Maytag GZ2626GEKBSU

Initial issues resolved under extended warranty, now it seems to keep running without further issues – Damper failed whilst under extended warranty. Thankfully the fault was fixed without out of pocket expense. It's still working 100% and now more than 15 years old. The plastic see thru panels on the door pockets are fragile, and one broke due to people pulling on them to close the heavy door. These door pockets are no longer orderable. I still… Read more
do like the look of the fridge, and am happy enough with it, however, like anything man made, eventually something else will break on it.
Don't buy – The replacement fridge has now failed - compressor main board and defrost unit all failed cost of repairs approx $1700. After 18 months of haggling with Maytag (Whirlpool) they supplied a replacement guess what the same as the other customer a smaller version and the warranty carried over. I guess I could go downs the consumer affairs road, but to… Read more
what avail, more aggravation on my part. I will take my "revenge" by writing as many poor reviews as possible to let unwary consumers know these fridges are nearly all lemons.

sixth call for repair - compressor motor needs replaced, etc...$1200.00 plus call out quote to repair...
pity - it was great between repairs - nice and solidly built - quality drawers - robust ice maker, etc....but the repairs.... replacing it and not even considering another maytag.... too many repairs... solid, good quality, door hinges - door opens within width of fridge, great ice maker water filter leaked - finally stop using it and kept cup underneath to catch drops, and all the repair call outs/expense
Good – My wife and myself really liked the look of this refrigerator. We bought ours brand new and were very happy with it. The water filtration system uses a cartridge that filters out a lot of things, not just a basic filter like the ones you find in Britex water jugs. After about 3 years of use, there was a buzzing noise that became more and more… Read more
prolonged to the point where it was *constantly* buzzing. The repairman replaced the damper unit, which is located at the top left rear corner of the refrigerator. The problem did not go away so it was replaced again. Same situation. The fridge was getting comments from guests about the noise levels, so we were really vexed by this problem seemingly unresolvable.
On the third attempt at fixing the noisy damper issue, they replaced the temperature control board as well as the damper unit. This truly fixed the problem. My conclusion is that all along, it was some kind of issue with the control system, rather than the damper itself. A case of misdiagnosis.
The fridge is super quiet again. We absolutely love it (again)!
My recommendation is to buy extended warranty when buying a Maytag refrigerator. Coz you may well need it! Stylish design, looks good in our kitchen. Ice making compartment robs a lot of space in freezer section. Water filter cartridges are expensive in Australia (reasonable in the USA).
Terrible – Don't buy Maytag - poor quality and poor customer service! When you complain and ask to be contacted by the manager - they say 'sure someone will ring you in 48 hours - cos we're busy you know!!' With three teenage kids, I liked the promotion of the product that it was used by the US Marine Corp on its ships. I figured if it was tough enough for… Read more
the marines it was tough enough for the kids! The first fridge was purchased in 2002 for $8000.00. It broke down repeatedly until in 2006, Maytag finally agreed and decided it was a lemon! They would replace it - but guess what the old fridge was no longer in production, so I had to make do with a smaller fridge still worth $7500. Yep you guessed it - still on foing problems until finally the compressor gives up and dies. Maytag says to bad - you're out of warranty because your warrant carried over from the 1st fridge - you don't get a new warranty with the changeover. After much harranging - they decided to provide me with a new compressor - but I had to pay the labour costs. That was last year in July. Guess what the compressor has packed it in again. WIll they fix it - no!! Too bad that I gave them $8000.00 for a lemon and they replaced it with a lemon!! This one's going by the side of the road with a large sign saying - don't buy MAYTAG!!
