Maxwell & Williams Vivacious

Breaking in microwave – Two of my plates have broken in the microwave after being microwaved for 1 minute or under, I have had my plates for about 1.5 years now, it seems that the havnt beem fires in the kiln at a high enough temperature, meaning they are still slightly porous and have absorbed water over time causing them to heat up more then the food and break. Also when I did purchase them, the prints weren't all centered. I wouldnt buy Maxwell William's ever again.
Maxwell & Williams Pepper & Salt Mills – The Mills are under a lifetime warranty however after several phone calls, several emails, emailing them all the information including photos of the Pepper Mill requiring replacement and Customer Service stating they had posted out a Set on 2 occasions, no Set has ever arrived to my address. One of the Sets was supposed to be sent to me via… Read more
Express Post. I've been chasing this since 2nd January 2019 and I'm being given the run around. Customer Service state that they have responded to my emails however I have received only a couple out of several. Extremely bad service under warranty.
Love the design, but terrible quality – I absolutely love the designs and colours of this mix and match range. So disappointed in the quality. In winter thermal breakage has been a big problem when hot porridge or even warm porridge is put in the breakfast bowls they tend to break in half. Luckily I had bought a few dinnersets when they were discontinued and ended up in the bargain… Read more
shops (I think due to quality issues). So have noticed the plates are not of even shape - you can see it when they are stacked. The pattern is off Centre on some plates. I wonder if these were not made in the usual manufacturing plants as the earlier Maxwell & Williams ranges. I notice lots of similar review for this “Vivacious” range and also the “Kashmir” design dinner set (another design I just loved) that seemed to have similar issues.
Love to purchase more – I've had my set for about 4 years and would love to add to my collection. So surprised that others haven't been able to use mine in the microwave. I use mine in the microwave all the time. I have the set with the orange back so wondering if the problem is with different colors???
Not microwave safe – I too have had four pieces catch/ shatter in the microwave. And like a lot of people on this site have said, I had no idea about the problem (as it is stamped microwave safe) until I google to try and find replacement pieces. Surely Maxwell Williams should be refunding us. I still have the shattered pieces.
Cracked in half then found a dozen of reviews with the same problem – I had a take away pizza for a dinner and just heated it for 30secs then another 30secs on a vivacious plate. Took it out put the dish on a tray, then with a loud bang it split in half.. I have never experienced or heard of anything like this and googled about it and there we go found a dozen of reviews saying the same thing. This can be seriously… Read more
dangerous and I had it right next to my baby's food on the same tray.. It does make me concern about using the rest 15 pieces of the Vivacious set. As I cannot take a risk due to the baby I will have to put them away.
Complaint – My two cashmere dinner sets have black marks all over the surface and Myers told me it is Finish dishwashing powder problem. Others I have spoken to have had the same problem. Not buying again.
Vivacious range is not microwaveable – The Maxwell Williams range says it can be used in the microwave but this is incorrect. I have had several pieces crack in the microwave. Also the painted pattern chips off easily. Not happy Jan!
NOT microwave safe – I bought enough individual pieces to make a whole dinner set and am very disappointed. These plates are NOT microwave safe - I've had several crack! I'll not be purchasing this brand again. Look good but not safe to use.
Obviously not suited for microwave – I also have had 2 plates and 1 bowl break into pieces when placed in the microwave, very disappointing especially when it was sold to me as being able to be used in the microwave. I would still like to buy 2 dinner plates but not sure where I can purchase them, plus worried any microwave use is going to mean this problem continues.
I Did so love my pink vivacious dinner set but worried now – Looking on this site to replace a large dinner plate that made a very loud bang while my husband was eating off it and broke cleanly in two. It had never been in a microwave or under any other duress. I didn't realise until I went on this site that it had happened to other people. Bit worried now about maxwell Williams items. Can't understand what happened as I am a potter and understand about thermal shock but this wasn't the case.
Gorgeous design - Rubbish quality control processes – I bought a large collection of mix and match pieces recently on sale from Harris Scarfe. Lucky for me they were clearing them at greatly discounted prices. True to form, as already described by previous reviews, a side plate cracked in the microwave in the first weeks of use. I returned it to Harris Scarfe and the $2 plate was replaced easily from… Read more
the remainders stock left on the shelves. Some months later, due to minimal use, tonight I pulled a soup bowl out of the microwave, I started eating and within five minutes heard a loud crack - the bowl was cracked right through the middle. The reason I'm writing this review is because I wanted to see if others had experienced similar quality issues. The price sticker is still glued to the bottom of the bowl. I'll be off to Harris Scarf this week to see if there are any leftovers available for a replacement.
Terrible customer service! – I bought 2 sets of these 3 years ago for my mother-in-law as a Christmas present. They are so pretty and very much her taste. Within the space of 6 months, 3 dinner plates broke while someone was eating off of them - fresh hot food had been put on the plates, and while the person was eating it just cracked in two right down the middle. A plate… Read more
that can't even have hot food on it?! Doesn't that just defy it's basic purpose?! I contacted Maxwell & Williams using their website after about 18 months as more plates broke this way. All the bowls and cups are still in tact, just the dinner and bread plates kept breaking! 12 months after making my complaint, I'm still waiting for a reply from Maxwell & Williams...

Not so Vivacious – I bought 3 x 16pc sets - purple, blue and orange. They are so pretty. I only started using them at beginning of June and wish that I had kept my old 12pc set which I'd had for 6 years. Of course, after buying them I read the reviews! Tonight our first entrée plate decided to split into two pieces - thankfully it was on the table - luckily the… Read more
food stayed put and no mess was made. Now I'm terrified to use the blooming things. Some of them have been in the microwave and I suppose that by now all of them have been through the dishwasher. I've sent off a customer complaint to Maxwell & Williams Australian representative through their website. Only time will tell. Not happy Jan!
M&W contacted me and sent 3 16pce sets of my choice immediately. Very happy with this outcome. :o)
Plates that don't like heat – Three plates broken due to heat. Was there no quality control? I purchased two dinner sets and i'm pretty unhappy. Wish I'd read these reviews first.
Not worth the money – Bought 2 dinner sets 2 weeks ago and have lost 2 dinner plates due to heat. One in the microwave for only 1 minute and one after serving vegetable lasagne on. And entree plate has chipped already. Awaiting a response from M & W.
Poor Quality Control Maxwell Williams – Thought I would treat my self to some new dinner ware. Local kitchen store had the vivacious on special so decided to buy 2 x 20 piece sets. Before leaving the shop all the pieces were checked behind the counter out of view by me. Unpacked the 2 boxes at home and found many faults. 1 bowl had a large crack to the rim and it had been touched… Read more
up obviously in the factory, many of the other plates had scratches to the coloured rim and white centre, one rim had a rough edge that broke away when touched, pit marks and under one plate missing glaze and the label was barely there. Took the faulty ones back to the shop and was told that they were all checked before leaving. Obviously not too well as the touched up rim would have stood out but got passed. Asked if they were seconds and was told M & W don't sell 2nds. Was given replacements but these also had some scratches. Told to take it up with M & W. Haven't even used them yet and have probs already.
Not very good – The set is very pretty. I have two pieces of each colour so I have an eight piece dinner set. 3 of the plates have shattered from heat, 2 of them in the microwave and one of them on the bench when I put hot food on it. Maxwell and Williams did replace these however. Now the mugs I have the handles are moving slightly and sound like they are… Read more
cracked so its only a matter of time before they break. They are a very pretty pattern They are of cheap quality and keep breaking. No quality control on this product
