It's really bad – It does not cool, you can't add ice, it's terrible and is not worth $89...its blowing hot air. It heavy. Takes alot if water but doesn't appear to use it. Even with the cool option selected. I just realised why it wasn't cooling. The crappy piece on towel was not connected or spinning. It was out on one side. Stupid manufacturing error. Bad product Show details

Minimal cooling effect… but better than nothing – I ran this next to an ordinary $15 fan… the temperature was maybe 1 degree cooler. Look, it’s cheap and it kinda works… but don’t buy expect miracles. In heat waves, I’ll take any cooling even if it’s 1 degree more than a regular fan. It is easy to use and seems durable. I have been using it all day with no problems. Show details

Waste of money – I know this is a relatively cheap evaporative cooler, but the mesh at the back of the cooler does not turn through the water bath in the base of the unit, therefore does not get wet & that makes the cooler absolutely useless...our pedestal fans are way cooler, very disappointed. Show details

Mistral 12 litre Evaporative Cooler – Purchased one of these coolers from Bunnings and found it to be a total waste of time and money. It does no more than would be achieved with an ordinary fan despite putting ice in the water as per instructions. I used a thermometer to check the room temperature and the air temperature coming from the cooler for 15 minutes. There was no noticeable… Read more

difference, despite following all the instructions. The relative humidity at the time was very low, which is supposed to be the ideal situation for this type of cooler.

I put it back in the box and returned it to Bunnings. Save your money and buy a bag of ice.... at least you can make a cold drink to cool down.

Disappointing – Unfortunately we have not been able to differentiate any difference in the air temperature being emitted from this fan whether it is set to "Cool" or not. We purchased this from Bunnings with the hope that it would provide some relief from the hot dry summer expected in Canberra this year but alas, even with ice in the water tray, it merely… Read more

provides some air movement. With the unit set in front of an open window and an opposite door open as directed, it actually blows WARM air into the room - it does not seem to "cool" at all, not even a little! I placed the external part of an internal/external thermometer in front of it to see how much cooling it actually did and the air being emitted from the unit whilst set to "cool" and with ice in the water tray, was 1 degree cooler than the ambient room temperature. Placing the same thermometer in front of a pedestal fan set on low speed produced a similar result... I remember having a portable evaporative cooler in the early 1990's in Alice Springs and not being able to sit in front of it for too long as it was quite cold but this is definitely not the case with this one... very disappointed with this product.

Great Fan, Good Cooler – Bought this item today at Bunnings as Sydney is having a 40 degree day and A/c is not a short tern solution. I had real concerns that although the price is relatively modest ($89.00), this is still too much to pay for a disappointment. But with my sweaty back against the wall, off I went to Bunnings and forked out some hard earned. To ensure my… Read more

disappointment was not due to failure on my part I read through the set-up instructions (simple enough) and turned on the unit after about 10 minutes (including careful reading time). Low and behold we immediately experienced a lovely breeze from the unit. As a fan I'd rate this unit highly, it has 3 variable speed settings, and some sexy settings for nature and such. The fan can be set to "swing" mode which causes the rear louvre set to rotate through about 30 degrees. This operation is very quiet unlike some tower fans I've experienced which can groan as they rotate. The fan itself is very quiet with the only perceptible noise being from the fairly large volume of air it has passing through it. The front louvres can be manually adjusted to direct the height of the breeze. Finally, after again following the instructions to fill the water containment (NB: the filling guage can be hard to see and may require a torch to ensure correct filling level) with cooled water, and adding ice as suggested, I worked up the courage to activate the "cool" setting. OMG, it's actually blowing cool (not cold) air. On a 40 degree day this is impressive and welcome. We left it on this way, swinging silently with the fan on low (quite ample) and cooled air being pushed through our living room. Eventually, as typically happens on hot Sydney days, the southerly blew in and the air from the unit was starting to become a little chilly, so I turned off the cooling and we've been enjoying the fan all evening. NOT A DISAPPOINTMENT, I'm actually very impressed with this unit and it's ability to create a comfortable living space on a hot day. Again, this is not air conditioning and only modestly cools the air, but I'm not a huge fan of A/C anyway. I'm even less of a fan of sitting watching the telly and sweating, but now I don't have to. Well done Mistral and Bunnings!
