will need replacing constantly – It's probably an OK electric chainsaw except for the weak chain tensioner. Power is okay and it cuts branches like you would expect from an electric chainsaw. However you can pay less for a better electric chainsaw. Don't bother paying more for the Makita brand on this one it's not worth it. This is the same chainsaw as the UC3541A but with slightly longer bar.

Makita uc3541a – Ok chainsaw cuts easily, downside flimsy chain tensioner broke, the tiny metal bar tensioner is very brittle, easy to break, other issue , with chain correctly adjusted the chain will completely jump of the bar if the going gets tuff so ill stick with the gass powered version from now on, much more robust and without the chain issue, that has never happened to me before, annoying.
