Microsoft Surface Pro 7

Great secondary device – I bought mine in 2021 and to date has been a reliable unit. Great when sitting up in bed. The adjustable kickstand allows for a comfortable angle to use it. I sometimes pair with my Logitech MX keyboard and mouse when I need to do a lot of typing. I also use it in conjunction with the Microsoft pen which is a good alternative to the mouse when… Read more
travelling. I have no trouble running Microsoft 365 (Office). Being the mobile version of the i5 processor, some system updates are noticeably slower than a PC with a regular i5 chip. for my purposes, the battery life is fine and charge as needed about every 3 or 4 days depending on use. The onscreen keyboard hides about 1/3 of the available screen space, hence I sometimes connect my Bluetooth keyboard. Having both USB-C and USB-A ports is great for attaching accessories e.g. hubs, scanners, external drives. The built-in MicroSD card slot is good because it provides additional storage for files and the card can be used to easily transfer files to other compatible devices. The only downer for me is not being able to check battery status until the unit is powered on, but I've gotten used to that.
Overheating machine, bad support – Doesn't hold up to the price, will overheat within 12-18 months and present a fire hazard as the lithium battery expands, deforming the case and screen. This is also a health hazard. Support has been awful - they charged me hundreds of dollars, closed the tickets repeatedly, wasted time on the phone. All to make me deal with their courier myself.… Read more
Yuck, don't buy.
Update 1 week later: Still haven't received a replacement unit. Tracking was provided today and it's somewhere in the AusPost pipeline with the cheapest shipping possible. Support is flippantly disinterested and any attempt to make phone or chat contact fall short as I get an agent unable to even check a ticket number or verify details. Between the purchase and repair costs I'm now 1857$ (767.69 to replace the hazardous battery, upgrade promised but then mind changed) out of pocket on this. Ridiculous.
Update: The machine I was sent was incorrect (promised a Surface Pro 9, which they attempted to charge to my card without permission and then went back on their word). The "new" Surface Pro 7 has obviously been sitting on a shelf for 3 years. The chassis looks weathered and the touchscreen is defective. No multitouch, massive dead spots around the edges of the touchscreen. Chassis obviously peeled apart from the bottom edge as I can see the seam and black tape underneath. Battery is running noticeably worse than the last machine, you have maybe 4 hours of battery life about 60% of the swollen machine which was getting 6-7. Hope you weren't expecting 10.5. Software environment was a generic installation of Windows 10 from 2020, so out of the box it needed 2 years of updates, a Windows upgrade and reset - hours of work that should have been completed before it shipped. There is obviously zero oversight or QA on products leaving. Shipping was done via Parcel Post in a generic cardboard box with no insulation and an open plastic slip the machine was dropped into.
Support typically not responding to any communications and from their perspective don't even know what has or hasn't arrived as their courier doesn't tell them. So waiting for them to realize they've actually dropped another machine off and it's still defective as they don't seem to read emails or talk to their partners. This is exactly why you don't use non-technical people from overseas call centres to service premium technical products. Apple support I would have had an empowered technical person on the phone within hours who would have resolved this weeks ago. Rating downgraded from 2/5 to 1/5. They will probably enjoy their interactions with the Ombudsman and ACCC as the Philippines call centre doesn't have the sense to be scared of them, as well as any bank backcharges. I shouldn't have to pay for a manufacturing defect that presents a safety hazard within 3 years so they've already had one free pass and a handout, but now I'm feeling abused.
It's a bit meh! – *every review I do is of a product I have purchased and own The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is a powerful 2-in-1 device that has a lot of great features. The 12.3-inch PixelSense display is beautiful and works great for watching videos or browsing the web. And the detachable keyboard and kickstand make it super versatile, allowing it to be used as… Read more
either a laptop or a tablet.
However, I have experienced some issues with the device. The battery life is not as good as advertised, and it tends to get quite hot and noisy when running intensive applications. Additionally, the lack of ports can be a bit of a hassle for me.
Despite these issues, I understand that Microsoft has released several updates to address these problems, and their customer support team has been helpful in troubleshooting any issues I've had.
Overall, the Surface Pro 7 is a solid device for productivity, entertainment, and on-the-go use. While it's not perfect, it still has a lot to offer, and if you're willing to work through any issues, it could be a great choice for you.
The worst tablet for drawing – I wouldn't recommend buying this because it is very slow and it always crashes so you can't get anything done in Windows also the security is shocking.
Terrible experience, do not recommend to buy it! – Since I bought it (brand new) touch screen stop working suddenly and the only way to to get it working again is pressing the power button There are several reports of this problem in Microsoft support forums but no solution. I contacted Microsoft support and after several remote operations and system reinstall they decided to replace it. The new one has exactly the same problem. I give up with this tablet, it is totally unreliable. Show details
NEVER EVER BUY IT! fan is too noisy, the device gets too hot to the level you can't touch it – I purchased the device, couple of months later, the fan started to be very noisy, 1 more month, the performance has been degraded dramatically, 1 more month, i can no longer switch batter options to high performance to keep the laptop running. It took me 2 months to get to Microsoft support. They do not do advanced replacement, you must send your… Read more
device first, and if you want an advanced replacement, you must pay them the same amount of a brand new one for a broken computer which doesn't make sense. They don't make exceptions.
Anyways, I went for a replacement and I received a refurbished device wrapped up in a dodgy package, fan noise is worse than the previous one and the hard drive makes clicks noise.
I've been in this issue with their support since 3 month ago and they didn't solve anything yet, They do not want to provide a brand new device or provide a refund. I am at the level of involving fair trading to get this sorted out.
Worst customer service ever, they don't treat you as a human instead, they would treat you as if you are just a number.
*13/04/2021 update*, I received another device and it's faulty (same issues). Worse than all the ones before. *09/05/2021 update*, I received another faulty device, but this time the fan keeps going loud then low like raving up kind of noise, the device doesn't sit straight.
I really want my money back!
Save yourselves honestly.
Ongoing issues with Surface Type keypad not working – Purchased 9 months ago. Began having issues with the Surface Type keyboard not working a month ago. Initially intermittent and then would not work at all. Good Guys replaced keyboard which worked for a few days and then failed totally. Returned Surface Pro unit. Informed it will take 4-6 weeks to repair/replace. Think that is very ordinary from Microsoft for a $2,000 product. Staff at The Good Guys very helpful, but disappointed in Microsoft. Show details
