Unhappy buyer - Too much money for too little umbrella – Spent $800 on an umbrella that was kept in its protective cover from day one and didn’t last 20 uses. I do not recommend this umbrella. Unstable in a light breeze. Slide adjuster broke in no time. Show details

Terible – Absolute junk. Had one of these Mimosa shade umbrellas set up over our plunge pool. A small breeze caused it to invert, plastic connector broke and sent aluminium rods down on to my children. Cheap and dangerous.

Reasonable for the price – Have had a variety of umbrellas over the years including Shelta but the last one was left open whilst we were on holidays and of course the wind blew it apart. Most pool umbrellas do the job on a still day but once the wind comes up you have a problem if left open, manufacturers do stress not to leave open during varying wind strengths. I decide… Read more

to try the Mimosa model as price was a few hundred cheaper than some brands but that is exactly what I got, it works well on a still day. Whilst the unit is still as new it has spent the last 2 years unopened with a replacement cover, I have installed stainless wire tracks and run a Bunnings shade cloth of 3.6x9m which can slide and cover the desired shaded area, do not have to worry about windy days as the wind blows through and can be retracted easily when not in use cheaper than an umbrella.

*Positives* Can do the job on a still day. Quality reasonable for the price.

*Negatives* The original cover lasted just over 12 months, bought another Bunnings weren't interested told tht's the way it is.. Cannot use when the slightest breeze comes up. The horizontal angle function almost useless unless a very still day. Have to be vigilant for the wind.

Fully functioning cantilever umbrella for a fraction of the price of other alternatives – Great price for the features it has. Similar umbrellas retail for double if not triple the price. Can rotate 360 degrees on the base, umbrella can be tilted up to 90 degrees on the horizontal access and roughly the same on the vertical access allowing it to "follow the sun" and act as a blocker no matter what the time of day and position of the… Read more

sun. The base, when filled with sand is a hefty 80kgs making it stable in winds up to about 20kph.

Side note - have seen some reviews about "not being designed to be repaired". Ours got caught by a freak gust of wind, and snapped one of the brackets that attached the umbrella post to the vertical post. Contacted Bunnings spares, and within a week I had the replacement part (at my cost) in my hands and the umbrella repaired.

Was actually genuinely surprised as so much stuff seems to be made to be thrown out these days rather than repaired - even more so given the price point of this umbrella compared to more expensive alternatives. Didnt really want to contribute to the waste issue by dumping an umbrella that only had one broken part - being able to get spare parts allowed me to do this. Well done Bunnings!

Not designed to be repaired and no support – My Mimosa Koko cantilevered sun umbrella is seemingly good quality, but unavoidably at some point the cord, which is the weakest component, will break as a result of a gust of wind (should that happen?), and when that happens neither Bunnings nor Mimosa Outdoors (owned by Gale Pacific) provide any support: neither does Gale Pacific do the… Read more

maintenance themselves, nor can they refer you to companies that do, and if you try to do it yourself, well, good luck because the casing of the crank was clearly not designed to ever be opened again after manufacture. And Gale Pacific couldn't even provide instructions on how to do it...

Seemingly, the company expects the customer to throw away a perfectly good umbrella just because the cord broke, which is sad. What about the right to repair????

Very unstable in small wind – Bought one of these recently from Bunnings. Comes with a base that you fill with water which is good as many retailers sell base separately. Easy to set up and use and comes with a very handy foot operated swivel mechanism. Overall quality is typically very average and has a few flimsy fittings which wont last long. The supplied wire cable as a… Read more

"pull along" to drag the brella around is rubbish but you don't really need it if it comes apart. The biggest issue I find with these types and styles of umbrellas is they dont take much wind to become dangerous and unstable. A small sudden gust of wind is all it takes and it will topple and becomes dangerous. We bought one and placed it on our patio against the house on the first day. It claims to be rated to 28 km wind but I doubt this is accurate. It was just a little breezy and it toppled over even with the base fully filled . Immediately dismantled and reboxed and took it back the same day for the reason that it wasn't suitable or safe for our location. Bunnings were fantastic about it. My assessment is that these big stand alone brellas are only safe in very wind protected areas. You really don't appreciate the power of a small breeze until you have these umbrellas set up. The bigger the umbrella the easier it is to topple. Other than that, its not a bad brella.

Big and stable – This is a 3.5m Umbrella with a large water tank base on wheels. Little confused at previous reviews that maybe smaller lighter and cheaper versions. Design of this version is good to enable, ease to get it up and adjust swivel mech works well and reasonably stable in light winds. Build quality is pretty good with no issues in setup. Pros Large and… Read more

Stable good design easy to deploy and adjust

Cons. Protective bag/cover awkward to get on and lifting stick should be sewn in

Safety issue and poor quality for what you pay – So l was just going to buy a $70 dollar umbrella for Xmas day but l though why not buy the top of the range one to last. Well l have only had it 5 weeks and overnight it fell apart. It was not wound out! What if one of my children were sitting at the seat below when it fell? Head injury or worse… Show details

Umbrella is Dangerous – I purchased 2 of these umbrellas thinking it was a solution for shade around my pool. Because it was able to be moved around as the sun moved across the pool area. Day 2, I unfolded 1 of the umbrellas as my granddaughter (13 years old) was swimming but a small puff of wind tipped the umbrella into the pool and luckily I was there to stop it from… Read more

hitting her on the head. It took me 30 minutes to try and pull it back up out of the pool. I thought about it and it could have knocked her out as she was standing right under it at the time. I then emailed Mimosa customer service on December 14, stating how dangerous it was but to this day they have never responded. In the meantime, another gust of wind completely tipped it over and snapped the umbrella, I have since taken both umbrellas back to where I purchased them. When you purchase them at a price of $629 each you expect them to be sturdy enough and not tip over with a small puff of wind. I'm really disappointed with firstly Mimosa not replying to my email and secondly how easily they tip over and break.

Umbrella Cover – I purchased this Mimosa Product on the 07/10/2019. I have now just ordered the second replacement cover. The covers are made of poor material for Australian QLD conditions. The top part rubs on the structure and wears through. It should be reinforced. They also fade very quickly and the material deteriorates. The last one cost over $50. At this… Read more

rate i will be paying more for replacement covers then the whole system itself. The umbrella itself has been good. No issues. My scores below are based on the whole product.

Great for first couple of months – Deteriorated quickly faded ++++ even with cover applied after use. Broke after 9 months and now unable to use. Be better off buying a cheaper one each year and replacing it every year. Not worth the money  Show details

Buy elsewhere – Umbrella is ok so far but will probably deteriorate. The weather cover which is heavily faded (after 9 months) has now ripped apart when trying to put it back on. Def regret purchase. Show details

Great for the pool – Looked for weeks for a cantilever umbrella and found this one to be the best. The selling point for me was that it came with a base of 82mm x 82mm as oppose to the tile bases which are 1m x 1m. This base wS the perfect size for the area of the pool we wanted to put it. The quality of it is sturdy and it’s movement is great. Not only can you rotate it but it also tilts so it provides shade with the sun going down.
