Very poor for a premium priced product / brand – DGC 5085 XL - in the UK, Basically same base as the 5080 model however it is plumbed in version as far as I am aware. Common issues between these models though it seems. Front panel fails to open when appliance is hot had this issue since it was approx. six months old! We notified Miele at the time, but did not really want the appliance removed, and reinstalled into our brand new kitchen so we have 'lived’ with this defect – not that it should have occurred in the first place! I would expect something like this to be identified and rectified during pre-release testing as this does seem to be a common issue that also seems to occur very soon in the products life – to me it is reasonable that an oven gets hot and things expand when heated – a possible design defect perhaps? Think they have a retrofit kit for this now.

Oven also has an issue with clock jumping ahead by hours and returning back to correct time (software bug?)

Recently - numerous issues with the descale program (appliance gets locked in descale with fault code 10 and 11). That is the final straw.

Notified Miele re the descale issue having spent almost 8 hours trying to get the appliance back to an operational state and consuming a vast supply of Miele’s expensive descale tablets in the process. We have asked them for a replacement given the fact these all seems to be common issues coupled with my now (understandable?) lack of confidence in this appliance and diminishing confidence in the brand.

Appliance is coming up 2 years old and Miele want to repair rather than replace. Perhaps a zero is missing off the 20 year life claim? I did not purchase a refurb in the first instance and am not really happy about a repair to a very expensive (quality??) appliance. It needs 4 parts - not at all impressed.

Two children to feed and an unreliable oven doesn’t mix well. We brought this brand to avoid such issues (forever better?? oh really?)

We purchased 8 Miele appliances (dishwasher, fridge, freezer, warming draw, hood, hob, microwave

and oven) – and had issues with almost 40% of them!

Complaint logged with Miele UK. When it works it is great on combo mode and looks good Poor reliability seems to have common defects. Not at all in keeping with Miele brand claims.

Hopeless, Don't do it, Repeat, don't buy this one - Doesn't Work – Have owned the 5085XL for one year - has been replaced twice, top panel is a lemon - always stops working. Problems with the descale program not working and the water container not being recognised when it is in place. Quite frankly an awful machine and expected much better for the the Miele reputation and price. I write this as the technician is here, again, and after an hour, still no resolution. As one cook, busy mum and housewife to another. Save yourself the trouble and don't go anywhere near this one.

UPDATE:

After previous review was contacted by Miele. They arranged for a new replacement within two weeks. The Miele service and response has been good. Ask for a Senior Customer Advocate (they know their stuff) rather than waiting on the regular call centre. Much better service after writing review on this website! Technician was helpful and arrived on time. Hoping that the problems in the past have now been solved. When it works (20% of the time) it is excellent. Miele service team were prompt, clear and have replaced the unit Poor reliability, poor Miele service to fix. These machines were not ready to be released to the domestic market. Annoying that it needed replacing.

It starts to rust – Unbelievable, I bought this new 5085 xl, and after 6 months the front didn't open any more, the grill started to rust and it did not detect the water holder any more. Rust!!!!!!!!! in a steamer, come on, it will be warm and hot, dont use material that can rust'. For such an expensive machine it's really bad. Jan Cooks well when it works Rust!!!!!!!!! in a steamer, come on, it will be warm and hot, dont use material that can rust
