Purchased a 2015 GJ Series 2 Touring Wagon. So far car has been hassle free. There is a couple of issues that need rectifying which are well documented on Mazda forums. My speakers distort if the volume is high and this is due to a factory problem with the amplifier which is apparently not expensive to rectify. The other problem is the infotainment… Read more

screen is delaminating which once again is a manufacturing issue. It is great to drive very economical for a 2.5 litre petrol and the transmission works well. For $15000 with 125000ks on the clock it is better value and better equipped than any suv you can buy for that price.

Diesel Motor Warning – I purchased a Mazda 6 , GJ Atenza 2.2 litre Diesel Wagon in February 2023 with 142,000klms on the car , Mazda Service History. Within weeks the iloop warning light came on , I took it to my regular mechanic who cleared and reset the computer code as it had a back log of issues. Within weeks of that the car overheated and I returned it to my… Read more

mechanic and he diagnosed a blown head gasket. A $10,000 - $15,000 fix for a replacement engine. I have lost a significant amount of money on this car. The more I investigated, the more I was informed of issues with this 2.2 litre diesel motor , Mazda no longer use this diesel engine as an option , not hard to work out why. I’m writing this review as a warning to any potential future purchasers of a Mazda with this 2.2litre motor , UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES BUY ONE.

Mazda 6 Sport Wagon 2013 petrol 2.5ltr Skyactiv – Negatives: Have owned this vehicle for over a year now & I still struggle to get comfortable in it. Roof line is way too low iam 6ft tall and bump my head on terrible angle from A pillars to front doors entry & exit, & front seats don't adjust low enough for us taller Australians. Rear seat entry and exit is better. Too many buttons to adjust the… Read more

cruise control, risking your eyes on the road, a toggle stick would be better. Annoying istop system I always forget to disengage, with starter motor already replaced under warranty & battery replaced under warranty. Has a tendency to use engine oil between services, only done 140k kms. Harsh ride but handles well, together with road noise that is always heard. Sound of motor lacks character even with the dual exhaust it sounds hollow. Positives: excellent fuel economy 7.9 ltrs/100kms around town, 6.7 ltr/100kms freeway driving. 6 spd auto gearbox with manual sport mode & steering paddles is excellent. Aircon with econo mode is cold & excellent. Reverse camera & sensors are very handy with the lack of visibility through the low roof line. Brakes are excellent & so is the turning circle.

Competence, reliable and drives well – Bought the Mazda 6 wagon Sport, with 140k's on the clock, in March 2018, replacing a very unreliable Mercedes. The things I like about this car. It drives well, very neutral handling, good brakes, very zippy, slick transmission. All functions are intuitive, the cruise control is easy, lights and wipers are where they should be, the air cons easy… Read more

to use, and reasonably quiet. The stereos good, and connects well to all devices, even ancient Ipods. The sat/nav is a TomTom unit and as such is very user friendly. The rear seats fold down very easily, and the area is very useful. Lots of storage compartments, great little area for putting your keys, in the centre consul. Reasonable frugal, running the petrol 2.5 litre version. Get roughly 8 litres to the 100klms, a round town, that's Melbourne city driving. A bit better in the country. Decent rear seat accommodation. The inside is well finished, and durable. Have heard some criticism, about the reversing camera, I've found it works fine.

The things I don't like! It's not built for large or tall people, I'm 5.8 and it's ideal for me, if your over 6 you will struggle getting in and out. Space saving spare tyre, rated to 80kph. Under the rear deck looks like there's enough room for a full sized, that would be a plus. The stop start function, can be annoying.

Other things to add, original battery died at 7 years, the shockers went at 175k.

Great car, just a few niggles away from being perfect – My first real modern car. Bought it second hand with 50,000ks. Used to commute to work, family trips, main workhorse. Overall extremely impressed. Good points, chassis is taught and gives great driving poise when cornering, gearbox is seamless with 3 different gear change options, interior quality is excellent, fuel efficiency excellent due to a… Read more

lot of little things, low weight, low profile, stop-start, capacitor that charges on braking. Things they could improve, not much, I did have to pull the doors apart and fix the Bose speakers, there was faulty(cheap) paint applied in the Mexican Bose factory so the noise was awful. Once I fixed, great. I’ve also had a problem where sometimes I lose drive for 2-3s and the car coasts along. I’ve worked out to change down gears and it jerks it out of it. The boot is small in the wagon but it’s managed to satisfy our needs, just make sure you see it first, still bigger lengthways than a CX-5. Sounds a bit like a tractor when you start it up but settles into a very subdued sound. Would be nice for a bit more aural engagement. The engine is adequate nothing more but you can use the flappy paddles to shift down to hurry it along if you want. Suspension for me is a tad floaty but just by a small margin, you can see they’ve softened it for the cosseted, adult driver rather than the spirited corner lover. I would by one again in a heartbeat, so reliable. I’ve put 100,000ks on no problem. If I had the money I’d go for the newer turbo engine. For now I’ll just keep this great car.

Perfect family wagon – We have owned a Mazda6 wagon now for almost 18 months & it has been bullet-proof! A trip from Sydney to Melbourne & across Mt Gambier in South Australia, the comfort for passengers, the great driving experience for the driver & the load carrying capacity. Also the costs of running are another great incentive.

Mazda 6 Sport Wagon - Tops! – This car is a great drive - hugs the road nicely, very tame at speed and refined handling. Easy on fuel, not so much on tyres if you don't rotate them regularly. Do that and you will reap the benefits in extending tyre wear. Lane departure, parking assist, kinetic recovery system all work well, and the steering wheel paddles to shift gears in… Read more

Perfect middle class car – The Mazda 6 is a great car for any growing family, that occasionally goes for long road trips or zip around the city. Spacious front and back with standard large 7" in dash screen with GPS and Bluetooth audio. We have the Sport model, which comes with leather seats, climate control, fog lights, 17" alloys that gives the smoothest ride. We upgraded from the Mazda 3, and could tell the difference in ride comfort straight away.  Show details

Perfect, seriously there is nothing about it that I'd change – The visual dashboard is fricking awesome and has so many features: music, radio, sat-nav, bluetooth, etc. It also handles amazingly well for a tuner and its acceleration is great too. very good value – 2013 touring model petrol wagon . Likes , upmarket interior and features , low servicing costs , excellent reliability . Dislikes , road ( tyre ) noise , holds on to higher gears for fuel economy. petrol engine lacks torque if fully loaded, you would need to try the diesel engine if that was your intended use.  Show details

Very nice car for touring – Engine has heaps of torque, excellent for long drives. Handles well but like most wagons the cornering isn't great. Road noise is good. Pretty good – Bought a 2012 model 2nd hand with 130k on it. Really nice inside and pretty good entertainment system for it's age. Car looks much nicer than alternatives at a similar price. Auto is sluggish although I have always had manuals. Even the padels feel slow to respond. Has a bit of go when using the padels but doesn't set the world on fire. Excellent car inside and outside – My 2nd Mazda. Had a Mazda 3 for 8 years with no problems. Had a 2013 Mazda 6 GT wagon since February and delighted with it so far. Design is as good as any in its class. Build quality inside and outside is excellent. The GT are shod with 225 45 R19 which are quite pricey. Had to replace at 50,000km. the two memory seat adjustments work very well for us.

Bose sound system is really nice and the Bluetooth function works well too.

Handling is superb, especially in hilly terrain.

September 12th 2017 Update: Very nice hi spec car

I have the GT model. Only minor disappointment is the 19 wheels, which pick up every bump in the road and the tyres are very expensive being a non- standard size.

Handling is superb. I am not an agressive driver, and the road holding is 1st class.

Dashboard layout too is is excellent. Very clear instrumentation. Leather seats are very comfortable with good support.

Legroom is pretty good.Only very tall passengers might be a bit squeezed.

I am very happy with this car overall

Great car – Waited for the 2017 version. Well worth the wait. Similar to drive to the Honda but way better. Unfair to compare an older car to a new one but. Like the safety features, ride, drive, space, performance, fuel consumption, voice control, paintwork which glistens in the sun, leather interior. Heaps more. What can I say this is a great car.  Show details ·  1

Mazda 6 Wagon Safety Pack – I bought my Mazda 6 Sport Wagon (Safety Pack) in May 2016 and have done just over ten thousand kilometres until November 2016. vast improvement from my old Mazda 626 GE 2lt, but the low speed ride on our potholed and coarse chip roads is still firm and tyre roar on coarse roads is noticeable. The electric steering is very accurate except for windy freeway conditions, when small corrections are necessary as the vehicle does wander in it's lane. The electronic throttle on the other hand is a right pain, as linear feel is totally missing, I found that using the cruise control, especially below 80 kph is the easiest way to keep within the law as the torquey, quiet motor will slip past past speed limits before you know it. The MZD Connect system is idiot proof when connecting to Bluetooth, the Sat. Nav, is simple and addresses can be entered via the touch screen or smart device. "Mrs Tom Tom" as I call her alerts me regularly that I am above the speed limit, the infotainment system is "live" all the time for Sat. Nav. and music. I have a 64 Gig USB in one of the two USB's in the consul which has my entire music collection in it, so I'm never without music. in the second USB port I have a retractable cable for my iPhone and I can make calls hands-free by pushing a button on the steering wheel, voice command or via the LCD display communications menu and of course the iPhone. The heater in Winter is putting out warm air within minutes and the Auto Dual Zone Air is faultless and the vents for rear seat passengers are perfect as air also comes from under the front seats. The Auto wipers are great (I have been used to dwell wipers in the past) and the sensitivity settings allow for set and forget wipers. I thought the Auto headlights was a gimmick until I realised that the meters on the dash are LED illuminated full time, so that it is possible to drive in low kight when the headlights should be on. The Cross Traffic Alert, Blind spot Monitoring and Smart City Brake Assist were in the upgrade package for 2016 ($1500) and are technology that every car should have, I recently had a brand new Mazda 2 loaner from the dealer while my car was being serviced and found I missed the 6's safety features greatly. Visibility from the drivers seat is compromised by a thick sloping A pillar and a generous door mirror, I have not seen cars and small tucks at roundabouts and side streets, so a lean froward and backward are necessary also at pedestrian crossings. The Blind Spot monitor and the Cross Traffic Sonar are excellent and are sensitive enough to pick up pedestrians and cyclists, the latter necessary in urban areas, where cyclist sneak up on the left. The external mirrors fold back when parking and the interior mirror tints automatically at night time to reduce headlight glare from behind. I chose the Sport variant because I'm not a fan of leather seats (slippery & sweaty) and find that the fabric seat covers are very comfortable and smart in black, I did buy a set of custom seat covers ($375 micro fibre). The cabin is finished in soft-feel plastics and shiny metal accents and has exposed stitching to add the high quality look and feel, the steering wheel is leather bound as is the gear lever. The gearbox is a six speed electronic manual with a torque converter between it and the smooth 2.5lt petrol motor, giving the best of both worlds with smooth acceleration and shifts with clutch-like grip, the Sport Mode button on the console allows the gearbox to rev to redline in the gears and paddle shifters are also on the steering wheel, but they do turn with the wheel which can be tricky in manual mode if you want another gear!! Rear seat passengers get good leg room with a fold down centre arm rest and cup holders, front cup holders are also under a sliding panel in the centre console and bottle holders are built into all four door panels. A high waist line and reasonably small glass gives a safe look and feel to all passengers and the rear roof line has an almost shooting-brake look to it, giving the wagon variant a handsome profile. The rear seats are 60/40 and can be folded flat from the cargo area or next to the headrests, just make sure there's nothing on the seats when deploying the cargo bay levers, as the seats drop with force!! On a haul from Byron Bay to The Blue Mountains (2 weeks old) the fuel economy was brilliant, almost 900 k's before refill of E10 94 octane, there is no noticeable difference in performance when using Premium or High Octane fuels, although they may use slightly less per bang, the cheaper fuel is wonderful.

Good but not perfect – Solid car with great comfort and good handling. Very well put together with plenty of features and quality for the price. service intervals are quite low though.

I can't give it a perfect rating since I found a few annoying things: No auto door lock or door lock button. Drivers side mirror actually magnifies, giving a terrible view area and making the car in the lane next to you look very close, even though it is very far away, and there is no button to easily let you pause whatever you are streaming without having to go into the audio section. Not really a fan of where the drinks holder is in the middle, since if you put a bottle in the front drinks holder it makes it difficult to use the media buttons/knob. I'm nitpicking though.

Otherwise it is a damn fine vehicle. I would buy one again even though it's not a perfect car but the main areas tick all the boxes.

A great Mazda to rival the Euros – This new GJ Mazda 6 is a huge knockout from Mazda. I'd previously owned the first series Mazda 6 and loved it, but it always felt just a tad underdone in terms of refinement and feel. But the new GJ is a great car. I love the Wagon version of the 6, it has a real Audi/European, muscular design to it. Much more mature than the more cartoonish… Read more

GG/GY version. Inside is just as fantastic, Mazda's interior has that European minimalism to it, with a beautiful fit and finish that belies its price range. It feels very BMW/Audi inside, it's a very nice place to be.

A minor gripe about the Series 1 GJ interior are the side pockets for the doors. If you could call them that. They're just long, cylindrical bottle holders. The Series 2 now has proper side pockets.

To drive, it's very comfortable, effortless, refined. Previous Mazda 6s have been a bit lacking in noise and vibration refinement, but this new Mazda 6 is leaps ahead. The ride quality is excellent, on the base model's 17 inch rims anyway. The 19s you get with the upper model do detract from the ride and make it a bit busy and jiggly.

A real winner in my books too are the standard, steering wheel mounted, paddle shifts. This car has real ability to be driven hard, and the paddle shifts mean you can really take advantage of what this car can do. Stick it in Sport and away you go, the car will hold gears for you and won't shift up. You can also use the paddle shifters while in Drive as well. Very useful to just be able to tap down a couple of gears and go, rather than stomping your foot and hoping you gave it enough to jump down the gears you wanted.

This is the 'base' model too, but it's stacked. Dual Zone Climate Control, Cruise Control, Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Traction Control, Stop/Start mode.

Fuel economy has been very good, about 8.4L/100km with mostly city driving. With more Highway driving I've seen it hit 6.9L/100km. It now also only requires 91 RON instead of minimum 95 like the previous verisons. Running costs are fine for now, no faults, although $320 per service is a bit rich. At least it's only once a year.

The boot space is fantastic too and is why I bought the Wagon. About 510L which is way above most SUVs in the same price category. It's more versatile too, flat loading space, bag hooks, metal tie-down points for a cargo net. It even has a retractable net that goes from the back of the back seats up to the ceiling to wall off the boot from the rest of the car when it's fully packed. It even comes standard with Roof Racks to put your skies on and hit the slopes with. Which I don't, because I live in the tropics.

In all this is a real leap forward in terms of quality, design and engineering for Mazda. This car deserves to be cross-shopped with VWs, Audis, Merc, Volvo and the like. And it really holds its own. The rest of the Japanese and Korean competition really needs to step up its game if they want to take the fight to Mazda.

Plain and simple, it's a nice car to look at, it's versatile and a nice place to be inside and drive, however you like/want to drive your car. And isn't that really all of what most of us are looking for from a car?

Great 2013 Mazda 6 Diesel Atenza – Bought a blue reflex 2013 Diesel Atenza in September 2013 after 10 weeks in back order but it was worth it. For those who are looking for mid size sedan, the new Mazda 6 is highly recommended. Torque, grip, comfort, the Bose sound quality, safety features and fuel economy. Small boot compared to the 2008 Mazda 6. TomTom sat nav is slow. The 6 month service interval is costly and Mazda offers 12 month service in US. Why not in Australia?
