This was a present from my son who is a meticulous Engineer.I previously owned a Dell lap top, Surface Laptop kept 'crashing 'during important emails and Teams conferences. It came preloaded withwindows10and I updated to Win11..It has Bitdefender security and I mostly watch Netflix and depend on it for email, banking and correcting reports. It… Read more
has continued to crash at the most inopportune moments, and I am truly sick and tired of it and am looking to buy a replacement, probably an Azus or another Dell laptop.
Good laptop – Has been pretty good. But there are a few things I don't like: 1) When running more intensive programs (EG: Sims 4) the laptop gets quite hot and the fan is very loud 2) The buttons on the trackpad have stopped working as well and I usually have to use a mouse to highlight or right-click things, for example 3) It's very easy for the magnetic… Read more
charger to fall out of the charging port, leaving the computer not charging without me noticing 4) The battery life is definitely less than 11.5 hours
some minor issues but great overall – I have had this laptop (black) from work for about 3 years now. It is a low-end i5-1035G7 8GB RAM 256GB SSD in black matte color. I am a professional IT who has been in the field since 1994 and you can imagine I have tried almost all worthy hardware. Mechanically and from "emotional feel" of the device, it is right there at the top. It has harder… Read more
aluminium grade that does not bend of break, and black matte feels sublime, and does not leave figerprints, you can wipe any smudges of food / hand oil from it simply by swiping with your palm is completely "disappears" any imperfections. Feels "nice" and allows smooth wrist slide over those panels under the keyboard. I love the keyboard, even though I would have liked even shorter key travel. I know, I know. People typically say the love the old school mechanical deep keyboards but I am beyond that point where you only know and love the heavy stuff. Shorter travel for my blind typing simply lowers the effort and increases typing speed. Did I spell this lappy is sturdy and non-bendable like King Arthur's axe? The battery life is right there where you expect it for this Gen10 intel i5. About 6-8 hours. You might not need to recharge but I do, at about 3:15pm for a 9-5 day. Minus sleep time during lunch. It still better than my colleagues' laptops (Dell Latitude 5300, lenovo x1/ 14s). They needed to charge by lunch time. I do not care for performance because I have many servers and clouds to place whatever workload I need. A very nice display, with the 3:2 (golden) ratio that I (as a lifeform) love, it is better than 16:10 and much better than 16:9, and don't get me started on the silly mobile screen formats we have to use. From the connectiviy point of view, I am all set with a Dock (v1, just "Microsoft Surface Dock") which has got more ports that I ever need, since I am also using Microsoft Modern Wireless Mouse (5* product) and Microsoft Modern Headset (4* product), I do not need USB-A to plug all those dongles, I bought into the black surface ecosystem. One dock connector gives me all I ever need. Yes I had to update the dock's firmware to enable 4K 60Hz to my 32" benq over miniDisplayPort.
Let me stress again, from mechanical, this animal, analog "feel" you get from the product, I think it is simply the best. I like it more that the Apple stuff, perhaps because SL3 feels stronger and warmer to the touch than the Apple-finish alumimium? There is enough keyboard keys, being a windows laptop you get to enjoy separate Backspace and Delete keys unlike the Apple folk. I am only moderately annoyed by the need to disengage the default fn key mode to use my F1, F5 and other F-keys but that is the problem for my generation only because we have used DOS and PCTools and Norton Commander where those keys were the life. New-gen'ers don't care and they're majority, so Microsoft was right about which mode is the default.
Not the great stuff - few issues. 1. The bottom rubber feet near the hinge, had gotten loose and had to be replaced (superglue'd in) by me when MS sent replacement for free. Use a better glue next time, MS. 2. The display employs PWM, which for me is the biggest issue, as I am flicker-sensitive to utmost degree. If your eyes never hurt from displays, ignore this one. Prev-gen Dell XPS 2-in-1 (9310) has much better display although worse ratio 16:10. 3. Only 8GB RAM i've got, as decided by work situation, so I shall get rid of it next month (and will miss it!) and get one with more RAM (non-Surface this time again as per work situation). 4. It has got a fan, a very good one, very "hush hush" non-annoying one - as simply needed by the intel power. 5. It does not wrap around to become a tablet, nor detach. I would have loved to use but I doubt the battery would last to remain after work. I would have loved a Surface Book 4 but it was not happening. Cheers to Panay Panas (MS) who IMHO is a life saviour to the very experienced wintel crowd.
Excellent Microsoft warranty service – My Surface Laptop 3 was stuck and everyone said it’s unrepairable but we took it to the Microsoft Service Centre in Sydney and they fixed it for free straight away despite expired warranty. Show details
Literally just trash – I’ve had this laptop for 2 1/2 years now - and within that time I’ve had 2 new ones sent to me. The first laptop I had was one of the faulty hairline screen crack laptops. So they send me a new one, new one had a key that wasn’t working. So they sent me a new one - this new one.. is the laggiest computer I have ever used in my life. It requires a… Read more
new update weekly, and if you don’t do the updates it’s so laggy that you literally cannot use it. I’ve also had my charger stop working because it wasn’t updated. And also needed a replacement for charger. The only good thing about this computer is the generally great customer service from Microsoft. They have been very helpful, and understanding always. Also they follow up all the time which is great. Too bad the laptop sucks
Low quality , high price – My first Surface laptop the touchscreen died just after one year , bought a surface laptop 3 , after 9 months got stuck in boot cycle and wouldn't start. 2 weeks to replace under warranty. Replacement model now has cracked screen - google it, common issue not related to impact damage.... I love the display quality and form factor , but i feel the… Read more
reliability and quality is just not there, especially for the price . Meanwhile my 8 year old HP just keeps on going... Will not be buying a surface laptop again . Too expensive and unreliable
Cracked screen – Have had a Surface Pro 3 for around 6 years and thought that after such reliable and satisfactory experience that a purchase of Surface Laptop 3 would be the obvious replacement. After a few months the screen has cracked and for no apparent reason. Device rarely leaves my desktop and the potential for damage is extremely low. Went through the… Read more
process of some service to resolve this issue. Result was an option to do an out of Warrantee which would total around $750 for a screen replacement. Nearly half the price of a new unit and impossible to justify. There has been some media reports of these particular devices having an issue with screens cracking for no apparent reason. Obviously Microsoft has not circulated information to purchasers as that might imply that they would be responsible for cracked screen issues. Attempted to access a repair from a third party repairer but spare parts are not available for this particular device. Really disappointed with this situation and not sure what action I shall take going forward. From my expereince I can not recommend this product as it may either be faulty or is simply not robust enough to handle even light use. On reflection I would have been better served by a purchase of Surface Pro 7 as that device is less likely to present this issue.
If you like Random reboots, buy it – This AMD version SL3 is synonymous with just crashing at any point. Once and hour, once a day, once a week, it is just random. The fans are noisy. It heats up a lot. For an Ryzen 7 it does not have much juice. All in all terrible laptop. Costs a fortune and MS wont acknowledge or fix the issue. Worst purchase ever. Show details
Go and buy a HP again. This is complete Rubbish – I purchased this Laptop to sit on my counter at home. Its never left the bench. After a couple of months the 'C' key on the keyboard started to come away. A small clip under it had broken. I opened a case with microsoft to get it repaired under warranty. Laptop was returned unrepaired with status - "User Abuse". There is not a single mark on… Read more
the laptop. Its never left the bench it sits on. I then returned the laptop to the supplier who agreed the laptop is in immaculate condition and that it should be fixed. Microsoft still avoiding fixing under warranty. They don't even have parts to fix it if i decide i want to pay to get it fixed. (i won't be paying).
I ran a factory reset on the Surface before returning it to remove my data. Did a full clean windows install. After the install the surface keyboard, mouse and wifi did not work. I had to connect a USB hub, an external keyboard, mouse and ethernet cable, in order to download a surface driver software pack so that all the hardware would work.
Microsoft...Really!!! your own branded hardware doesn't run out of box on a fresh windows install.!!!! Sloppy......How would someone who isn't a computer tech fix this!!!
I have rebuilt 1000's of HP laptops with fresh windows install and never had this issue.
I run an IT consulting business and sell HP laptops. I picked up this surface to try it out as customers have been asking about it. Selling over 200-300 HP laptops per year i have found the service from HP to be much better. The products from HP are much better. Avoid the Surface Laptop and go with anything else.
