Miele fridge - door handle keeps breaking – We purchased the Miele fridge/freezer (K14820SD & FN14827S ed/cs) in December 2014 expecting to have purchased high end and long lasting products, as is the claim by Miele. However, as with all of these reviews we have also had many problems with the Miele door handle of the fridge/freezer snapping off. This has occurred on 3 occasions. When… Read more

raising it with Miele it has at first attempted to charge the full price for the replacement handle (the cost now $237), and then offered a 20 per cent discount. After lots of calls and our insistence it has in the end provided a replacement handle at no cost as a "good will gesture". However, after the last time earlier this month Miele was very difficult on the replacement. We had to make many phone calls and eventually Miele replaced the handle free of charge but stated that it would not replace any further snapped handles. The issue is clearly that there is a design fault with the fridge handle, otherwise so many people would not be having this problem. Miele attempted to shift blame to ourselves on the way we open the fridge door. We understand the fridge has a suction mechanism so you need to be careful about how you open it which we are. We had a previous Fisher and Paykel fridge for 20 years (it has been with my mother-in-law for the last 7 years since purchasing the Miele) and it still works completely fine and the door handle has never snapped off that fridge. I have also not heard family or friends saying their fridge handles have broken. Miele cannot make a fridge/freezer with a design fault and then walk away from the problem. It really needs to keep replacing the handles free of charge or provide a replacement fridge/freezer which does not have this problem. There is also the issue of the condensation building up in the drain hole and the water leaking which is raised in reviews (another reason not to buy this fridge) but the main issue is that of the handles breaking. Interested to see many, many complaints about the handle on the Miele website as well but it seems to be doing little about this issue, see: https://shop.miele.com.au/en/spare-parts/miele-refrigeration-handle-spare-part-10851200-zid10851200/. It cannot think that as a prestigious brand with customers spending a lot on its products, that it is acceptable for so many people to have the same problem but to do so little about it except to continue making money from the customers by charging for replacement handles.

Fridge: Amazing. Handles: Keep breaking – We've had to replace the handle on this very expensive fridge a number of times now. As I can see from other reviews, this is common. Considering the price of the original unit and the handle replacements, Miele need to start offering free, or significantly discounted, replacement handles to us, of a better build quality. The freezer handle has never broken, but the fridge one hardly lasts a year. Show details

Good fridge but handle breaks – The replacement handle only lasted a couple of years and broke in the same place as the original one. At over $200 to replace this is disappointing as it is clearly a design flaw or poor materials. We love Miele products, everything in the kitchen is Miele as they are designed to last 20+ years just disappointed the fridge handle breaks :( Maybe Miele could come up with a better replacement? Show details

Good Fridge - Shame about the door handle - again – Purchased in 2012 the Fridge is a Miele K14820 SD ed/cs. The door handle failed in 2016 and was replaced at no cost by Miele. It failed again in December 2020 after another four years in use. This time Miele wants me to pay $217 for a replacement. Handle sheared at the same spot as previously which indicates a design defect. This fridge is in a two person household so it's not heavily used. So much for the claimed test to 20 years use.

this fridge has been fitted with defect door handle – have just ordered my 2nd handle, cannot stomach that I have to pay to replace their defect product. Talking the person, they want to send someone over to have a look and charge me another $79 to check their defect product.......just disappointing Show details

Can’t handle the handle – Now up to the third broken handle on this fridge, and just been told I have to cough up $217 for a replacement. When are they going to come up with a robust handle that lasts???

Miele handle broken again - fridge – Purchased 2013 $5128 from David Jones. Matching pigeon pair Fridge K14820SD and Freezer FN14827S. Since purchase I have had three broken handles - today being the third. They last about 2 years and then the plastic snaps and the handle comes away in your hand. This time - my 87 year old father’s hand, almost smacking him in the face, narrowly… Read more

missing his eye.

Last time (March 2018) I was told by Miele as they reluctantly agreed to send me a free replacement ‘that it was not a design fault’, that it was a ‘training’ issue ( we needed to learn how to use the handle correctly) and that this would be the LAST time they would replace a handle free of charge without sending an engineer out to see how we were opening the door.

I will be ringing consumer affairs on Mon as these expensive appliances should not fail in this short timeframe. Miele should own their design faults.

Great fridge BUT terrible handle – Bought this fridge together with a matching fridge/freezer combo in 2017. Before purchasing I had read reviews about the handles being a constant problem and discussed with Miele sales staff. I was told that the problem had been rectified and no longer an issue. Guess what, handle just snapped off yesterday when my wife opened the door. I’ve been… Read more ·  2

reading reviews again today and see that the handles are still a big problem and nothing changed Otherwise a great fridge but marred by a poor handle design Unbelievable that Miele can’t, or won’t, rectify this.

Broken Handle – Fridge is great but same issue with broken handle. Just 4 years old I would have expected the handle to have outlasted the fridge not to be replacing it on an ongoing basis. Show details

Some great features others could be better – Some great features others could be better. The fridge keeps all food nice and cool; it's quiet and economical and it has a nice look to it being finished in stainless steel. On the areas to improve on; when the fridge is closed the magnetic seal forms a vacuum which lasts for a minute or so, if you try to open the fridge during this time it puts pressure on the hanle and seals.  Show details

Good fridge - poorly engineered handles – Great fridge - shame about the handles. I have broken two in 5 years, and whilst Miele gave me one to replace the first, I am now looking at $204 to replace the second one. Clearly they are not designed for a humid climate, where the door suction is high, and after repeated use the casting breaks.  Show details
